Title: Sky Card
Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, September 7, 2009, 17:00:24
We have a fella that sorts our sky out and we've not had our new card yet. We now keep getting this message about inserting our new card every TWO Minutes and its impossible to watch TV.

Anyone know how I can get around this temporarily whilst I chase up this guy?

Is it a dodgy box, or is it legit?

Sorry to crash the thread but has anyone heard of these Dreamboxes and the fix to use another card's encryption over the Tinterweb?

Its a proper box. This fella over here sets up all the addresses to the UK (our local news is Channel Islands) and sorts out the payments etc. Box was brought over from the UK.

Any ideas?

It's dodgy then, you can't have Sky abroad as it's technically illegal.

Is it set up to a friend/relatives address in the UK or does the guy sort it out for you?

Basically your new viewing card will have been sent to the UK address.

I've heard of a couple of legit users that have the same problem.
e.g.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1019486

You'll have to get your man to chase up the new card with Sky. No other way to stop the messages.

We haven't had our new card yet, but they haven't pushed the "annoy the fcuk out the user button for us either".

We have a card for 2 of the three boxes in the house and luckily ours hasnt came up with the annoying message yet, the other 2 cards came 2 months ago though.

Sky are not known for their customer service!

The guy sorts it all out. I guess he has an address he uses to register all of the accounts. Thought it was a bit hooky. I'll just have to wait for him to get back to us. He's not the most reliable!

Cheers for all the responses. Have to grin and bear it!

If you have a new box installed this year, I don't think you need a new card. I got cards for all old boxes apart from the one installed in January.

I think my Dad's best mate has something similar. He has some sort of card which he updates online so he gets Italian Satellite. I know he also gets all the UK Sky Sports as well. Costs him about £250 a year I think he said. It's a fucking steal compared to Sky. I know you can buy Albanian and Italian Satellite packages on eBay for about £250 a year, plus £200 for the box or something.

I'll fuck Sky off soon enough and join him when i bother to find out more about his TV package thing.

talking of sky, it would appear that I have been randomly given sky sports news for some reason....about 6 weeks after I took out sky sports again for the new footy season....anyone else?

However, has anyone actually got the new sky+hd epg yet?

yep.

i forced downloaded it and to be honest it's very good but the HD picture quality has gone to pot. very noisy picture wise which needs sorting out with another update.

i think it's the way it's been decoded and sent down the signal which has quased it.

do a forced update Tans.

Turn off SKY at the wall.
Push and hold the backup button on the box
keep button pressed and turn back on sky box
Keep pressed until all lights at front show up.
take finger off button.
message on screen should show update in progress.

wait 10 mins and it should be updated

Samsung

Its on its way to you Samsung owners soon:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitaltv/a175826/samsung-sky-hd-boxes-to-get-epg-update.html

Forced update only works if it is available "on the stream", which is usually a bit after the new EPG download happens. So don't be surprised if it doesn't work!

Only thing I don't like too much about the new EPG is it is hard to read on my bedroom portable. Yes I know, not likely to affect that many people but even so, grrr.

edit:

Oh, OK some are getting it now, some aren't:

Excuse my ignorance but how can I add ITV HD?

Title: Re: Sky Card
Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 15:48:08
It only works if you have the new HD EPG.

Go to settings and manually add a new channel:

11.427
H
2/3
27500

It appears as channel 10510 and you'll have to store it in "Other channels".
