I've never had a problem with royal mail ton be honest, they generally deliver everything very quickly and it's cheap, maybe I've just got a good postman. City link on the other hand are always completely useless.

Well, I'm sure them not doing any fucking work and not delivering any fucking post will help Royal Mails predicament.

In the current climate with millions of people out of work and these guys striking over job cuts and pay doesn't make much sense. Royal Mail should just sack the fucking lot of them and re employ from the millions of unemployed who would happily post letters or sort mail for £20K+ a year.

I should imagine there is more to it than that, but it still annoys me that they keep striking.
They don't complain when they get their fucking bonuses.

do you think people want to strike and lose money?
it's not as black and white as some seem to think it is.management are using the current financial climate as a tool to enforce changes that are not for the good of anyone.
the service is poorer than it's ever been, yet still makes money.posties want things to be better and they were.the government have dipped into the profit pots over the years and have spent alll the pension funds.this was when the business was making massive profits

I think this is part of the reason it riles me too. It makes it seem like they want to have their cake and eat it.

Oh what so lets have all the big companies preying on peoples desperation for jobs to make sure they keep wages low?

I'm sure you'd love that at your work.

These guys are trying to improve their working life and standard of living for them and their families. And they get slagged off for this cos its a slight inconvenience for us?

I think it's a shame there is this undercurrent of feeling in this country against people striking and acting together to try and get a better deal for themselves.

Maybe the way I worded it was a tad harsh, but I think there needs to be some perspective.

In the company I work in, we've laid off 3,000 people worldwide, we have been told there is no payrise this year or next year, all training has been put on hold, we are losing money, we are taking extra days holidays unpaid and i'll just be happy if I still have my job at the end of the year

If they really think striking will improve things for them they are in cloud cuckoo land. What it will do is push even more businesses to their competitors and make everyone a little less confident in relying on the Royal Mail and for them to use alternate forms of communication instead.

No amount of action (strikes or management changes) will remedy the pension fund, which is what it's all about really.

I'm fairly left wing, but my dealings with Unions have allowed to form the opinion they are cunts.  They are ruined by the usual problem with left wing ideals, self bloody interest and greed of individuals.  They are also a bit lost since Labour and the EU implemented most of the legislation they spent so long demanding.

I would have sympathy for them if I felt they were all putting in 100% to turn the company around.  Lets not beat about the bush here, if it wasn't a sort of Nationalised company, it would have sold off huger swathes of it's business by now.  It's a limping lump of all that is wrong with Nationalised industries and even if fully privatised it would take years to sort out (see BT, Gas, Water etc).  It's failed to see the trends in it's market and has absolutely no chance of reacting to them now with a workforce that seemingly wants it to be how it was in the good old days.

Oh, and arriba, I'd wager some (not many granted) do in fact actually enjoy a good strike.  There are too many "activists" in Unions that actually do very little "work" so it's become a profession in it's own right.  Just check out the Unite Union if you think I am just being argumentative.

You don't work for a period of time in order to put pressure on the management in an attempt to get them to give you better pay/working conditions.

I may have seen a striking Royal Mail worker in Swindon this morning.  Parked in a disabled bay in Tesco, smoking in his van (is that allowed) and reading not one, but two papers!  Sun and Mirror.  I was waiting for my dragon to trundle out with the week's shopping and he was there for about 45 minutes.  So are Royal Mail now employing disabled drivers who smoke and pay them to be in Tesco's car park on a Saturday morning and all this in a Royal Mail transit. :-[

no posties in swindon are striking, its only about 5% of the workforce per day that are out, mainly in london, but also some outer regions.

as for the smoking in vans, did you note the reg? not allowed, and its fucking rank, i hate driving in the vans after someones been smoking, but unless the driver is seen in the van and reported, they just say they were smoking outside the van.

I think its more often that not they get some benefit. Not necessarily what they're asking for. It's a negotiation isn't it?

This is IMO the best and most undeniably awesome strike of recent times...
