Title: Triple Signings Next Week
Post by: LJ9 on Sunday, July 5, 2009, 09:37:21
Hi, I'm new to this Town forum so give us a chance!!

Saw this on www.football-rumours.com

I know it's not the most legitimate website but it says

"Swindon Town are to complete the triple signings of Jonathan Douglas, Alan O' Brien and Danny Webber next week"

Haven't heard anything of Danny Webber signing at all.

Anybody want to shed some light on this??

There's some stuff about Webber on that page. Seems like someone has read the rumours thread and put 2+2 together, really.

If we signed 1 out of those 3 players I would be happy. 2, ecstatic. 3, well that's not going to happen really is it!!

Agreed.

I think the only one we MAY sign is O'Brien, but if by any possibilty we got 2 or 3 I would be very happy.

Yep, think we have a good chance of signing O'Brien, things are looking positive for him, but then again things looked quite positive with Robinson as well so not getting my hopes up too much!!

Yeah, learn our lesson with Theo, and to be honest there were a lot of good players linked when MM was in charge too that never materialized, so lets just wait and see, with fingers crossed.

Cheers LJ9 i've not seen that site before,Webber is an interesting one,it says he struggled with injury last season yet he made 41 appearances according to wiki.

If he's not to injury prone i reckon he would decent job in this league for us.

Although I am quite aware of its reputation, I've never actually ever vitisted this website - I might do in a minute :)

The site is funny, just a load of people who play a bit too much Footy Manager posting rubbish!

Having said that obviously Wilson has already mentioned two of these three. Webber is an interesting one, would think he could do a very good job at this level, was released by Sheff U at the end of the season so would fit into the category of player Wilson wants, ie championship experience and i wouldn't be suprised if they are looking at paying some serious wages to some of these players instead of spanking the cash we get from Cox on transfer fees.

Is is a really funny website with people saying they "have great contacts" at these Premier clubs through the kit manager's dog etc but going on there regularly (for a laugh I might add!!), I've never seen any Swindon murmurings so I thought I'd flag it up.

Webber was always somebody that always seemed to of stood out in games I've seen him play in and I think his signing would be a massive boost.

Just like this one then.

Regardless of whether the rumour is true or not, I feel that Webber would be a very good signing for us.

It is, however, my opinion that he is far more likely to stay up north, which is where he is from.

I'm glad Greer (Scottish based in the North) and Lucas (Northern) or possibly O'Brien (Irish living in Scotland) didn't have that mentality - we'd be in big trouble otherwise!

And besides, we have too many northerners for my liking.

What is wrong with signing a few cheeky cockneys?

Not sure about a triple signing, but a little birdie tells me we're hoping to get O'Brien plus A.n.other signed today.

i started the leon knight rumour a couple of years ago on that site, one of my proudest "im a twat" moments which was surpassed last year by recieving a phone call at stanstead just as i was boarding a flight telling me sheena easton had been placed on the betting odds for our next manager.

Announcement will be between 5 and 6pm I can sensationally reveal.

I have no sauce.

The way I understand it is that any announcement may be tactically timed to coincide with Cox signing for West Brom (which I believe was supposed to happen today), as if to soften the blow slightly.

If that's the case, they shouldn't wait, we all know he's off, and we may get the bonus that Romain et al  have a coronary.

I await some breaking news on the Adver site exclusively revealing that there is speculation that there may possibly be an announcement today!

Soften the blow? We've been pretty sure he was off before last season ended! I can cope with the blow.

For the Wilson "connection"

Wilson dropped him (not even on the bench) for Bristol City's Play-Off Final against that dastardly Brighton lot - so I doubt that they are buddies.
