It's good live. Not sure about "fooking ace" but definitely a good evening's entertainment! Certainly better than American 'Football'

On the box, it's not so good.

I saw the Boston Red Sox play (at Fenway Park) and it was pretty good, well worth going to a game if you're in the USA. Totally different atmosphere to a football match in the UK, really laid back and more like a cricket match.

I love the way they have people walking up and down the aisles selling peanuts and drinks and stuff. They throw the peanuts at you then you pass the money to the person sat next to you who passes it along. Could you see that ever happening over here? Some fucker would nick it.

Nowhere near as good when you're watching on TV.

Its quite interesting when you get into it, know the strengths and weaknesses of the batter and pitcher and can pick the pitches. Used to prefer to watch it at home for that part of the game.

However, always oved to go to Coors Field with the family to watch a game. My favourite thing though was going to see the Rockies at Houston when we were on holiday touring Texas. We were the only people in the crowd cheering when the Rockies went 1-0 up in the 1st Innings. Different matter when the Astros went on to win 12-1!!!

Enjoyed watching the World Series on TV when we were in the States, as it involved copious alcohol consumption. Haven't watched a game since we've been back, but may look out for a Reds game now.

Baseball is pants. I only really like Ice Hockey of all the American stuff (although it's actually Canadian).

I do not enjoy baseball on the tv, it bores me. Never been to a game myself tho, so I can't really say. I got ESPN for the ice hockey tho, now that's finished i'm not often watching it!

How often do they show games on there mate? ESPN might be getting Premier League and UFC as well soon.

They show shit loads of live (or as live) games across the various sports, over 800 a year in total. Though their football and basketball games are all college level, though that is a pretty high standard.

I reckon ESPN will mop up all the other rights Setanta had, maybe adding some more, then re-launch with three (or four) channels sold as a single bundle - the same as Setanta and Sky. Can't see there being any point to them keeping all their channels separate.

I watched the Yankees last August and it was a cracking night out (although our foul mouthed attempts at getting some chants going were scorned).  It's probably because you get several hours of drinking and people bring the beer to your seat.

Call me old fashioned, but if I want to drink I go to the pub :)

Very well made point.  I haven't really watched any baseball - although it seems to me just a bit like rounders and therefore not really for grown-ups. 

The one that gets me is Basketball.  I seriously cannot stand this ridiculous sport.

There's no claiming needed, over half of the 30 players drafted in the first round this year were canadian, 2nd highest was swedish.

Interestingly, a british-born italian-trained player was drafted this year too. A shame he's registered as Italian!

I actually did know the Knicks were the basketball team as my mate recently went to see them. It was a 'mistake' done on purpose, honest!

I've been to see Ice Hockey in the NHL and that is class, if you can tolerate people walking in front of you every five minutes to get hot dogs etc.

I noticed on ESPN last night the draft pick for NHL was shown live. Kind of like an auction it was. I didn't watch for long.

I wonder if a British player will ever make the NHL?

A few have, but not in the recent past. There's a couple possibly coming up for the draft in 2 or 3 years onwards I seem to remember.

It's class having ESPN. Watched the NHL draft on Friday night and they've had a few 'classic' games on, quality!

And rich, hockey isn't popular enough here to ever produce a talent capable of playing in the NHL. The only hope is that a British kid goes to Canada at a really young age and gets in one of the many leagues Ontario has. The Leafs first round pick this year was of Lebanese descent, which was a first.
