Just updated mine to the 3.0 version and I'm pretty impressed!  The picture messaging is pretty good and simple and being able to forward texts is ace!

Anyone done this also and can recommend any good new features?

The activation server is down now. What kind of no-mark company doesn't have servers to match demand.

This is why I'm glad I don't have anything Apple, they never release a product which is good from day one.  Its only version 2.0 / 3.0 where they finally get it right!  But don't worry, its got a shiny apple logo on it so plenty of people will buy it regardless.

Be aware if you have a pin number remove it first otherwise the update won't work

It does work, just unlock the sim with the PIN and it carries on as normal.

The improvements to photos look good.

If you've got Mobile Me the "find my iPhone" for when you lose your phone is good. It will track it down pretty accurately, send a message to it, sound an alert on it (useful when its on silent and its nearby) and will also perform a remote wipe of all data on it.

Otherwise; copy & paste, landscape everywhere, spotlight search (scroll left from main app page) and autofill.

I know some people are getting excited about MMS and forwarding SMS but it doesn't do much for me.

Trying to decide if I need to get the 3GS when I'm allowed to upgrade in a few months. On the one hand I'm not sure I need the features but on the other hand it would be rude not to.

I've seen some comparisons between pictures taken with the 3G and 3GS and they are a lot better on the 3GS. As far as I'm aware the 3.0 upgrade doesn't do anything for picture quality on the 3G, ie it is still shit, really shit.

Yes, unless its on silent in which case you'd be screwed before now. The sound alert works no matter what.

It's actually a good idea, shame it costs money to subscribe though.

Unless you were a subscriber a year ago when they totally fucked everything up by launching Mobile Me alongside the iPhone 3G and it all went pete tong - I think I ended up with the best part of a years subscription for free.

They do need to reduce the price a fair bit though, or include it with the iPhone for free.

If you've got a Mac, you need to upgrade to 10.5.7 for some of the new features as well.

Sending voice memo's doesnt work... neither does picture messaging, and copy/paste of text from websites is shit. Can't say i'm too impressed!
