Title: Baby Bird
Post by: yeo on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, 20:46:48
Not the band (theres a band right?)

This morning at 5am I found a baby bird in my garden, theres a nest next door but I dont know how it found its way over the fence ,I donned some Oven Gloves and a Sandwich Box and put it back its nest. All day today its Mum has being going mental and making a right row,so much so that ive not been able to go outside.

Went out for a fag tonight and found it again  >:(

Tupperwared it up and stuck it back in its nest(no oven gloves this time I actually touched it...yuck)

Its pretty grown up but cant fly,its wings are to small.I tried feeding it some mince but it wasnt interested.Do you think its parents might be rejecting it because I touched it?

I think I heard the rejection if you touch them thing is a bit of a myth. Might be wrong though.

We've taken several to a wildlife sanctuary locally recently, they do a great job if you have one nearby, as doubt it will survive without help now.

Feed it (maybe not mince) Care for it, raise it as one of your own and then cook it for one of your self acclaimed famous roast dinners.

But its parents are seriously plucky.

If I find it again im going to raise it as my child.

Incidently my Devil Dog Staffie found it for me both times by sitting there looking at it and whining  8)

Is that a young starling YB? We had a similar experience a few years ago. Sometimes they leave the nest too soon or are encouraged out. We were advised to leave it to the parent birds to look after, but there was a cat lurking so we had to rescue it. We couldn't find the nest so left it outside and kept an eye on it, unfortunately the parent birds disappeared so we took it to a wildlife rescue place.

What's with the garden sacks?

We moved a bag of garden rubbish the other week and out fell a hedgehog with 5 babies, only about a week old, as we had disturbed the nest (and there are quite a few cats in our area) we phoned the vet's who put us on to an animal sanctury who told us what to do - ensure the mother does not clear off was a good start so we had to retreive the mother who had gone walkies to next door's garden put them all in a box together and seal it and we then took it to the animal sanctury to look after them.

Apparently once disturbed hedgehog's can abandon the babies or they eat them.

I see a potential flaw in your actions...............

Hahaha, tried feeding it some mince, ace!

I got home from work yesterday, found a load of feathers all over the house, loads of stuff knocked over, etc.
I went into the garden and saw a dead blackbird on the lawn, but fuck knows what happened inside, I can only guess that one of our cats managed to get it in through the catflap somehow, chase it around the fucking house then drag it back out of the catflap and leave it on the lawn?!

We they was still alive when we got them to the Sanctury so hopefully the mother will think better of it
