Where Wolverhampton gets the name the black country from?

Wolvehampton aren't always included in it. It's to do with the coal being there

Coal seams and smoke from industry in the olden days.

It's called that so that at some point the Daily Mail can invent a news story about the PC Brigade trying to change its name to Rainbow Country.
