Title: A question. Post by: BANGKOK RED on Sunday, May 31, 2009, 14:18:54 Assuming you all know the four candles sketch by the two Ronnies, can somebody answer this...
At the end Ronnie Barker asks the shop assistant for something else. The assistant then goes to a draw, and a big laugh goes up from the audience when they see that the draw has a sign on it saying "Bill Hooks". I don't get it. I had a discussion with friends about this last night and they don't get it either even after re-watching it on youtube. So what's the joke? Title: Re: A question. Post by: kaufman on Sunday, May 31, 2009, 14:21:51 At this point the shopkeeper, having had enough, snatches the shopping list the customer has been holding to complete the order without any confusions. However, he then seems to take offence at something written on the list. He decides he cannot tolerate the customer any longer and calls his assistant from the back to complete the order. The assistant reveals that the request was for billhooks. The audience later infers that the shopkeeper misread it as bollocks or Pillocks.
hope that helps Title: Re: A question. Post by: BANGKOK RED on Sunday, May 31, 2009, 14:27:40 Ah, cheers.
Bit of an anti climax though. Title: Re: A question. Post by: Crozzer on Sunday, May 31, 2009, 20:33:52 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu9MptWyCB8 Title: Re: A question. Post by: leefer on Sunday, May 31, 2009, 20:36:42 The Bill Hooks line was meant to be seen as Billhooks as like one word....as Bangkok says it was a big anti climax to a great sketch as alot of people just saw it as Bill Hooks and didnt really get the pun.
