Post by: DMR on Thursday, May 26, 2005, 08:02:21
Is Englands best centreback. Without a shadow of a doubt.

John Terry, Sol Campbell & Rio Ferdinand by far.

Hes not, He's still very good though. we seem to be blessed with 5 or 6 proper quality centre backs right now, assuming that Woodgate actually plays again.

he was brilliant, 1st half the defense was a shambles, but in the 2nd him and hyypia did a good job.

Carragher was by far and away the best player on the pitch last night
But not better than Campbell and Terry in my hmble opinion.

Definitely deserves to be in the England squad atleast though.

Dave, can you stop posting everything twice, one forum is enough ta.

If you must, at least change the words around a bit when you post on the other forum.

No he isn't. Terry is a lot better, Carragher is good though and he's had some great games but he hasn't been as inspirational as John Terry this year.

Yes Rich. Rio Ferdinand is shit. which is why he's been transferred for fees of approximatley £48m in the last 5 years.  :disapprove:

Along with Campbell he formed one of the best defensive partnerships at the last world cup.

Richard.

As per ususal, your opinion is badly thought out, overly simplistic and quite frankly total shite

Sol Campell is being ranked on previous form of 'his good days'. Englands two best centre backs are Carragher and Terry. Without a doubt. Both player of the season for their teams and both improved immensely.

good point, and with a lack of a left-sided midfielder (downing doesn't count - yet) it makes you wonder why england dont play 3-5-2?

----------- terry - ferdinand - carragher/campbell -----------
neville ------------------------------------------------------- cole
--------------- beckham - gerrard - lampard ------------------
------------------------- rooney - owen -------------------------

sven is a cock face

I've often said that myself, there is the argument that 3-5-2 doesn't work at international level, but Brazil won every game they played in 2002 World Cup using that system, so that doesn't stand up.

Beckham, Gerard and Lampard would be a very strong, tight central midfield.  Cole is one of the most natural wing backs in the world, so it would suit him very well, Neville always used to look good when he overlapped down the right circa 1996, so would probably look decent enough.

There wouldn't be a stronger back three in the world (given that we also have King waiting to come in whenever he is needed), and the Rooney/Owen partnership would benefit from three central midfielders more than just your regular two.

That's my opinion anyway.

The only argument against it would be that Cole and Neville would be over exposed, but I agree that it would be worth a try

I thought Joe Cole looked good on the left.

He did indeed, and I think that the system we have used in recent games will probably be the one that we will use in the WC - assuming we qualify of course.

The best thing about Carragher though is his attitude, he'd die for the cause......Terry possibly....Campbell and Rio.....no chance....

Spot on, Rio's nowhere near those two based on current form.
