Post by: Power to people on Monday, May 18, 2009, 12:36:10
Anyone been to the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham ?

Going Weds night wondered what it is like there, We also want to get something to eat before hand, are there reasonable priced resterants in easy walking distance or only the takeaway food bars inside ?

Went there many years ago. Right in Birmingham city centre so allow for traffic. Plenty of parking available.

Should easily be able to find a decent restaurant nearby. axs might be a good person to speak to, he lived in Brum for a few years I think.

Not been to the NIA itself, but have stayed in a hotel nearby. There's loads of bars and restaurants down next to the canal, only a few hundred metres walk. I expect these will be quite busy if there is an event on though.

Yup, parking is fine but it is slow to get out of the multi stories afterwards. As said, the traffic getting there can be a git so allow plenty of time. Also note that the  multi story is pay and display so make sure you have change!

Last time I went we stopped at a (slightly) out of town Franky and Bennys place for food. OK not great, but it was quiet and easy.

Can't remember what is inside the NIA, other than bars.  Note: there is a bar downstairs if you are standing.

Enjoy Girls Aloud.

loads of parking and traffic shouldn't be a problem. can't imagine many being there for GA.

As for food or drinks you're right next to Brindly Place and Broad Street.
If you get there early enough head towards broad street where there are a whole host of pubs which serve food including a cheap Lloyds Bar.

I've been involved in organising a few events at the NIA a few years ago. Essentially it's right in the centre so all facilities are available.  If you like a curry, you will be in luck

What he said - for hassle free drinks and grub there's a wealth of choices.
