Title: We haven't had a Parkin rumour for a while...
Post by: DMR on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, 21:18:53

They need a goalscorer....

In my humble opinion Parkin to Sheff Utd would be a cracking move for the lad.

A side notoriously bad at missing the plenty of chances the likes of his best mate Harley carve out- he's what they need. Add to that plenty of dosh, a big stadium, the promise of being there or thereabouts in the promotion race season after season and a manager whose a massive fan.

If anywhere, Utd would be my fabourites to sign SSP.

Warnock's made it perfectly clear he's a fan of Parkin and they've been linked with him for a long time, but I'm sure I read somewhere a while ago that Warnock decided he wasn't quite good enough(?!) for that level and chose not to persue him further.

It'd be a good move for him anyway.

I remember the night of our fucking joke performance vs Notts County

They were showing his goals pre-match and Warnock openly admitted that he'd be looking to get Parkin on board if the time was right for all concerned

Here's a Parkin prediction: I predict he will start the season still in a STFC shirt.

That really wouldn't surprise me, maybe because I've expected him to leave during two pre-seasons now and he's still here.

I think he'll see out the next year of his contract  and then make himself a few quid with his new contract elsewhere  and fair play to him.I think Swindon have priced him out of a move.

Latest club linked to SSP is now Swindon. God that PR machine is in overdrive before the early bird ST discount expires isn't it!

Quote

The Swindon Town Board have spoken of their desire to secure the services of striker Sam Parkin beyond the end of the forthcoming season.

Swindon Town's Board have quashed all speculation linking the striker with a move away from Wiltshire, with just one offer being received for the player to date which was refused.

While the club await responses from various out of contract players who have been made offers, Parkin is one player who will not be heading for the exit door.

"Sam has been an integral part of our club for three seasons now, scoring over seventy goals in the process. Why would we let him go?" said Director Sandy Gray.

"The Board are expecting to enter negotiations with his representatives to keep him at Swindon Town beyond the end of next season, when his current deal expires.

"We are looking to strengthen the side ahead of the new campaign and with the support of the fans, we are very much looking forward to what's in store for 2005/6," concluded Gray.

yeh i was just about to post that.

i don't know why there not selling him? well its obvious cause hes a great player, but surely the club need the money if they have to offer pay cuts and only 1 year deals?

Title: We haven't had a Parkin rumour for a while...
Post by: Batch on Thursday, May 26, 2005, 09:56:18
Whose to say he won't be sold.

It says they are trying to renegotiate an extension to the contract - i.e. so he won't go for free next summer IF he does stay.

He doesn't have to sign that meaning we are more likely to sell because we wouldn't get anything next year. Though it may be deferred until the Jan transfer window in which case his value may go down (less contract left).

He could even sign it then put in a transfer request anyway if a big club come a knocking.

I don't like knocking the board for the hell of it, but the PR seems to be being handled by a school kid doing a summer job:

1. Smith is not offered a 2 year contract. Club then say he is. Dad comes back and says it is conditional.
2. "We are looking to strengthen the side ahead of the new campaign ", presumably that is why our current squad is breaking up then. It may be necessary but to dress it up as strengthening is an insult.
3. Look look - we are trying to keep Parkin. Look.  By the way the season ticket early bird offer expires Monday....
4. The board give the players until mid-June to say nay or yeay to the contracts effectively stopping King from doing quick deals to sure up the squad.

To be fair, if Parkin was in huge demand the club would have had more than one bid by now. There's clearly something putting clubs off signing him and I think it's his lack of pace.

Or that the board will sell him at Christmas if he doesn't sign a contract at some dirt cheap price?

Or that wait twelve months and they could potentially have him for nothing ...?

Very few deals are being done at this time of year....most players, managers etc being on holiday....of course there is talk in the background.

Also if you take up a contract now you have to play a player for not doing anything so, no  concrete offers for SSP is to be expected.

I believe contracts expire in June, so its even possible that SSP may return for pre season training before completing his move.

interesting. the offer from Watford was 2 players plus 500,000. The 2 players though are Paul Mayo (ex brighton left back yes?) and some youngster who is a defender.

swindon seem to be holding out, but that 500,000 i think included a 250,000 bonus if Watford got to the premiership and it was going to be paid in installments so it wasn't a great deal really!

Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Saturday, May 28, 2005, 10:07:50
"That would've been worth more than 500k" - only if Watford made the premiership which is very unlikely, that'd be like the rooney deal, called 27 million when in reality man united are unlikely to pay much more than 20 million.

Not a great deal for us, it's good we're turning down offers over the £300k that was being muted as the new release fee though.

Crewe manager eyeing strike swoop
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/crewe_alexandra/4589369.stm

Crewe are hoping to snap up two new strikers - but manager Dario Gradi is keeping their identities secret.

Gradi said: "I've spoken to a striker and we are likely to have a decision on that next week. He wants time because he has a couple of other options.

"I have asked about another striker in the lower leagues. The manager doesn't want to sell him but may have to.

"We will continue to look until we find that big striker. They are not easy to come by," he told the club's website.

Such a deal would be good to avoid paying Chelsea so much of the sell on, but there's no way we'll be able to meet the wage demands of this type of player.....

I'll be very surprised if we sign anyone who we've heard of.....I'm sure our squad wil be made up of prem and champ rejects, like when Howard, Nicho, Smith  and Sean O signed.

Maybe one experienced player in the midfield

Well i heard a rumour we are offering parkin a new deal to stay with us, giving him 3 times the amount he is already on, which makes it 36k a week, but not heard for how long.... and they say we are short of money??  :?

3 times = 36k????? More like 36 times = 36k! Thanks tho, the belly laugh from this has really cheered me up!

I'll be very surprised if we sign anyone who we've heard of.....I'm sure our squad wil be made up of prem and champ rejects, like when Howard, Nicho, Smith  and Sean O signed.

I think you're right Reg. And to be fair, they turned out to be pretty good signings, even if AK did completely piss at least two of them off. I'm still trying to keep my "glass half full" hat on for next season (having just lashed out 360 quid for a season ticket).

I'm of a similar frame of mind, paul. Kingy's done well bringing in totally unheard of youngsters and I think he'll do it again this season.

Why the hell would SWINDON pay anybody 12k?  :soapy tit wank:

I think that the mentioned deal would be unlikely because of the wage demands of Beckett for a start.

I wouldn't mind a summer of unheard-of players, especialy if they are like Ifil, Seano, Nicho, Howard, Evans and Parkin!

This may be a tad naive of me, but the figures of FM2005 have always been fairly accurate when I have drawn comparisons to contract figures written in the media.  Parkin must be on around 1.5K a week but I am concerned about his minimum fee release clause and there seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding this.

I would love it if Parkin stays, sod next summer and losing him on a free, worry about that in January.  To keep Parkin would signal the club's ambitions and would reignite hopes for a playoff push.  The guy is a legend and staying would make me want his babies.  Sod a Piemonte special, he'd a get a Walrus Whammie  8)

On a side note, I wonder if Parkin reads these forums?  Certainly he's aware of what a hero he is for Town, he can't step onto a football pitch without a rendition of "Super Sam Parkin" and perhaps the memory of Northampton is all too fresh?

ario Gradi has labelled Swindon's Sam Parkin as "the outstanding candidate" in his search for a targetman but admits a deal is still way off.

The former Chelsea youngster is set to leave the County Ground this summer, with several Championship clubs, including Watford, interested in the services of the 24-year-old, who has scored more than 20 goals in each of his three seasons in Wiltshire.

Gradi, who reportedly had an offer for the striker turned down last month, said: "By common opinion he is the best of that type, because everybody I have spoken to has mentioned him as the outstanding candidate for that kind of player. We have to look at the leagues below us and obviously we look at the best. He is the best player to fit the bill.

"We made an enquiry but there was no offer. Their manager (Andy King) doesn't want to sell him, but I think it's pretty common knowledge that there is a clause in his contract that comes into effect fairly soon where if someone makes a certain offer then they are duty bound to sell him.

"Anyway I asked their manager to keep me informed and I expect he will do."

Gradi added: "It's very much a long shot at this stage I would have thought. The player is already earning good money and although we probably would be able to agree terms with the club, agreeing with the player would be less easy."

I wonder if the 'got to sell' date is July 1st - which is why he hasn't been sold....yet?

That was the rumour a couple of months back.
