Brum 4 Town 6 - Maskells weighted header is quality and not unlike the George Best one that is shown a million times a year...

Dave Mitchell diving header from edge of the box, v Watford 92/93 in the FA cup.  Wonderful goal.

Was it against Sheffield United (or maybe Norwich, the 2 teams which come into my head) that one of their players scored a diving header own goal at the county ground. Probably around 1997 I think.

There was a great OG header in the Preston v Cardiff game yesterday.

I seem to remember a Bury player scoring a cracking headed own goal at the Town End about that time...

Which time?  I remember some times, and not others, if they happened...

You sure? I might be wrong but I don't remember Bury being in Div 1(as then)/Championship(as now) level around then. Wouldn't be suprised if I was wrong though. My memory is sketchy as shit.

30th Jan 1999 could be the one I'm thinking of.

Ended 1-1, with Dean West scoring an OG in the 87th minute. The referee was a certain Mr S Bennett

Which time?  I remember some times, and not others, if they happened...

I remember one time which I think was a Sunday. Getting trough quite a lot of beer and playing pool and me stealing cigarettes. I think it was August bank holiday weekend and we were taken by surprise by them staying open till midnight because it was a bank holiday the next day or some crazy oldskool pub opening rules anyway. A scrambled couple of odd tasting Old Speckled Hen's later I've got a vague memory of puking up on my way home, ringing you and you said you'd just done the same.

Or something.

That was a bit of a conciousness stream of a post. You were in Swindon and I think I was working at Pizza Express so I'm guessing it must have been summer 2003, maybe 2004.

I do indeed remember this.  Definitely a couple of dodgy pints.  I seem to remember going straight back to the pipers the next evening though - I'm a slow learner.

Yeah. I remember us two going on a bit of a run in there, even when nobody else wanted to come out. Pool table was only 50p which was ace.

It was also one of the worst pool tables ever - but you can't argue with 50p.

Spot on sir, possibly my favourite Swindon goal due to the build up as well.

Shaun Taylor's headed goal against Watford from a corner, where he comes steaming in and he catches it perfectly with a diving header 10 yards out, which beats Calamity James in goal without even moving.

For Swindon, probably Peter Noble against Huddersfield I think it was.
Most of Alan Shearer's headers hit the net like bullets.

Best headed goal I ever scored v Wycombe Wanders earlier 70s winner in the Berks & Bucks 2nd Round.

15 yard thunderbolt, keeper never had a chance - best own goal I've ever scored.

For Swindon, probably Peter Noble against Huddersfield I think it was.

Noble was a craftsman in the same way that Alan Gilzean was at Spurs, delicate glancing stuff rather that OST rocketry....remember PN bagging a brace at Pompey, early 70's in a 2-1 win, with a couple of glancing headers from Rogers' crosses.

Pat Terry was the best centre forward header of a ball I've seen at the CG...like OST, he would stick his head on anything, and could do glances as well as bullets.

For some reason a brace he scored at the CG in 67 in front of 17000+ when we stuffed Reading 5-1 sticks in my mind....think it was because it was under lights, when the atmosphere at the CG used to be electric on a big night.

Sadly those days have gone, although when we were 2-1 up on QPR, the TE felt ready for lift off...just a shame we screwed up again.

I seem to remember Calton Palmer scoring one against Everton?  Not sure he meant it, though...

Swindons great forward Maurice Owen was meant to be a brilliant header of a ball....Shaun Taylors against Brum in the 6-4 match was good as well.

What about this by Marco Van Basten? 2m 20s.

An absolute beaut of a header, but where had the left side of the defending team gone? The full back runs about 50 yards unchallenged. Even the defending in the Conference is a little more stern than that.

OOH Sean Taylors goal V Leicester at Wembley. Iffy Onura at OPR for 2-1 I think which got me elected from the ground, and Pele V Italy (Mexico 70).

Did the stewards take a vote before kicking you out?

I remember that game against Reading - first evening game that I went to with mates from school rather than with my Dad and Uncle .I think the atmosphere was enhanced that night by the Reading fans burning their flags and causing general mayhem!

Agree about Pat Terry - best header of the ball I've seen at the CG

Best headed goal ?- Frank Burrows vs Hull at the Town End goal in 69/70(?) - came up for a corner and headed the ball so hard that it got stuck between the net and the stanchion !
