Title: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Post by: herthab on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 09:44:49 Armazing what they've acheived in a relatively short space of time and they've also done it properly.
Hopefully they'll get back in the League at some point. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Post by: Nick Bamosomi on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 10:41:59 That's great news - as you say, they've done it PROPERLY.
Good Luck to them Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Post by: Ralphy on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 11:07:57 I await the day when they play Dongs in the league and beat them.
I think the whole country will support AFC that day. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. If the Dongs, sign up the Dong with the Luminous Nose, I'd support them. Think they'd have to get him from Reading based Quang Tech mind. Post by: Bedford Red on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 11:27:24 The Conference will be a hard league to get out of, they will be up against some teams with the same fan base and crowds and money, not like the leagues they have come through so far.
Really pleased for them though, would love to see them back in the league as quickly as possible. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Post by: Ralphy on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 11:31:52 The conference is such a high standard now compared to 20 years ago. It is in affect, a 5th tier of the football league.
When you look at the league table there are some big clubs down there and also Oxford :) Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. You will also get people jumping on the bandwagon and their support will probably rise considerably now they are at a reasonable standard. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Post by: Ralphy on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 13:49:09 Does Plough Lane still exist?
I think they should re-open it and play there. Proper old school :) Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 15:27:34 Does Plough Lane still exist? Wikipedia says "Planning permission was given to developers, David Wilson Homes, in November 2004, with Section 106 agreement signed in October 2005, for a mixed use residential scheme on the site including 570 flats"I think they should re-open it and play there. Proper old school :) Wikipedia also says that Wimbledon relocated to Milton Keynes, which just isn't true, but I reckon the bit about property development is probably right. Suprised anyone really considers Plough Lane fit to build houses on though. Werent there electric pilons running through it? Well done the AFC! My recall of Plough Lane was a shit corner of land, between railways and roads, with those pylons...a bit like the shit-tip of ground Brady wanted us to build a new stadium on. Proper old school :) They now own the ground they currently play at which was previously owned by Kingstonian and rented to AFc. It's now the other way around after Kingstonian were close to going under and had to sell their ground. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Seeing as there are only 3 tiers in the Football League, it would make the conference the 4th tier. Though the conference is the 5th tier in the English league pyramid. Hope they meet the plastics on the way down, most would support that. Probably go and "support" them next year. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 22:36:37 It's a disgrace that only 2 teams go up from the conference. It was more of disgrace when it was only 1 and the football league would find excuses not to let them up, but it's still pretty bad.
It really should be 3 teams. There's a much bigger gap between the bottom end and top end of the conference than there is between the top of the conference and the bottom end of league 2. Well from what I've seen anyway. Title: Re: AFC Wimbledon Promoted to Blue Square Premier. It was 0 for a very long time due to the joke of the "applying for re-election" every year. I'd prefer to see 4 teams going down, with the conference split in to north / south and two from each going up. It would reduce travel costs for clubs and fans and increase attendances. Post by: Doore on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 22:47:01 The AFC story is a wonderful antithesis to the star studded financial crazytown of the premier league. I always look out for their results.
