Title: MotoGP
Post by: alanmayes on Sunday, April 12, 2009, 16:00:42
Tonight sees the start of the new MotoGP season, with the race in Qatar.BBC 3 live coverage from 8.45 pm.

I like all of the motor racing, whether it's Formula 1,Speedway or MotoGP.There are some good personalities
such as Valentino Rossi,James Toseland and others. One the things i like most about the bike racing,is the
constant overtaking, whether it's the riders at the front, middle or back of the race. There always seems to
be something going on.

This programme was shown on BBC2 at lunchtime and is a preview for the upcoming season.

Cannot fucking wait, it's going to be a great season. I've been watching the practice sessions and qualifying.

I think Stoner might pip it from Rossi this year. If Lorenzo can keep it on the tarmac he'll push close, but I don't think he's quite up to standard yet. Saying that he'll probably bin it on the first corner tonight :)

I hope JT does well this season, but I don't think his bike is good enough. Making everyone use the same tyres is a bit of a leveller, but I think it'll show JT up for only being a good rider when he's got a good bike under him.

Was going to make the effort to go to Donnington this year, but it falls on the same weeked as WorldNet so not going to be able to make it :(

What about De'Angelis' move on Pedrosa  perhaps he can't see Orange Repsol Honda's in the dark.

Did enjoy the 250 race though

I don't think so, the stewards investigated the incident and I haven't heard that there was any penalty. I guess he will just have to watch his back at the next round, although I don't think Pedrosa is the type to get involved in anything too physical.

Title: Re: MotoGP
Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 21:15:49
De Angelis just got the drive on a bit too early out of the corner. Pedrosa stayed on so he's got nothing to moan about.

Not like Rossi on Gibernau at Jerez in 2005. Sete nearly lumped Vale in the pit lane afterwards.

2006    69    Nicky HAYDEN (USA), Honda RC211V    Moto GP (990cc)
2005    46    Valentino ROSSI (ITA), Yamaha YZR-M1    Moto GP (990cc)
2004    46    Valentino ROSSI (ITA), Yamaha YZR-M1    Moto GP (990cc)
2003    46    Valentino ROSSI (ITA), Honda RC211V    Moto GP (990cc)
2002    46    Valentino ROSSI (ITA), Honda RC211V    Moto GP (990cc)

Nice to see its more varied than the 4 wheel sport.

Go go power rangers.

But it is more competitive on the track though. More overtaking gives for more exciting races. I dare you to find any F1 race that was better than the last 2 laps of the Catalunya MotoGP a few weeks ago.

As for Doohan and Rossi's dominance, Doohan had a revolutionary "big bang" Honda made NSR500 which was streets ahead of anything else other manufacturers were making. And Rossi is probably the most talented rider the world has ever seen, proving his dominance by winning the championship on 3 different machines.

Stick that bradley whats-his-face from the 125s on JTs trusty steed and see how he goes! I can't remember the last time a WSB rider crossed over into motogp and was competitive. I can't remember which troy (corser or bayliss?) Jumped into motogp and then said its a completely different way of riding, you have to effectively re-learn how to race.

It was Bayliss.

The difference between the two championships is huge. It's like comparing F1 to Touring Car racing. MotoGP bikes are purpose built racing machines, WSB bikes are just standard road bikes with a bit of tuning and slick tyres.

Considering his shoulder is costing him 0.5 seconds per lap, that was an astonishing ride from Rossi. I nearly came in my pants when he jumped from 9th to 2nd from the start.

No one was ever beating Stoner. The championship is his to throw away already. Pedrosa will just fall to pieces again and Lorenzo just hasn't got the temperament. He's bound to chuck it in to the gravel a few times.

No real surprise that Stoner won, He has always been quick in Qatar, and the Honda has looked very fast so far this year.

More of a concern is the problem that Danny mentioned after the race. If he doesn't get it sorted then it's going to be a two horse race this season (at least until Vale gets over his surgery)

Will be interesting to see how Stoner goes at Jerez, which should favour Lorenzo.
