Title: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: herthab on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 05:40:07
Don't think this'll be a goal-fest, a 1-0 win for either side, or a low scoring draw is most likely.

Hope I'm wrong and we stuff them!

Im nervous about today,  loss and we're in trouble but if they come out with the same performance as Yeovil, we won't get a thing.

Who you bringing Herthab?  Hope its not anyone too cocky...

Well, this is the first game this season that I am not looking forward to.

I think it is fair to say that, when it matters most, I have lost my bottle.

The last time we beat them was 2003. Since then we've not played them much, we've had two draws (last season), and one defeat (earlier this season)

I agree with the Marshall comment mate, if Kanu can play the whole 90 mins I will be surprised.

The team doesnt look too bad considering IMO, I just hope we are up for it today which we certainly werent last week at the yokels.

Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 14:56:57
Typical.
We started performing well against all the big teams, and managed to carry it on against Southend and Hereford. Only Swindon could then go and put in a game and a half of dross to drag themselves straight back into the relegation mix. Hopefully Wilson will sort it out at half time, as the players have shown they're capable of more

2nd half much better, but still never looked like scoring!  Timlin and OTJ were good 2nd half, but would have probably given Greer MOTM because he was solid for the whole 90.

Crewe did a job on us.  9 men behind the ball for the majority of the game and it seems that they settled for the point at half time.  Their game plan worked a treat!  Fair Play to them, we needed that sort of performance last week!

We are going to have to break our usual habit of losing at Brighton now if we want to stay in this league IMO.

Post by: DV on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 16:37:02
Smith was good.

Only one team was interested in winning that today. Crewe were happy to play for the 0-0.

Amankwaah was good and deserved man of the match purely for that tackle at the end.

We werent brilliant, we werent shit either - cant believe our fans booed at the end of the game!! fucking idiots.

Bloody hell Carlisle get a last last minute equaliser ffs!

It's what you've got to do if you want to stay up....think we've now reached the stage, of needing to hope that Northampton implode....given they've home games to come and a reasonable home record....can't see it happening.  Think we're now favourites amongst the strugglers to drop.  >:(

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: Luci on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 16:39:57
I thought today was simply one shit team against another.  I can't really see any positives to be honest and if we are lucky enough to stay up then my God has Wilson got his work cut out.

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: michael on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 16:40:28
Amankwaah frustrates me.

He'll make a decent burst forward, then move the ball on and drift inside and then just wait for something to happen. Go outside lad, hit the spaces, give them problems.

Crewe could have been 3-0 up after half an hour, and Zola was a handful. I think it's a good point for us really.

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 16:52:29
Crewe came with a game plan and it worked. Sadly we had no penetration in the centre of the park and it showed. We couldn't brake them down and they played for the point. I didn't think we were that bad but we had our shaky moments in the first half when they could have been 2-0 up and also at the end when they could have easily scored but for a great tackle from Kev.

It's going to the wire is this. A point today was not the end of the world although it now means we need to win a game on the road or draw all 3. Interesting for sure.

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 16:53:21

Now, i've never been on a V.I.P. day at the County Ground but how much free booze do they get? because there was no way Timlin was MOTM today.

A draw was a fair result because we were crap and they came here for the point.

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: Batch on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 17:02:00
My twopenneth:

Crewe were the better team in the first half and squandered a few good chances. At that point I thought our luck was in and we'd make 'em pay for it. We had two wingers on the pitch and both were tucking in to midfield leaving us with no width.

We definitely looked better in the second half, but about a threatening as a jelly baby.

What worries me is the lack of urgency. For large periods it felt like we were just plodding through the game, as if we were already on 54 points and looking forward to a holiday.

On player level, thought HRK was mostly gash,  as was Cox,  with McNamee not much better. Paynter did OK. OTJ and Timlin did OK, though the latter would be dangerous with a right foot. Despite Cewe's first half chances 3 of the back four looked solid. Amankwha had an indifferent game putting in goal saving tackles one minute and plodding through the motions  the next

Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 17:05:33
Just got back, haven't read the thread. At the risk of suffering the rath of DRS, a section of our fans need a fuckign reality check. We played quite well towards the end, patient build up to try and break down the 11 men behind the ball - it didn't work, Crewe did their job very well, fair enough, they earnt their point. But there was no justification in my mind for booing Timlin or the team.

Disappointing that we couldn't force a goal (Cox was very poor today) but I have a feeling we'll win at Brighton :) .

I don't think he did.

Most embarrasing moment of the season was MacNamee getting caught offside whilst taking a short-corner.

Agree with what everybody else who was at the game has said, we could have been behind at half time but in the second half there was only one team in it.  Obviously when a team sets up with three giant centre backs you need to get behind them, sadly our wide men were not up to it today.  MacNamee was hardly in the game first half, his only duty seemed to be taking corners, some of which were duly fucked up with him and Kanu trying several short corner routines.  Disgraceful booing of Timlin, he played well today as did OTJ and Billy P.  Sadly Cox was well off colour, he had the first touch of a giraffe - £2 mill., your're having a laugh.

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: JPC82 on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 17:17:56
thought Timlin was 1 of our better players, he was the only 1 who wanted to get the ball down and play OTJ has zero footballing ability, hes a great tackler and breaks thing up but just lumps the fucking thing time after time! Kanu looked dangerous with a few long range efforts, finally we have a midfileder who is willing to shoot. Cox and Paynter were both poor, Greer was solid as usual

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: DV on Saturday, April 4, 2009, 17:19:35
Timlin passes it and keeps possesion and our fans arent happy with him.

Ifil does the opposite and gets the ball forward and our fans arent happy with him either.

That's bollocks, mate. He keeps possession very well, and instead of hoofing it like a lot of our players tend to do, he actually looks for a man in space. He's also the one who's constantly movin to recieve a pass. He played very well imo.

With that said, i'd have personally given the MOTM to Greer, as i thought he was solid throughout and didn't put a foot wrong. I hope we can sign him on permantly, as well as Tudor Jones, but i think the latter may still have some unfinished business at Swansea.

All in all, a draw was a fair result. We had quite a few half chances, and on another day, they may have fallen for us. Oh well, let's do Brighton on Saturday :)

Well said but I thuoght Phil Smith was a positive. He made some ggod catches and made a couple of decent saves.
I am not knocking Phil Smith but my granny would have caught most of those, the save in the first half was going wide anyway but the one late on was first class!  Crewe helped him out by hoofing it straight through all the time, but it was good to see him catch everything, just one punch as I recall.  It really was a pretty routine day at the office for him, but he made no mistakes! :)

I thought Phil Smith had a good game today, most importantly he actually passed the ball to one of his team mates on occasion rather than just booting it to the opposition or off the pitch - still room for improvement in his distribution but an improvement. He didn't drop anything and he even flapped at one ball correctly (pushing it away from danger which was a good call).

Overall we were shit. Don't know why they have to keep lumping the ball forward, they actually look dangerous and that they know what they are doing when they pass it up the pitch.

Didn't think we were shit at all.

Crewe came for a point and in the 2nd half basically had a ten man defence.

We weren't clever enough to break them down, but we weren't shit.

Thought Greer was very good, as was P.Smith and Timlin.

Funny how people see different games, OTJ has no footballing ability? I thought he had a decent game today, on the ball, with out the ball and just in general. Looks to play the ball, would hardly say he lumped it forward, Ifil lumps it forward. OTJ tries to put the ball in decent areas.

Timlin is probably on free kicks because he isnt that bad at them, good goal against Yeovil earlier in the season similar position (opposite end) as todays free kick - perfect for a left footer.

A point, maybe a dissapointed point but 1 point closer. Fingers crossed now Northampton fuck up somewhere along the line

I thought Timlin was our man of the match closely followed by Vincent, saying that there wasn't many who could have contested the award.
I've seen worse sides than Crewe higher in the league this season, we needed three points, but a point was probably fair.
I've knocked Smith in goal all season, today I thought he was excellent apart from one cross, but handled the high ball better than Brez has all season.
Disappointing game, disappointing crowd reaction as well to the way we play, Wilson has us playing the ball across the back trying to make space, when we play that way we look a good unit, problem being there is no get out ball from the players out wide, especially McNamee who was poor today.
So we move on, Brighton is a huge game.

I'd agree with that FG!  Timlin and OTJ are a good combination, but people don't see what they are doing because they are not impact players!  They had nobody to pass to today because the 4 outlets at best didn't have the best of games.  Macca, Kanu, Cox and Paynter did not make it easy for the two of them in there but if you sat and watched the movement of these 2 players and the way (in the 2nd half) they got the ball down and played it simply, they controlled the midfield without much help tbh.

There is more to a game than getting the ball and running at the goal or the goaline as our impact players do, and Timlin and OTJ broke the play up well today and were the start of the little that we created today!  When they are one of the few players that are actually trying to take some responsibility and impose themselves on the game they are going to make the odd mistake which is when the dickheads in the crowd start.  These dickheads seem to know fuck all about football.

Oh, and the TWAT in the DRS that shouted out at the top off his voice "Ifil why don't you just fuck off!" needs shooting!  We are in a dogfight and need our players with as much confidence as possible and shouting shit like that which he definately heard does no good whatsoever!  Here is a piece of advice, listen to yourself and why don't YOU just fuck off, your attendance is not required, go and support a premiership plastic team you cunt!

That's all!

I understand that some people don't understand the game and that's fine if you want to eff and jeff to yourself, but to shout that shit out at the top of your voice takes the piss if you really are a fan of the club.  Some people just bemuse the shit out of me!

Yeah but our fans don't want that, they want us to Hoof the fucking thing forward at every opportunity. That is except when we do hoof it forward the very same fuckers boo that.

Well pissed off with the booing after the game. I know we didn't play well but it was our (for want of a better word) creative players that let us down today. Cox, MacNamee & Robson-Kanu all had poor games, not that there was a particular lack of effort they just didn't play well. It happens, especially in Div 3.

The positive was that we didn't get beat, which on another day easily could have happened.

Apparently they have already asked us but we have yet to supply them with an answer as we don't know how big the game will be for us but then the same also applies to them. Think they can only reduce the allocation if the opposing team agrees to it.

We sit just to the left of halfway in row K.

I thought Jerel did OK today. We all know that distribution is his weak point (and lets be fair so do the opposition), so he tried to keep it simple and most of the time play the ball to the nearest free man (either square to Greer, or into Timlin who was always the man attempting to give him an option).

Problem is there's too many of our fans who don't see that it's better for us to keep the ball, than it is to just hoof it up to there defence (all of which were 6 foot plus) and lose it.

I will not use that word sir:
Instead I will use ****'s
There are always better alteratives than the 'C' word, does anyone else remember that terribly funny sketch about Rindercella by Ronnie Barker, so if you haven't here it is and he kept a straight face throughout.

This is the story of Rindercella and her sugly isters.

Rindercella and  her sugly isters lived in a marge lansion. Rindercella worked very hard  frubbing sloors, emptying poss  pits, and  shivelling shot. At the end  of the day, she was  knucking  fackered. The sugly isters  were right bugly astards. One was  called Mary Hinge, and the other was called Betty Swallocks; they were really forrible  huckers;  they had fetty sweet and fatty swannies. The sugly isters had tickets to go to the  ball, but the cotton runts would not let Rindercella go.

Suddenly there was  a bucking fang, and her gairy fodmother appeared.  Her name was  Shairy Hithole and she was a light rucking fesbian. She turned a pumpkin and six mite wice into a hucking cuge farriage with six dandy ronkeys who had  buge hollocks and dig bicks. The gairy fodmother told Rindercella to be back by dimnlight otherwise, there would be a cucking falamity. At the ball,  Rindercella was dancing with the prandsome hince when suddenly the clock  struck twelve. 'Mist all chucking frighty!!!' said Rindercella, and she ran  out tripping barse over ollocks,  so dropping her slass glipper.

The very next day  the prandsome hince knocked on Rindercella's door and the sugly isters  let  him in. Suddenly, Betty Swallocks lifted her leg and let off a fig bart. 'Who's  fust jarted??' asked the prandsome hince. 'Blame that fugly ucker over there!!' said Mary Hinge. When the stinking brown cloud had lifted, he tried the slass glipper on both the sugly isters without success and their feet stucking funk. Betty Swallocks was ducking fisgusted and gave the prandsome hince a knack in the kickers. This was not difficult as he had bucking fuge halls and a hig bard on. He tried the slass glipper on Rindercella and it fitted pucking ferfectly. Rindercella and the prandsome hince were married. The pransome hince lived his life in lucking fuxury, and Rindercella lived hers with a follen  swanny!

c**t isn't really an alternative, it's just the same word left for the reader to fill in two letters making it pointless. Surely you might as well just say cunt.

If you want to go with proper alternatives then use some imagination. Like Ronnie Barker.

Personally I think cunt is a great word and should be used everyday.

Title: Re: Swindon V Crewe Matchday Thread.
Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, April 5, 2009, 11:12:49
I think cunt is a rubbish word. It holds such a power as an expletive that it's an easy way to release our frustration out on the world. Whilst you shouldn't keep things bottled up, this instant satisfaction reinforces bad behaviour. The need to have instant satisfaction from frustration leads to more impulsive and possibly violent reactions to stress.

Imagine a world where people had to stop and calm down at moments of difficulty. Stop and think of a way to relieve their frustrations without the easy option of cunting cunt cunt. In such a world we'd be a calmer and more thoughtful nation. Crime rates would fall, creativity would rise. Domestic violence would be a thing of the past.

The way to this utopia isn't keeping 'cunt' on a pedestal of awfulness. To remove it's power it needs to be used everyday in the most mundane situations. Shout to the world that you're going to get a cunting icecream! Greet all your friends with 'hey cunt'! Say cunt for Britain! Britain needs more cunts! Ask not what your country can do for you, say cunt for your country!

Yay Cunt. I believe.

I quite like our style of play. Keep hold of the ball, simple passes, tight as a unit, patient and wait for an opening. It was tough on Saturday because Crewe came with a game plan to shut us out and unfortunately it worked.

I quite like our style of play. Keep hold of the ball, simple passes, tight as a unit, patient and wait for an opening. It was tough on Saturday because Crewe came with a game plan to shut us out and unfortunately it worked.

Clueless football was Malpas' football, this is not.

If simple passing is banging long to Gulliver and Gulliver in Crewes defence then i stand corrected.
