I'm 99.9% certain he'll be gone in the summer now, which is fair enough.

I do think we need to get £2m minimum and reinvest most of it in trying to replace him, or we'll struggle again.

Right lets use our common sense. Matty Fryatt is shit in the championship, give us fryatt and £1m and cox is all yours.

EASY

You really think we need to spend most of £2m to replace one player in League One? Getting out of League One (the right way) is more about building a team than spending millions on players. You may need to spend some money on players, but certainly not millions. Being able to offer decent wages (and being able to pay them) is far more important than lashing out on transfer fees at this level. Spending wildly on transfer fees is more of a recipe for bankruptcy than success.

I reckon West Brom would be a good move for Cox and his best option for a stepping stone to a decent Premier League side. Sure they'll get relegated but they'll be in the top 6 in the Championship next season and will most likely go straight back up again - they've been going up and down like a yo-yo in recent years.

we just have to accept he is good as gone.other clubs are a better option for a player, rather than us despite our history.
both cox and morrison will be sold.where the money for those players goes is what concerns me most.

I don't think Morrison will be gone.

Sell Cox for 2 million, some of it invested in the squad and keep Morrison for another season.

Sell him at the end of next season and reinvest in the squad.

We only need one cash cow a year.

Pook is likely to command a big transfer fee. I reckon this talk of scouts watching Cox are a cover for clubs to steal MP from us for pittance hapeney.

both cox and morrison will be sold.

If Cox won't sign a contract extension he has to be sold, either in the summer or the January transfer window otherwise he'll leave for nothing next summer. We don't have the same problem with Morrison, even if his contract runs out we'll still get some money for him though I really can't see him turning down a new contract with us.

We also won't get top dollar if we sell Morrison now, playing a full season next year will make him worth a lot more.

Cox will still be under 24 next July so we would still get recompense, we'd probably get stiffed as usual but he wouldn't go for nowt if it runs out.

I thought they had to be under 23 for compensation. You sure about it being under 24?

I would snap their hands off for that figure!

He'll be 23 next summer though, but as you said it is under 24 so we're safe.

In which case, why sell him unless we get a stupid offer? Sure the tribunal would most likely screw us but surely they could go below a million if we've been getting offers above that?

Promotion to the Championship would be worth a lot more than we will ever get for a single player.

I wouldnt want to wait for a compo tribunal to stich us.  It would be a massive gamble with long odds that cox staying another season could help get us to the championship bearing in mind results this season with him. Even if we get rid of half of the squad and replace them its still a massive gamble.

I'd much rather we just sold him for £2m, at least we know where we stand with that.  Althoghth the ideal scenario is he signs a 5 year contract with a £10m release clause obviously.

Anyone who knows the name John Bostock will know why tribunuals are a bad idea.

Bostock is an unproven 16 year old though, and the deal wasn't as bad as Jordan made out. There were lots of add on's on top of the 6-700k up front, so no comparisson really, saying that we have been stiffed before.

When he goes for £1.5m can we have a protest?

True, they are at different stages in their development.

But
-Bostock was England U16 captain and star player by all accounts
-He had played in their 1st team in the championship at 16
-Palace had trained him since he was very young
-Young British talent of his age have gone for £5m + in recent years (walcott, Ramsey)

-Cox has never represented England at any level to my knowledge, and only played 1st team games in league 1 (bar a handful of sub appearances for Reading)
-We will have only had him for 2.5 years when it went to tribunual, they are ruling on compo for the training he has recieved not his market value now

I'd be surpised if we got more than £500k + add ons through a tribunual.

We'd had Sean O'Hanlon for a similiar amount of time at a similiar age and we got 75k for him.

Which would be a good move considering he'll still be playing for us and we'll have money in the bank.

yeah it would be,but i cannot see a club allowing it personally.not straight away after moving clubs anyway.

Thats as good us stfc being used...keeping a player and adding to his ability just for his new club to sell him at a higher price than we sold him for, yet we still train him. if this deal is true i would hope we'd get some nice add-ons put onto his new contract at his new club.

Does anyone know if the deal with Reading for Cox had a sell on clause, and if so what it was?

Pretty certain it did for 25% if not more.
