Title: Super Furry Animals Post by: michael on Monday, March 9, 2009, 20:20:43 My favourite band. And like yer man Owain they can speak Welsh.
There is some weird stuff going on at their website http://www.superfurry.com/ Looks, and sounds, like they're recording a new album or summink, and are documenting it on the web via the medium of daily looped videos. Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: michael on Monday, March 9, 2009, 20:25:33 Interesting that on day 5 they used a wah wah pedal - not nearly enough of that in pop music these days for my liking.
Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: michael on Monday, March 9, 2009, 20:27:28 And possibly a fuzz bass on day 7
Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: flammableBen on Monday, March 9, 2009, 20:28:21 They've got a New album out in 1 week.

Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: michael on Monday, March 9, 2009, 20:37:06 Yes, Gruff and Boom Bip were Neon Neon. That album was alright.
Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: adje on Monday, March 9, 2009, 20:46:23 What's your favourite SFA album?
Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: STFC Village on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 00:40:18 I'm a big fan of "Mwng", but it's got to be "Phantom Power" for me
Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 09:08:02 hey venus is a masterpiece
Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 09:11:35 Super Furry Animals are never ones to stay still creatively, and with their forthcoming (currently untitled) 9th studio album they have decided to document the process on 4 individual hand held cameras. But this will be no ordinary 'the making of the album' story; it's a series of Warhol like observations, of a band putting the finishing touches to songs, a celebration of the banal nature of the mixing process. Whole chunks of time seem to vanish at twice the speed over a slow game of darts or the making of a cup of tea as a song is played on repeat 26 times on the mixing console.
Inspired by Mike Figgis's ground breaking film 'Time Code' the episodes will be released in 21 individual episodes starting on the 23rd February, 8p.m.GMT through this site. 'Ah! Greetings friends, join us for the next few weeks as we finish up our new album for your ears. We have borrowed 4 video cameras from friends and family and we will document events as they unfold, hopefully with as little drama as possible.' The Film Council of SFA. Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: adje on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 13:42:50 hey venus is a masterpiece yep-that's my favourite, full of great tracks Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: michael on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 17:46:43 My favourite remains Radiator, but I can find good in all of them. The closing run on that album is very strong indeed, and the times that I have seen them play 'Mountain People' live they have closed it off with a great big fuck off techno section, which is nice.
I have Guerilla down as their weakest effort, FYI. Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 18:05:35 Guerilla has northenr lites and arguably the greatest song of all time, fire in my heart.
Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: michael on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 18:12:12 Yes, you are right, those are both great tracks.
I loved Radiator so much when it came out, that Guerilla could only ever be a disappointment. In tribute to this thread I am giving 'Nightvision' an airing right now. Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: michael on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 18:20:23 You might be interested in giving the Acid Casuals' "Omni" album a listen.
It is, for all intents and purposes, a collection of SFA-style electronica by Cian Ciaran. Title: Re: Super Furry Animals Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 18:27:48 Ive got it, sfa are headling beachdown festival in august and will be doing a dj set at my club night after :)

Some kind of sucky video edit of the song, but still cracking none-the-less. |
