Title: fitting dab car ariel
Post by: kaufman on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 12:10:22
I've just bought a dab radio and a rooftop ariel and wanted to know the best place to take the car to get the ariel fitted.
I know people go to halfords but it can be quite pricey.
Does anybody know local garages who do this sort of thing?
Fitting the stereo is easy enough but it's just the ariel side which i don't trust myself with

Same as. Wasn't 70 quid, but then they fitted the radio and everything for me at the same time so there was probably an element of "While you're in there". 70 quid sounds dear but FWIW they did a good job on mine. Not saying you couldn't get as good done cheaper elsewhere mind

Yes i phoned back and they said max would take and hour and a half so that's about £60.
If they do it within the hour then It's £40 like you said.

Any factory worker worth his salt should be able to do this

The better ones are called DAB hands at it

I got a Pure Highway digital radio for the car, it's brill.  Internal ariel works a treat.  Well happy.

Are you using a Aux in or the FM transmitter to get it playing out your car stereo? Was looking at this before but I have no (easy method) of using aux in and was put off.

That said, MW isn't too bad in my new car anyway.

Errrrm, I tune my FM onto a certain frequency and it picks up the DAB device.  Does that answer your question?

Although I took it to the match last night as it doubles up as a portable digi radio.

According to reviews in places like London it's not so good as you keep getting other FM stations coming over the top of the DAB, but I've not had any problems around Wiltshire.

Cool, perfect answer Jan, thanks.

FYI. Some stereos have an "ipod jack" and you can plug it into that - hence avoiding FM interference! But if it works round these parts then great.

Ah right, I get you!!  My car stereo's inbuilt haven't noticed anywhere that you could link the stereo to the digi.  Could be wrong though.  I know that the Pure Digi radio can be linked to an i-pod, according to the user guide.
