So far you are!!

There are a couple of obscure ones who have Swindon connections (You've already got Gorman which was obvious) which I am guessing Reg will probably get.

Billy Davies at Derby?

Aye.

6 to get - some toughies left and a fairly obvious 1 as well. Still a manager with a Swindon connection in there (although I had never heard of him until earlier today)

Title: Re: 27 (quizzage)
Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 14:31:13
The Swindon connection thing is a good clue, I take it he was a caretaker manager at a club temporarily and is an ex player rather than a manager or backroom staff?

Nope - This fella played 7 games on loan at Town in 1973.

Afraid not. Just checked. Aitken was caretaker but only took charge for 3 pre-season games before Martin O'Neill took charge for the season proper.

Technically you could say he is English being born in Yorkshire somewhere, but played 40 times for Scotland so becomes number 25 in the list.

2 left - 1 you should get. He is a living legend who made his name at a team currently in League 1.

The other I wouldn't expect anyone to know - although he was recently an assistant at an International team and is reserve team manager at a Premiership Club at the moment.

He took over from DW the season after their relegation from the Premiership.

Jimmy Gabriel...I  could have stayed here all night and not got him.

Never seems to get much of a mention in the all time crap STFC players stakes...a classic Les Allen signing...he was way past his sell by date when joining us.

I saw him make his debut at Pompey..it near broke my heart to see the pile of shit we'd become, and how stalwarts like Thomas Trollope Burrows and Butler were having to cope in a crap outfit with dross like Mick McGovern, Ron Potter and sorry to say Flash Dave Syrett.

Ray Treacy scored for us in a routine 1-3 defeat...he wasn't too bad, Mackay had bought him.

But he and Thomas were away within a couple of games...bizarrely Les Allen had bought Ray Clarke from Spurs reserves, probably to replace Treacy...but it didn't work for him here and he went on to be a legend for Feyenoord and Ajax.
