Title: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:29:57 Anyone watching this tonight?
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:30:24 ...of course not!
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:43:17 why not?
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:43:50 It's tonight. Hmm, well, I was planning on doing my nice big pile of washing up but this sounds slightly less dull
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:44:37 Although Villa is on five...
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: land_of_bo on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:45:12 no
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:51:14 I've missed most pop music this year, is there anything good? I got a bit bored of the boring identikit guitar pop, and my craving for some proper tuneful synthy beat pop hasn't been filled by the monotony of snow patrol / elbow / coldplay sound alikes.
So who's nominated for what? All I know at the moment is that Lily Allen's new single is better than Morrissey's Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:56:57 Apparently Pet Shop Boys are getting an award, Ben, if that meets your synthy beat pop needs? They will be performing as well with Lady GaGa, it seems.
This message was dictated by my girlfriend. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: axs on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:57:25 Nope.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 19:59:43 why not? No major reason - I've never been a fan of the Brits. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Sussex on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:01:31 Eastenders isn't on so I'll probably watch, if only for Kings of Leon.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:06:20 im in it for Kings of leon! no idea who is up for what, i think coldplay is up for a few! not too sure about u2's new song!?
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:07:20 haha ace intro!
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:07:57 I quite liked MGMT's album, that was this year wasn't it? But aren't they american?
Spiritualized and Portisheads new efforts were pretty enjoyable to listen to, but I tended to go back to listening to their older albums again pretty quick. I'm sure I must have downloaded more new music I just can't remember it, and I don't listen to the radio much. "That's not my name" or whatever it's called is quite catchy, is that the Ting Tings or something? Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:13:18 it is indeed the ting tings ben and you can catch them...tonight! MGMT are ace
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:14:35 I wouldn't watch if I had the choice, which I don't because my missus is in charge of the TV right now and I'm stuck with Project Runway instead.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:16:40 cool.
ooh. Girls Aloud can normally be relied on to provide a good pop tune. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:17:42 cheryl is so lush!!!
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:18:18 The chorus is good but the rest is crap. Boo at girls aloud.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: tans on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:18:39 mmm cheryl and kimberley :)
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:19:21 a little known fact for you......i have seen girls aloud live! aceness
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:22:41 I've just put this on and I see a terrible selection for "Best British Single".
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:23:39 yeah that looks pretty bad, was the girls aloud song the one they just played?
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:25:14 ...and Fearn Cotton talking, lordy I loathe that woman.

When they were first on top of the pops with yellow and stuff I thought he had down syndrome or something the way he was playing on the keyboards. I think it's a bit sick to pretend to be honest. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:35:29 Are there any solo males this year?
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:36:14 I turn it on again and it's Cotton with Cullum and Jamie Oliver... Is it live from Pullen's Room 101?
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:37:37 I'm finding this whole Brit Award experience very confusing.
I just downloaded Simian Mobile Disco - Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release. I might listen to that instead. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:50:20 gotta be better then duffy fB! I think she is shit!

Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 20:58:59 I haven't listened yet.
I'm tempted to leave the Brit Awards on until the pet shop boys are on, but to be honest the last advert brake seemed an hour and a half long. I'm aborting the brits like an accidental interracial pregnancy. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Bogus Dave on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 21:01:38 woooo go england

Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: cib on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 21:52:00 Who let the ting tings perform? They're awful. One of the worst things from 2008, them and Maurice Malpas. Brits incidentally a bit of a joke for some time now....maybe since the start ? Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:25:05 i thought the tings tings were ace.

Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Arriba on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:27:09 what was wrong with the ting tings? like mex i thought they were good.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: axs on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:28:55 That single 'not my name' really grated.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:29:47 there thing with estelle was the best thing on the brits tonight.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:33:57 Thank god I'm near the end of the Empire of The Sun album. The first half isn't bad but god the second half drags on. Some of the production seems a bit confused on it, and half the time the singer seems to be trying to do a bad Bowie impression, but often sounds more like Annie Lenox.
I see why it's compared to MGMT, but it's not as good. The MGMT album has much more direct fun energy about it, this feels more like a cake where somebody hasn't known when to stop adding ingredients. To be honest, I might be being a bit harsh. I zoned out from much of the album, but that's partly because it didn't hold my attention at all. I might not have been in the mood for it. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: blinkpip on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:36:28 Boo, going to see the ting tings in Swindon in two weeks with the missis.
Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: axs on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:36:57 there thing with estelle was the best thing on the brits tonight. I'm not sure thats much of a commendation. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:38:24 I might get the Ting Tings album now, so I can judge who's right.
I've only heard the single and I can see why it could grate, but I quite enjoyed it. Similar to that Reverend and the Makers song which should grate your face off but is quite fun. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: axs on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 22:40:11 I have the reverend and the makers album and quite like it, the ting tings album may be good too, but i can't get past that irritating single.

Ive become annoyed by them because of the NME's quote that world domination 'literally awaits' for them. I know its not thier fault, its just typical, of NME's hyperbole and very poor journalism. Literally awaits my arse. Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, February 19, 2009, 07:35:50 Glad Elbow won an award. Great album and brilliant live.

Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Thursday, February 19, 2009, 10:34:06 I dont get the pet shop boys - can someone please explain?
They sing happy songs but look dead grumpy and dont move and yet wear silly clothes?? and is that man on the keyboard actually playing it? or just pretending? since when has the guy out of the killers been so hot as well? I want to be in Girls aloud - that is all Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: LucienSanchez on Thursday, February 19, 2009, 10:36:15 I too want to be in Girls Aloud. All of them.

I would be scared that if i was podging one of them , that there face would fall off and there would be a beth ditto lookalike underneath Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Thursday, February 19, 2009, 10:57:27 OMG have you seen Beth Ditto in this weeks Heat??? tings tings are ace, saw them live at reading and they were awesome. she's hot as well. Girls Aloud were great at V, good band IMO. MGMT should have won best album, but I'm pleased elbow won sometiing - that albukm was incredible. They were amazing on that BBC thing live... thought james corden, kylie and matt horne did a good job, although horne looked a bit freaky... Title: Re: Brit Awards Post by: fatbury on Thursday, February 19, 2009, 13:00:49 Brits .. not that good last night
Coldplay or Take That NOT Elbow should have won best group - this is a POP awards show after all! Annoyed that the talented Adele was shoved aside by the awful Duffy ... There's no such thing as over brainy unless intelligence is something that you might be scared of because you're some kind of Chloe Deacon. Yeah, those Greenpeace types really fuck me off too! I'm not interested in talking to someone unless they're tipping oil into a school fish pond whilst harpooning a whale. Fair enough on the self righteous bit. Have I just defended Chris Martin? Why can't you just not like him because his music is shit godammit! I've had it with people thinking that scruffy is some sort of crime. I get it all the time at work. 'tuck your shirt in', 'you need a shave', 'why are your eyes bloodshot?'. Yeah, fuck off! Like spending hours tarting yourself up makes you in some way more efficient.
