I've missed most pop music this year, is there anything good? I got a bit bored of the boring identikit guitar pop, and my craving for some proper tuneful synthy beat pop hasn't been filled by the monotony of snow patrol / elbow / coldplay sound alikes.

So who's nominated for what?

All I know at the moment is that Lily Allen's new single is better than Morrissey's

Apparently Pet Shop Boys are getting an award, Ben, if that meets your synthy beat pop needs? They will be performing as well with Lady GaGa, it seems.

I quite liked MGMT's album, that was this year wasn't it? But aren't they american?

Spiritualized and Portisheads new efforts were pretty enjoyable to listen to, but I tended to go back to listening to their older albums again pretty quick.

I'm sure I must have downloaded more new music I just can't remember it, and I don't listen to the radio much.

Did you know that Chris Martin doesn't really have a touch of retardation, he just pretends too on stage.

When they were first on top of the pops with yellow and stuff I thought he had down syndrome or something the way he was playing on the keyboards. I think it's a bit sick to pretend to be honest.

Thank god I'm near the end of the Empire of The Sun album. The first half isn't bad but god the second half drags on. Some of the production seems a bit confused on it, and half the time the singer seems to be trying to do a bad Bowie impression, but often sounds more like Annie Lenox.

I see why it's compared to MGMT, but it's not as good. The MGMT album has much more direct fun energy about it, this feels more like a cake where somebody hasn't known when to stop adding ingredients.

To be honest, I might be being a bit harsh. I zoned out from much of the album, but that's partly because it didn't hold my attention at all. I might not have been in the mood for it.

Boo, going to see the ting tings in Swindon in two weeks with the missis.

I've only heard the single and I can see why it could grate, but I quite enjoyed it. Similar to that Reverend and the Makers song which should grate your face off but is quite fun.

I have the reverend and the makers album and quite like it, the ting tings album may be good too, but i can't get past that irritating single.

Ive become annoyed by them because of the NME's quote that world domination 'literally awaits' for them.  I know its not thier fault, its just typical, of NME's hyperbole and very poor journalism.

my friends daughter won a competition to meet girls aloud backstage before a brighton centre gig. She said she had never seen so much make up on women ever in her life, she said it was proper caked.

tings tings are ace, saw them live at reading and they were awesome. she's hot as well. Girls Aloud were great at V, good band IMO.

MGMT should have won best album, but I'm pleased elbow won sometiing - that albukm was incredible. They were amazing on that BBC thing live...

yeah i agree its the music industry awards but its traditionally pop or popular music ... Elbow havent sold half as many albums as Coldplay or Take That ... I didnt say I didnt like them ... I actually did!

The awards clearly have a critical factor, they've never just been given out to the biggest selling.
