Title: MOT/Tyres
Post by: Luci on Sunday, February 1, 2009, 13:24:13
Hi All,

Anyone know where in Swindon are currently doing any deals on the following?

-MOT testing
-Tyres

My car badly needs tyres as they are bald and my spare is apparently punctured and has been for a while so will prob need 3 possibly 4 new ones.

50 quid a tyre for the last one so if anyone knows any deals anywhere, it would be greatly appreciated.

If all your tyres are bald and the spare is punctured you're going to need at least 4, 5 if they can't repair the punctured one.

You could always go for some cheap tyres to last you a little while until you can afford better ones.

Scrapheap Challenge, take a couple of mates to help, you will pick up tyres for about £10.

Yeovil is the man to ask. When he is not directing air traffic he knows a lot about this shit.

I think 2 possible 3 are illegal and embarrassingly, I only noticed last night.  I wondered why my car skidded a bit on certain braking occasions, especially when i only had the brake pads done in the last few months.

I always use Bells in Old town for tyres/exhausts and cross street garage for MOT.

I've been given this website www.e-tyres.co.uk. Not sure what they are like though but seem cheap.

Shouldn't work out too much then if you go for some cheapies, even if they only last you a short time until you have more money. :)

Just avoid main dealers and phone a few places and you may get better deals on MOTs etc. You don't need a service too?

I just used HiQ for MOT and Full Service on my Astra. £124 all in, MOT on its own was £25. Don't know if there is one in Swindon, but I'd imagine so. Ring around, get lots of quotes. A little bit of effort will save you loads.

And bald IS beautiful (yes, I've seen your Facebook status......)

Tee hee - it can't be!

On the up side, I got a car insurance quote fully comp for £228! woop!

On the net it says about taking cars to council MOT test centres as they don't do repairs so wwon't get conned.  Problem is, they don't have one in flipping Swindon - closest is Calne.

I think you will find the one in Calne is for hgv, what the heck are you driving?  Always use Imperial Tyres on the Elgin estate for tyres etc.  They quote you a price, usually very competitive, and that includes everything, fitting, valves and disposal of old tyres etc.  Kwik Fit add all that on!!

Like Sippo says, etyres are cheap and they fit them at your home.  I take my car to Lucknow garage top end of Shrivvie road, £27.50 and they don't try and invent a problem that isn't there!
