Think it's the jelly crap in between pastry and pork in the pie that just gives the pastie the edge for me.  I'd take a pork pie now though in the absence of a pastie.

I'm a bit limited for choice out here, I am also a bit of a sausage roll fan but the Thai's idea of a sausage roll is literally a sausage in a roll which is not quite the same.

My kingdom for a Devon Savouries (Do they still have them there?)

Australian beef pies are the best pies in the world.  FACT.

Steak & Egg is the daddy.  Everywhere in Oz seems to sell an amazing range of home made pies, they love them more than we do.

Can't beat a Pork Pie for a quick snack outa the fridge.  I usually just nuke em in the microwave so any jelly that be there is gone.

The fact that pork pies are quite unhealthy sort of takes the edge off them.  I would probably enjoy eating them a lot more if I knew they weren't so unhealthy

If the sludge wasn't in there it would be more healthy right?

Fact: Things taste better if they are unhealthy. I am not religious, but if I was I'd be god was having a laugh when he 'invented things'.

Consider :

Bacon v Quorn
Fried Onions v Celery (ooh ahh)
Pork Pies v carboard.

The sooner you realise that unhealthy things are just 'better' the sooner food becomes pleasurable.

Of course the slight disadvantage is higher riskk of heart disease and becoming a fat bastard.

Not sure Marie, the 'sludge' is surely just geletine, but without sugar, as far as I'm aware geletine has very little fat, so I'm unsure as to whether it would be unhealthy.

The pastry will be very fattening, whilst the pork bit will no doubt be made of reconstituted meat and will have all sorts in there - making that unhealthy too.

Brussel Sprouts v Snot.

I know which one I'd rather go for!!!

How do ya fancy opening up a posh sandwich shop Ben?  We'd make a mint.  We could deliver, I'm sure Sonic would make lots of orders.

My ideal parcel would be:

NEW TOWN SHIRT
Pork pies
Sausage Rolls
PG Tips
Stella Artois (Which cannot be found in thailand)
My mummy
Scotch Eggs
DVD's of british comedy TV!!!!!!!

That's all I can think of for now.

Well Mr Bangkok Red, maybe we can have a whip round and get hols of all these and send them out to you.

Do you imagine your mummy will mind being boxed up?  Of course with her being boxed up with the food stuffs, and beer the chances of getting hungry and/or thirsty quite high would most likely mean that she'd eat the food, and drink the beer.

Depends how much mummy means to you in comparison to pork pie, sausage rolls, scoth eggs and stella.

Good point, I think you'd have ta send my mummy in a different box so she don't eat my pork pies and drink my stella. Although she can wear my town short to keep her warm in the cargo hold.

We would. Although all the sandwiches I make always end up including bacon, especially at uni as it tends to be the only thing in my fridge.. mm.. bacon rocks. Made myself an awesome bacon and stilton baguette the other day.

That wasn't a dig, it merely implied that you had good taste, but were still a bit nervous when it comes to the kitchen stuff yourself.

You did say you were crap in the kitchen, and also asked if you could come to mine for dinner.

This way we can do your dinner every day, you'd be a winner.

I thought you were calling me fat.

In that case, sure. But you'll need to work on your veggie menu.

Apparently over there they all go to a bakers for a pie after the pub, rather than to the nearest kebab house.

Ozzie Kebabs are also a joy to behold.

Similar to our elephants leg in appearence but more meaty, less greasy, wrapped in a flat tortilla and then cooked in a sandwich griddle style contraption.

They actually describe them as quite healthy, don't know about that but they are one of the finest things I have ever tasted and I had a few of these bad boys sober.
