Just gonna have a shower, walk the dog (Quickly) and then on my way to pick up my lad, Sam and axs.

Hope the weather is better in Huddersfield, it's pissing it down here.

That doesn't make sense.

I'd forgotten how much I detest getting up early on Saturdays to go to some grim northern town to watch a crap game of football.

I was going to go until I saw the weather report.
Severe Gale warning and torrential rain, wind speeds in excess of 80 mph.

No thanks.

Nice Stadium Huddersfield - good Balti pies too if I remember rightly.

Have a good day and don't come back if you haven't got a point or 3 to bring with you :D

can't really expect us to pick up a win away at a team chasing the play-offs but i see what you're saying.

i'd settle for a point

I never said I expected us to win, infact the opposite but the position we are in 2 points from games against Stockport and Huddersfield isnt good enough.

a point on the road is a decent result.i'd deffo take that today.
was going to go to supermarine but cannot be arsed.just gave the dog a good run, so will have a few bets and crack open some lagers.

I would take a point, be ecstatic with 3 and would love a clean sheet.

Might be pessimistic but I cant see us getting much but so want me to be wrong.

Solid looking midfield, I am quite happy with the line up.

Not much width really looks like he will be playing it tight in midfield today, I know Timlin is left sided but I think we wont be playing with much width today, with JPM playing behind the front 2 but more biased on the right with a kinda 4-3-1-2 formation with little width.

Peacock and Timlin have been gash recently and Pook's useless, so I fail to see how that midfield constitutes solid. I'll be amazed if we nick a point.

All 3 players you discuss can get box to box and are quite strong defensively so that would make them solid for me.

Do any of them get the same amount of abuse pook gets? Non monsieur, they do not.

Jack "stand off" smith is vastly overated imo. Poor stamina, on par with ifil in the confidence fragility stakes and mildly inept defensively.

nothing around me, angry shout man doesnt come anymore and his mate just abuses McGovern.

Last game JPM takes a short corner to Jack Smith 'for fuck sake McGovern you're shit' umm what!??!

Of course, I should have realised your section of the DRS behaves just like the rest of the ground.

Do any of them get the same amount of abuse pook gets? Non monsieur, they do not.

Jack "stand off" smith is vastly overated imo. Poor stamina, on par with ifil in the confidence fragility stakes and mildly inept defensively.

Fair enough mon fils-but I dont agree. Peacs Timlin and Ifil have had dog's abuse on here and conversely Pook gets practically nil.Take your point about Smith but by general concensus he's been one of our most consistent players so far. That's opinions for you!

Sounds like bollox from the radio commentary.
Looks like bollox from a mate at the game.

My opinion:
Shit defence. Amankwha, Casal and Kanyuka can fuck off
Shit midfield. You don't go anywhere with Pook and Peacock as your best central midfield two. Timlin and Easton have been turd. Nalis is best before 2008.
Only one goal scoring striker who seems to be lacking in any confidence whatsoever.

Other than that a total lack of confidence or fight. Hooray.

wilson makes a good point that if we're to get loan players in, which is cheaper, that there's no point doing it until nhext week, because they'd waste being here as we have no game for 10 days. I expect this week to be fairly active.

Very hard to change players mentality let alone ability, when the vast majority are shite.

The board have been in denial for sometime that we're in serious trouble.Watkins only the

week before Wilson joined, made a long statement saying that we had a "great squad" and

needed a manager who coulde organise and motivate. They weren't honest with Wilson as

to the extent of our problems.

Sounds like Salisbury had a hot reception when they came back to the dressing room.

To the board, we need signings now. We need 2 new full backs and a central defender. This side has no balance, too many sheep, bad mentality, we are going down unless you get your fingers out and sign some decent defensive players.

Our shambles at the back has gone on long enough.

I doubt they have that much disposable £ to piss into the club.

At least Cox has managed to score. If he hadn't missed a hatful of chances recently we'd have picked up more points. Of course, you cannot rely on one player and most of the team has been shit.

But it'll be good if he gets back to his goalscoring ways as soon as possible, hopefully this is the start of the more confident performances we're used to seeing.

As for the rest of the team. Oh dear. Wilson has got lots of work to, I'm sure he knew how bad we were before we came here.

Well I went to watch 4th placed Swindon Supermarine against Merthyr Tydville (sp?).

A game played in difficult conditions ended in a 0-0 draw, though the home side had 5 very good opportunities to score against the team 1 league place above them.

Also, Swindon Supermarine had a drum and it made for a cracking atmosphere. :)

We're now in exactly the same position points wise as we we were in 05/06...of course we went down...then the only team below were MKD managed by Danny Wilson.

I think our team then was better than the current shower of shit...the sale of Falllon fucked us though.

D.W. actually said we weren't good enough, no complaints with the result (i.e., we were shit).  Brez and Amanka singled out for praise.  Believes some of the younger players need to be rested for a game or two.  Believes one or two new faces will lift the club.

If he took almost an hour to appear from the dressing room, he must have had a slightly different version for the press.  Indicated players are playing with fear (the Malpas influence IMO).

He indicated that everyone has an opinion and that not all opinions are necessarily equal.

In a court of law, second or third hand opinions are hearsay and have little or no weight.

The commentators comments as well as D.W.'s were convincing that we were poor until the sending off and then we played better getting the ball down.  By then the game was lost, so no reason to be fearful.

Title: Re: Official Uddersfeeled Matchday Thread
Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, January 17, 2009, 18:39:12
apart from that he praised Amankwaah. He is one of the worst full backs I have ever seen (Casal is even worse). He cant head the ball, he cant tackle, he cant play offside. He can dribble a bit, but his control is still pretty crap. Just a total reject.

Yeah Timlin was having a few mares, but he was there for a reason, and that reason is that we dont have full backs who are up to it. Even Jack Smith, hes not the first player that needs replacing by a long way, but he isnt a good player either.

I knew we would miss Commingues. What I didnt realise was that it wouldnt be his runs and crosses that we would miss, but his passion and spirit. He must have squared up to other players about 4 times last season, cant remmember seeing that at all this season.

I knew we would miss Commingues. What I didnt realise was that it wouldnt be his runs and crosses that we would miss, but his passion and spirit.

I agree, and despite the amount he divided opinions, Roberts temperament and unpredictability made him the sort of player we could really use in the midfield at the moment. The fact he had pace helped too. There's no real energy about us now, I'd say our most potent player going forward (other than Cox) has been Jack Smith. Quite worrying considering he's supposed to be a defender.

Wilson's only been here 5 minutes and I don't think we should under estimate the damage Malpas caused us. Set pieces have improved, that was definitely one key factor in our shitness. I hope that other things will follow when Wilson gets the team working on them. He does need to make his mind up on his starting eleven though, we're getting back into the Malpas trap. Is Wilson taking too much of Byrne's advice? Is Byrne actually Grima Wormtongue?

Motherwell were suffering from the damage Malpas did to them for while as well. We need a total shake up including probably letting the goalkeeping coach and Ady go. then bring in some fresh blood. It seems as Fitton is reluctant to pay agents fees etc which makes good business sense, it is scuppering any sort of deals and players wont come here.

Title: Re: Official Uddersfeeled Matchday Thread

no good letting the keeper coach and ady go (no matter how piss poor they are) if we wont splash out for replacements.

Of course paying off Malpas would have taken a chunk out the budget, we're probably still paying Roberts something as well.

I think we'd be better off on the pitch, no so sure about off the pitch.

Power was only 'in charge' for a few weeks but managed to get in a high profile coaching team (Wise, Poyet, Beasley) and we signed loads of new players alot of frees but decent players. We must have offered some of them better contracts than other teams did.

Of course if Power did keep going down this route it would be great short term but the minute he got bored and decided he had, had enough he would have left us with loses we couldnt cope with.

He would have funded the team but not made us sustainable, he would have just accepted the yearly losses and paid them making us rely purely on Bill Power.

Fitton seems so far the complete opposite - he has safe guarded our future and you'd hope if he and his consortium buggered off in a few years they would have left us in a good financial state but thus far they havent put much, or rather enough money towards the on pitch things. Could have spent more and got in a better manager, should have backed him and let him bring in his own coaches. Could have offered better contracts in order to tempt players to come here.

Both have their plus points and both have their negative. At this moment its all a bit of an assumption on how things would have/will go.

Ideally you want financial stability but with the potential financial clout we have behind us (I dont expect them all to spend million after million on us) we should be spending more on the playing side of things than we have because its clear to see our on the pitch fortunes are going rapidly backwards.

do you think we'd have been better off arriba?

Bill Power was brilliant.

Without him comming in we would probably never have got rid of the old board.

But he wouldnt have been able to keep it up. The bloke had a bit of cash, but not a lot he wouldnt have been able to keep it up for long.

As regards the new board, its got to be constructive criticism. I dont think Fitton is really a football man. He likes football, but he doesnt know about it as much as he thinks he does. A Hungerford mate told me he used to do a Hungerford team talk before their home games, he would then leave and the manager would say 'right, forget all of that bollocks'. Malpas was that sort of gaffe. He ticked all the boxes in Fittons mind, but it didnt stop him being crap. They are getting a dose of reality now, which maybe they needed?

i dont know dv. i agree with alot of what you say to a point.
i reckon we'd be fucked if fitton went, same as if power did though had he got control.
it would still need someone to take over.i reckon power might well have left a better aquisition than fitton.
at the end of the day it's a football club, and the product is the team.at the moment that is utter shite.
ias it stands, our financial stablilty is boring

To be honest I think we could see a board room split.

From what I gather Fitton will stay true to his principles. He wont pay agents, he wants a business plan, he wants youth he was the one who kept Malpas on. But Watkins is getting a bit pissed off with the lack of progress. Cant be nice sending so many people home unhappy week after week.

This clubs future has and always hinges on the stadium development. I don't think Bill Power would have done anything different to Fitton, but he was good because he was a very fan orientated man.

In my opinion the Board have cut their losses for this season. They'll want Wilson to keep us up and sort the organisation of the team out. Once that's done I think they will back him with more money. That's simply my gut feeling though.

I don't think the problem is about Fitton not paying agents fees. Last season when the Football League published the agents fees for the Football League teams there were clubs like Blackpool and Huddersfield, who didn't spend a penny on agents fees, yet they seem to bring in good enough players.

We need players now if we want to stay up, and to start a radical overhaul of the team.

People say its difficult to buy in january, but thats more for players moving up the football league pyramid. We rely on players comming the other way and Championship and Prem clubs are quite keen to trim squads in january because it is clear who is really needed.

The january window is also much shorter. We were linked with loads of players in the summer, who simply waited and got their agents to get them a better deal.

Cox was a classic example of what can be done in january.

Its not looking good. There are hardly any rumours, its all gone deadly quiet.

Well, Ifil and Brez basically played Huddersfield on their own in the first half.  Pat Kan can't, simple as that.  All he did was control the ball for them and then let them go on their way.

Our midfield is a disgrace, 1st half I hardly recall Peacock, Timlin and Pook touching the ball at all.  JPM at least managed to get hold of the ball but then proceeded to give it away every single time.

2nd half we didn't improve until Pat was sent off - which I was fuming about by the way, he should be fined a good 2 or 3 weeks wages for that because he gave the ref no way out other than showing the red.  It was a stupid tug and would be a red 100% of the time, even a Utd player at Old Trafford.

Still, since the red we did get a little better and on the showing he gave Sturrock would be the first name on the teamsheet for me next time out, his movement completely changed the way we approached the game and all of a sudden we could find a red shirt.

Not many positives to take from that exept for me Brez looks closer to his best and looked confident out there.  Obviously Cox getting one is good news and hopefully he'll go on another run now.

Squad assessment - Need 1 new CB, prob a LB, absolute must is 2 new CMs and we deffo need another striker.  Survival will be a big ask as it is and the 2nd half of January will ulimately decide our season I think.

Sturrock was only on for 15 mins ish.

Thought Ifil was great in comparison to his defensive colleagues and brez was good first half, couldn't see their goals well from the other end.

Ifil played well on tuesday, fingers crossed Wilson is another manager he will flourish under instead of floundering.

For me the players to keep are Cox, Ifil, Brezovan, J Smith, Easton, Peacock, Timlin, C Allen, Paynter, McNamee, Morrison and B Corr (just because ok).

But there is a massive list of players who have to go. McGovern, Casal, Amankwaah, Aljofree, Vincent, P Smith, Nalis, Kanyuka, Sturrock, Pook, Marshall.

The other youth players need to be trimmed down, but that is for Bodin and Byrne to decide.

Brez - Probably his best game of the season (Which isn't saying much, although he looked good)

Amankwah - Shite, absolutely shocking.
Ifil - My man of the match. First half he was our only defender.

Kanuyka - See Amankwah.

J.Smith - The turning circle of an articulated truck. Slow, can't tackle.

JPM - Saw more of the ball than the rest of the midfield, did fuck all with it.

Pook - Back to his normal self. (By which I mean he ws poor)

Peacock - Needs to bleach his hair again, so we know he's playing. Did fuck all.

Timlin - Another poor game.

Paynter - Did nothing. The sooner we get another target man, the better.

Cox - Scored a good goal, apart from that was his usual whinging, diving, petulant self.

Subs.

Easton - Fitted seamlessly into our midfield, ie was invisible.

McNamee - Frustrating. Runs into trouble all the time and holds onto the ball for too long.

Sturrock - I'd like to see him in midfield. He's an intelligent player. He just can't shoot!

Overall, a piss poor performance which must show DW he needs to overhaul the squad in the summer (Don't think much will change this month).

Relegation fight for the rest of the season.

Shit players = Shite team= shit performances=shit results=shite crowds=shit atmosphere.

Stats show that this side is as bad as 05/06...a side which had the dubious record of longest  run of defeats in the club's history...and the worst single game defeat scoreline for Div 3 since its creation in 58.

Some of the personnel are the same...Ifil, Pook and Jack Smith. Lee Peacock for the latter part of that season.

Wilson now has just about a fortnight to do some firefighting...tbf he did imply on the radio yesterday that he realises the bleeding obvious and matters are in hand. I'd expect a couple of loans coming in....

I'm afraid so. We couldn't have complained if we lost bt 4 or 5. The only thing that saved us was Huddersfield's poor finishing and Brez's saves (He made 5).

It was a miracle that at halftime it was 0-0, although we all knew it was only a matter of time.
Appalling is the best word to sum up yesterday.

I can't be bothered to read 22 pages, but this is what i saw of the players yesterday:

Brez - Played well, apart from one little wander he had in the second half. Made some good saves, could do nothing about the goals.

J.Smith - Did nothing defensively and little attacking. Let Roberts cut inside time and again, and if Roberts had a right foot we would have lost by 5.

Ifil - Looked like he was getting back to his best, sweeped up well. Can't complain with his performance because at times he was the only one.

Kanyuka - Looked abysmal, but on the very odd occasion he dealt with the ball well. He seemed to give a few free kicks away going up for the high ball too, whether they were or not I don't know. Out of position for the sending off too.

Amankwaah - Personally i thought he didn't have a bad game, dealt with that fat boy on the right well, and we looked stronger at the back when he moved to Centre Half.

Timlin - meh, nothing game. Gone done for pace a few times. Didn't really notice him.

Peacock - I can't actually remember him being on the ball or making a tackle - but i do remember seeing him running onto the pitch so i'm not really sure whether he played in truth.

Pook - Shit. I'm sorry, for the all the praise he's got previously through the season today he totally undone it with that performance. Shit on the ball, positioning was crap.

McGovern - Tried his best going forward. Tried to help deal with Roberts but neither Smith or Pook/Peacock stopped him from going inside so he was wasted today. When we got the ball down it went through him.

Paynter -  Shit service to him. When we did play it on the ground or when he held it up we looked ok, and it ended up going down our right. People get on his back for being a shit target man, but he's only as shit at the service he got today.

Cox - Came much deeper i thought because of the shit service. Took his goal well, and in truth had another chance from a corner which fell to him. Didn't do anything wrong, but not much else right bar the goal.

Subs:

Collectively they made us look a better side going forward as we moved the ball on the deck. Macca popped up and got into decent positions to get crosses in despite half of them not gettin past his marker which was disappointing to be fair.
You could actually notice we had a centre midfielder on the field when Easton was on, he should have started. Closed them down, gave a couple free kicks away but at least he showed something plus we were "chasing" the game by then.
Sturrock ran the channels well, held the ball up well and got into good positions. Can't complain was our biggest threat. Unlucky with his header as well, had the keeper beat.

How sad, but you know what my big hope is?

Its that last season when the fans started to go mental and say 'look if you dont pull your socks up we will be relegated' they did, and we got a few results. The squad is a worse than last season. Im sure the players think there is more in the tank, but we shall see.

For me. I think half of them are shit. This cannot be allowed to go on another season. If you dont want to give 100% then FUCK OFF FUCK OFF AND FUCK OFF YOU again.

I REPEAT IF WE SURVIVE THEN HALF THE SQUAD HAVE TO GO. You cannot keep on at the bottom half every season in the football league, the drop will get you in the end.

The difference between Swindon & Huddersfield.
Lee Clark was qouted in the press on Saturday as saying at his interview that he would only accept the job if he could bring in his own coaching staff, which he did.
Fitton appoints DW,which (in my opinion) was on the proviso that he worked with the present coaching team, that being the cheap option.
The result being Huddersfield are winnning whilst we are not.

God I hate it when people feel the need to point out something is their opinion, as if it somehow adds validity to what they are saying. Especially when it's used as a replacement for backing up why someone thinks something. It's like there's a belief that because it's an opinion, it's automatically equal to everybody elses. Not all opinions are equal, they're only as good as the reasons you've come to them, and the knowledge you have on the subject.

Unless of course it's possible that a post could be misinterpreted as being the views of someone else. I suppose that's a fair enough use.

That's just my opinion, of course.

Bear in mind the size of the squad we have already, I'm sure that DW wants to move some out of the squad to make space, we don't know where the wage bill is at, he may not have a lot to work with.

I'm sure that he will get players in on loan though, and if he can move out some of our non performers then he may have space for permanent additions.

Surely Supermarine will take Pook now rather than waiting until the end of the season ?!

he could be right, he could be wrong. I doubt we'll ever know and of course this has come up before and I'll ask the question again.

Why would Fitton be so loyal to Dave Byrne and Adie Williams of all people?!

Why would he insist those two stay around. Byrne might be amazingly good at his job but then if he was, Wilson would see this anyway and keep him on.

Unless of course the decision is purely a financial one. In which cases it makes sense if we dont want to pay off Byrne & Williams plus paying new guys on top of that.

I think we've had enough proof this season that he actually isn't

I know the cliche is that we all see a different game but here's my 2 pence worth.

Initially I thought Amankwah had a rubbish game but on reflection Danny (cunt) Cadamertaree (or whatever he is called) didn't do anything all game so he can't have been that bad.

I still can't work out whether Jerel was fucking ace or just looked good next to 50p Pat, Coxy took his goal well but had fuck all service, Sturrock was, once again, fantastic - but he can't score for toffee.

We were fucking toss and the final scoreline flattered us greatly. I would have been pleased with 4 - 0.

Wilson is probably waiting to see what happens with Williams before deciding who he can bring in.

Didn't Wilson say something along the lines of realising a big job needed doing so he was sorting out the backroom further down the line, giving them all a chance to prove their worth and at the same time meaning he could concentrate on the playing side for now.

But he probably had to say that, otherwise fitton wouldn't have given him the job, and maybe even poisoned his tea.

Dell Boys' favourite hostile poster!  ?? under your avatar how long has that been on there?

A few weeks, you even commented on it before! ???

Surely you remember the "your posts come across very hostile" comment!

Was I the person Reg was referring too when he said you had a stalker then?  Bless!  He could have PM'd me too!

Does it upset you Dell? If so I will remove it.  :D

Just seen the highlights-One moment of magic from McNamee and we could have had an undeserved share of the spoils.

Do you mean the cross for Sturrocks header off the post?

I thought the highlights made us look like we made a better go of it than it sounded on the day tbh.

According to those, if we keep on playing the highlights as we did on Saturday we will have no problems. ;D

It's only in the last couple of weeks I can actually remember what I've said, my life before that is a complete blur.

the goals conceeded on saturday looked an embarrasment.from the footage it looks to me that not all players were giving their all-ie not pressing down the player on the ball leading to crosses and shots.that is unexcusable and is worrying as it looks like wilson cannot lift the players and motivate them enough.maybe the players just aint good enough?or their confidence is shot to peices? i have no idea but we need to get better for sure.

To be fair Arriba, Hudds were all over us and could have scored any time.

Ive just watched the highlights, yes its took me a while.

dont know if anyone has brought kanyukas red card in the view i have, which is he wasnt denying a goal scoring opportunity 'cause kevin amankwaah was the last man (at the instant of the foul)and was coming across to cover PK. from where i see it KA would have either made a tackle, or put enough pressure on their striker to deny a goal anyway.

if it was on MOTD im sure they would have had a nice little moan and put arrows on the screen.

the ref had a shocker anyway,so it doesnt surprise me he got this wrong aswell.

One of the advantages to having 13,000 home fans. No matter what refs say it does sway their decisions.
