Title: If you report someone on eBay...
Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, January 15, 2009, 14:39:35
For selling hooky goods, is it done anonymously? i.e. will the seller know I reported them?

Reason being, some scammer sold me a Lyle & Scott shirt which turns out to be fake. I've started a claim through PayPal for my money back but I want to report the little scamming bastard as well so that he can't make any more money from his little counterfeit enterprise, but without him knowing it was me.

youd be suprised how little Ebay seem to do - I think I may have mentioned this before but my boyfriend left someone bad feedback as they guy took 2 weeks to send out the product and he left a horrible message on our answerphone threatening us and calling us C you next Tuesdays etc

Ebay were the ones that gave out our home tel no and they never banned him or anything - just glad it was us not some old lady or something

I've never bought anyhting off ebay and never will due to the very reason.

I like to buy from a shop. People buy off ebay as they want the cheap option usually, and you get what you pay for.

Ebay has its uses. Like buying cheap guitar hero clips for the DS. You know what you are getting.

Branded goods, never! Buyer beware (sorry Sam, not being helpful)

How much did you pay Sam? If it was £20-odd quid I'd just have done with it personally, any more and I'd pursue it.

I made the mistake 3 years ago and bought an Xbox 360 with lots of bits and pieces.  Paid just over £400 and like a complete tool transferred the money direct to the arseholes bank....

Never received it - reported it to ebay first who were not at all interested - although they did eventually ban the guy - I did a bit of ebay digging and found his address and postcode and phone number - went to the police and reported it.  Cut a long story short after 6 months (and no xbox or money) I received a call from the police saying it really wasn't worth their effort bringing the bloke to court - the money involved was just not enough.

I was advised that the ONLY way to get my money back (even if police took him to court I would be out of pocket) was to take the scumbag to small claims court - and IF I lost the case I would end up paying for his legal costs, time off work etc...

Basically the copper told me to forget it and put it down to experience....

Tosser !

He was "known to the police" and lived in Leyton in London - I thought about it but it crossed my mind that I could take a couple of mates and knock on the door - and some huge fella with a knife answered it - to be honest I thought £400 probably wasn't worth it on reflection.....

£15 for L&S, should've been pretty obvious it wasn't the real deal!

I bought 6 Madonna Gold circle tickets for 800 quid, paid through paypal and they never materialised.  Figured I could claim back through Paypal but because more than 3 months had passed between buying the tickets and reporting it they weren't interested.  No prblem I thought I'll claim it back throught he credit card company only to discover my missus had complained about me using the credit card so i had used the debit card instead.

Found the sellers home address, did a small claim online and am now receiving the money at £100 a month until September

How do you know if it's fake?

Title: Re: If you report someone on eBay...

i've done the oposite.

brought something in Nov. 3 weeks later and no replys to emails i put a claim in with Paypal to get money back.

Basically 2 weeks ago the item was deliverd without needing proof of postage so i left the Paypal claim. Got an email yesterday saying we're getting our money back.

that'll learn the little shit to not post goods on time

How do you know if it's fake?

Because I have an authentic one and the differences, although subtle, are noticable.

I've brought loads of cd's/dvd's off e-bay at cheaper prices than amazon/play etc and never had a problem. I'm not fussed if someone's already watched/listened to it.

But generally if it's too cheap then there is a reason why. And buy from people with good feedback etc. It doesn't always guarantee but got 500+ feedback now with not 1 problem.

And your details are easily accessible by the seller, they need them in the first place to send you the goods. They may not get banned for just one item not sent either, e-bay don't like banning people unless they are persistent offenders as it's lost business for them.

You would have more joy calling or contacting the brand name with his user ID and it's likely they would have his account shut sharpish.

I had a massive problem selling legit designer gear a few years ago imported directly from the label and due to the volume of fake goods designer labels will often get all auctions closed down on ebay legit or not.

It's called the vero program and there's very little right to reply or appeal legit or not.

I got my money back off the scammer. He even included the cost of the postage. How very nice of him.

Now I've got my money back I've reported the cunt to eBay for selling counterfeit goods :)

Haha alright then. I'll accept that when you wear it to play golf and not when you're out on the beers.

That isn't the case though is it David?

why not just order them from a online shop? surely ebay wouldnt be that much cheaper and u have no worry of being stitched up

That makes me think that email isn't from eBay and is some kind of scam. If he paid by PayPal then he should be able to claim it back.
