Title: worldnet
Post by: Bennett on Sunday, January 4, 2009, 20:53:30
hello

in the interest of playing more football, shedding some pounds and finding my long lost touch i'm going to try to organise some 5 a side games in the hope that we can all learn to play with one another (ohhh errrr).

can you please let me know if you're based in swindon and interested?

donkey did give me email addresses but this is way easier, ta in advance

Me and Pete are in definitely. Thats the only problem with worldnet really... We only see each other once a year.

On another note, I'm gonna contact the club soon about hiring out a full set of kits, hopefully home and away. Last year Ben Lambert was excellent with it really last minute so I'm hoping Adam will be just as helpful. Gazza if you're reading this, maybe you could help out? I know you speak to him a bit.

Post by: Sippo on Monday, January 5, 2009, 08:40:19
I'm not sure about the main thing actually come to think of it. If its before the wedding it'll be a no, but def up for the 5 a side thing.

Surely we should only be offering this to those who've paid up first and then open it up if we need extra players?

same here, i've paid the deposit

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: donkey on Monday, January 5, 2009, 23:16:31
My list of who have paid the deposit is...

Me
Two people you don't know
Nemo
DV
Samdy Gray
Si Pie
Crouchie (occaisional poster)
Bennett
Tails and his mate Peter

According to my list Rich Pullen, DRS and Sonic Youth have expressed interest and not paid.

As for what you do, I would suggest that you start with those who've paid, then those interested but not paid, then any others needed to make up numbers.  Of course, you can do what you want, clearly.

Post by: Tails on Monday, January 5, 2009, 23:17:39
Sorry I did mean deposit.

That's OK then, more than I thought. I reckon we might win a few games this year!

I'm sure DV will get us doing some kind of pre-tournament training.

Title: Re: worldnet

if he ever organises it...

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: Tails on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 08:54:23
The pre-tournament training is the cheap beer in the student bar and listening to the Watford / Portsmouth / Grimsby / whoever elses fans sing really random songs about piano's....

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: DV on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 12:06:49
You wish.

We'll be running 5 miles a night easy by the end of Feb!

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 12:40:59
I did about 2 miles last night so 5 by the end of Feb should be easily achievable.

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: Tails on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 13:07:36
I've already walked over 5 miles since the year began so I'm safe I think.

fancy a kebab and a pint to celebrate Sam?

With petrol at 83p a litre why bother running?

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: DV on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 13:13:40
Dont do too much running though Sam!

Your body will get used to going going at a steady pace for long periods, you'll be fucked playing footy because its all stop start short sprinting bursts.

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: Tails on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 13:15:32
First you tell us to run, then you tell us not to run!

DV OUT!

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: Batch on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 13:16:54
That's right, run, don't run, run, don't run. Interval training.

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: DV on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 13:17:37
no, still run....

Just change the pace, sprint a bit, jog a bit, sprint a bit, etc etc

Title: Re: worldnet

I'm going to model my game on Blair Sturrock's. Run around a lot but be rubbish at football.

Title: Re: worldnet
Post by: herthab on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 13:19:31
That's what I used to do: Short sprint, followed by short brisk walk, followed by short jog, then repeat and repeat and repeat............

I'm going to model my game on Blair Sturrock's, Lee Peacock, Craig Easton, Barry Corr, Mark Marshall, Micheal Pook, JP McGovern, Hasney Aljofree, Yinka Casal's. Run around a lot but be rubbish at football.

I know. I'm just doing some basic conditioning training at the moment to shift the xmas bulge and regain my fitness. I'm going to start my main training programme in a few weeks which'll consist of jogging, interval training and circuit training.

Thats what we do anyway, although most of the squad (well, the ones over 30) struggle to run. So we waddle around a lot and are rubbish at football.. A bit like Trevor Benjamin.

Don't worry Bennett, some of the others are cereal offenders, they'll pay, but I usually need to threaten violence.  We should have a decent sized squad...but with only 11 players, it is fucking knackering, as you need to be fully focussed for the whole game, you can never relax.  A few years ago, when we only had 10 players for the Sunday, a waiter from a restaurant we met on Saturday night played...good lad.  We do what we need to do to get by.

Yeah, but what about ricicles...for the love of me I can't tell the difference, from rice crispies...so they're shit too...unless of course you cover them in chocolate and put them in those little paper cake cup things.

Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 12:44:32
Given that Deev and Bennett couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery, I think it's best if someone else organises this. I'm happy to do so (unless someone else has a Swindon card and really wants to).

I have the day off on Friday. If enough interest is shown by then I will get a Swindon card. Unfortunately I'm not about for the first couple of weeks in February, but after that a regular game (one day a week) would be splendidio.

Can all those interested please post which evenings they are available on. I don't mind if people who are not in the actual Worldnet thing want to play, but obviously the whole point is for Worldnet, so preference will be given to Worldnet players.
