Luckily, the grandparents missed it. My friends then decided not to draw attention to it and the phrase was quickly forgotten/dropped from their little boy's vocabulary.

We explain, vaguely, why the words are seen as bad, suggest she shouldn't use them until she really understands what they mean and when they can be used. To her credit, she's 8 1/2 now and not to my knowledge ever repeated them around me. That's something, because my tongue is pretty loose. Then again, although I swear in normal conversation now, I never swore in front of my parents until I was 18ish. Bastards was the word and it was when my Mum greeted me at the front door with the news that Spurs had been let off their point penalty for doing worse than we had for our demotion.
