Title: Rats in my decking Post by: chalkies_shorts on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:10:25 I've just found out I've got rats in my decking - big buggers. I'd lose if I tried to arm wrestle them out so has anyone got any ideas. I could put down the poison but the blooody things will just rot and stink. Their in and out points aren't big enough to send a terrier down.
As UB 40 sang "Got a rat in me deckin' what am i gonna do". Any ideas welcomed. Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: JPC82 on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:11:18 rat traps?

Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: chalkies_shorts on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:14:19 I did think of that but I didn't know of his kettle was big enough. 1 rat = 20 mice. Fred - are you available for hire?

Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: leefer on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:17:09 Pay out and get a professional pest catcher in Chalkie...will save you lots of hassle and maybe money in the long run.
Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: yeo on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:17:15 Id ring the Council they'll do it properly.
I'm terrified of rats. Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:18:39 I used to see rats quite a lot around the halls at uni. Southampton has quite a big problem with rats. Was fairly disgusting really.

Fred - are you available for hire? I can borrow a tea urn if that is any help ? Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:20:09 Id ring the Council they'll do it properly. I'm terrified of rats. I'm paranoid when putting the rubbish out at night at work, that a rat the size of a small dog is waiting just the other side of the bin lid to attack me. Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: chalkies_shorts on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:21:07 My wife seems to think I should do it. I'm more than happy to pay out. I don't fancy my chances. I got rid of mice I had in my house but these buggers are different league. Thanks for the link Sie Pie -I'll have a look.
I did think of asking a family of Scousers around for a barbecue and tell them I'd ran out of meat. Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: yeo on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:21:16 My biggest fear is one coming round the u bend when im having a poo.Ive seen it happen on telly and never been able to relax on the toilet since then.

Was fairly disgusting really. It's being a port and that...how the Black Death came into Britain. Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: leefer on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:34:39 Incidently Highworth was nearly totally wiped out by the Black Death...thats when Highworth was twice the size of Swindon.

Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: dell boy on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:45:00 A couple of Dalmations will sort them out in no-time.
Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: JPC82 on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:45:41 A couple of Dalmations will sort them out in no-time. its 101 dalmations mate Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: sean1970 on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:51:46 The council charge about £30 for a pest controller to come out, but he will probably just put some bait/poison down for them. Cost does not include removal of dead ones. Rat traps cost about £12 for 2 in homebase and its alot quicker.
Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: leefer on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:53:30 Do they come with the cheeze Sean?
Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: dell boy on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:54:08 its 101 dalmations mate One would be enough, two just to get the job done quicker ... they are ace rat catchers. 101 good film, but give those rats a sporting chance, that many Dals would make a lot of shit. Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: JPC82 on Friday, January 2, 2009, 20:55:06 if 2 is quicker than 1, surely 101 of the fuckers would be fucking instant!

Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: Miss Angry on Friday, January 2, 2009, 21:17:42 A friend of mine moved into a house and found rats, im pretty sure when she called the council they were really helpfull and did follow ups etc because of the problem in Swindon... all included in the price, i could be wrong though but worth checking them out.
At work this morning i saw the biggest bastard, we thought it was a rabbit! The big dustbin man let out a rather loud n girly squeek then refused to empty any more bins, he made his mate do it. It was funny at the time but i wont be going out there again any time soon.... wont be eating anything from the indian either as it went straight up into thier bin which is right next to thier kitchen door they have open all the time. Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: @MacPhlea on Friday, January 2, 2009, 21:20:37 A few tinnies of pedigree chum and an afternoon with my ratting rifle and I'll clear out the majority of them... Get loads of them round my way...
Title: Re: Rats in my decking Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 2, 2009, 21:21:39 There's lots of rats up on Fleming Way too. On a wet day they'll come out of their holes on the banked bit and scurry up to the pavement.

Just put it all down and blocked their escape holes and bricked them in. I'll leave it a few days and then investigate. Hopefully I won't need Fred's tea urn or borrow anyone's dalamtions or Triseros ratting rifle which presumably is used more in the country than a semi in Stratton.
I'm gonna fix that rat. |
