Title: Re: Murray Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, January 2, 2009, 18:27:56 Abu Dhabi has to be one of the most satisfying place names to say. Tegucigalpa being another. I like Eskilstuna in Sweden. Title: Re: Murray Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, January 2, 2009, 18:41:40 Present
Title: Re: Murray Post by: Ardiles on Friday, January 2, 2009, 18:50:57 Abu Dhabi has to be one of the most satisfying place names to say. Tegucigalpa being another. But the best name ever (in my view, at any rate) is a little closer to home in East Yorkshire. Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor is a tiny village (and ex-RAF station) between York and Hull. I drove past there years ago and fell in love with the name there & then. Title: Re: Murray Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, January 2, 2009, 18:52:52 There's some cracking village names across these Isles... Quite a few up here.
Title: Re: Murray Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, January 2, 2009, 18:56:53 Westward Ho! is the best name in the world

Title: Re: Murray Post by: leefer on Friday, January 2, 2009, 19:10:34 I drive through Duntish sometimes...its in Dorset and for me its always tempting to shave a tad off the righthand side of the D when driving past the Welcome to Duntish sign.
Title: Re: Murray Post by: JPC82 on Friday, January 2, 2009, 19:13:04 shave it?
Title: Re: Murray Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, January 2, 2009, 19:13:33 There's a village down the road called Fulking. Always makes me smile when I drive through it. Sad I know. I used to venture into Sussex when I lived on the South Coast, and always had a smile at Didling and Cocking. Title: Re: Murray Post by: Lumps on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 00:01:25 Locally to me in South Yorkshire I've always liked:
Peniston, and Blubberhouses Whereas I'm not keen on: Carsick, and Deepsick Title: Re: Murray Post by: Foggy on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 08:42:02 I live near Wilsford Cum Lake and Upper Backway.
Title: Re: Murray Post by: Lumps on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 09:12:21 I've always been slightly frightened of:
Thurgoland which despite being between Sheffield and Barnsley always makes me think of somewhere that would be visited by a small group of explorers led by Doug Mclure in a 60's adventure film losely based on a novel by Jules Verne or Edgar Rice Burroughs. I'm not sure what a Thurgo is but I'm imagining something like the Morlocks in the original 1960's version of The Time Machine. Title: Re: Murray Post by: THE FLASH on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 09:30:22 Sandy Balls near Fordingbridge........

Tollpuddle (of martyr fame) Affpuddle Puddleton and just up the road there's Troy Town. Title: Re: Murray aka amusing place names Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 19:07:55 Yatton Keynell (where my mum hails from) always gets a weird reaction when I mention that name. Yatton K is connected to Tiddlywink and not too far away from the village/hamlet/whatever of Shoe.
