Title: New Years Resies
Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, January 1, 2009, 14:02:43
I'm mildly surprised that we haven't had a resolutions thread, or maybe I've been too blind to notice it.

I never used to make any resolutions, mainly because in doing so I'd realise what an unsatisfying and miserable life I really do lead. However this year I've done the complete opposite and made what I consider to be many. It will be interesting to see if I can stick to most of them:

  • Give up smoking - should be fairly easy.
  • Read more books (novels) - should be the easiest one as I haven't read a single novel in 2008, very unusual for me as I normally read loads.
  • Get into shape - the classic NY resolution, but I do miss going to the gym.
  • Learn some electric blues guitar - practice should be golden.
  • Pass my remaining exams first time so I can finally be done with them by the end of the year - this will be tough but achievable if I put in enough work
  • Pay off my overdraft/credit cards - this will probably be the hardest one, but given the additional time spent doing the other resolutions, should mean I spend less money going out.

What's everyone elses resolutions for 2009? Do you even bother?

- Pay off the credit cards. Should be achievable by Feb if I get the bonus I'm expecting.
- At least 60 minutes of exercise per day.

- Drink less
- Exercise more
- Be more responsible with money
- Don't swear as much (mainly because there is a kid coming so....)

Are you going to be a Daddy?

I don't really see the point in new years ressies manly because you're waiting for a specific date to start, give up or change something that if you really wanted to do you'd have done already!

I'd agree with that, never made one in my life..nevertheless if people want to use the tradition as a way of affecting change...why not?

There's the crux of it though, if you don't put a specific date on it then you don't ever do it. I agree the 1st January in terms of when to ido something is a bit of a cliche but it does make sense.

If you want do other things like make words bold or italic or underline them, an easy way is to hit the 'reply' button and then highlight the words you want to format and then there are buttons underneath where the smilies are you can click to make that world bold etc.

If you're unsure whether you've done it properly you can always hit the preview button to preview your post before you submit (post) it.

There's also a good guide in the 'Help' section at the top menu bit (the black bar above the red banner):

1. get back into shape, I know most would look at me and think im out of shape but by my usual standards I am. What with being out of work for 5 months I had to cut back the old 5/6 a sides as they cost about £4 a go. I used to play between 4 and 7 games a week. I used to be able to play 3 in one day and not feel. I played once the other week and was knackered afterwards

2. get a house, seems a good time to buy and im 24 this year so about time i got my own house

I was going to go and see them at Gateshead today, but the Metro was closed and I couldn't be bothered to walk! I've been to Blyth (ghost town!) but haven't been to the ground yet.

Lots of decent Non-League clubs up here.

My ex uncle in law, I know there's no such thing, but you get the picture, used to be harbour master in Blyth...he traded it for a similar position in Salcombe..think he got the best of the deal.

A true nautical cove..he used to like it when I went to stay, because it gave him a good excuse to go out on the lash, and leave the ladies to do their stuff. The harbour master tends to be popular in these places.

To buy more vinyl to add to the collection...........mind that's been a NYR for longer than I care to remember and one I always seem to be able to follow.

Not get so frustrated when watching the Town play........fat chance I suppose.

And on the real fantasy side get all six numbers on the lottery, so I can stop being a wage slave.

To put some weight on!

Sounds stupid, but I am quite a bit underweight and should really sort it out! It's not that I don't eat enough, I'm just stick thin! Going to take some work but hopefully I'll manage it!

Save some money - I'm good at spending but not so good at saving unless I have a target to reach.

Get back into the fitness routine - been too busy at work to sort something properly out and also use my bike that I bought in August as only rode it once so far...

To remain a non-smoker
To socialise more
Spend more time with Family
Make more effort when i see family and friends

I also have a few little things i've said i must do this year, which i don't really consider to be part of a resolution because they're not completely within my control. Things like going to a friend's wedding in Vegas and going to Oz to see some friends.

I've started cycling a bit more seriously and I've set myself a target of completing one of the sportive events, usually about 150km in a day.

The only other one is to produce a child.
