I must admit I was a very proud father a couple of seasons ago with a daughter either side of me cheering on the Town. My 10 year old has given up and my 14 year old daughter spent much of yesterday going up and down the stairs for chips, hot chocolate etc. 

No, no. DO subject him to the crap on the pitch. It sets expectations early and softens the blow of disappointment. It hurts less when you expect them to play shit and they actually do.

My lads first game was the 6-0 win against Port Vale. Thankfully he is now coming to the conclusion that it was an utter fluke but the first couple of losses were hard on him!

I have always felt bad about taking my oldest to Swindon Town when he was 10 for his first game, why didn't I take him to Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal etc ...

He is now hook line and sinker a Swindon fan and will take stick for the rest of his life (probably), what a poor father I've been ....

Why feel bad about it, its character forming. It will acclimatise him for all the shit that happens in life - he can now be pragmatic about it and set low expectations. You've done him a favour and he should thank you every day for it.

I think if you take your kids too much and or take them too young then they will get bored of it and not go themselves when they get older. They just do it for the old man, sort of thing.

Especially with lower league football, can be a right chore.

Although it could be that lads I know who went a lot as boys but dont anymore, dont do it because 1) football is a shadow of its former self in terms of excitment or 2) They cant get excited about Swindon anymore after the 10 years we had 86-96.

So be warned, you could be doing the exact opposite of what you wanted and making your boy hate football!

After the third goal he asked me not to pick him up and dance him around above my head. Any goals after that he did try and hide behind his mum. But he's over that now.

I first took my lad when he was 4-Glenn's first game in charge.He was there with me on sat aged 23.He only lost faith once,when we lost to Stevenage -threw his shirt in the bin and said that's it!But he was hooked

Awesome mate. Lets hope he is a town fan for life. Atleast being young he may not notice much of the tripe going on. Would love one day to have a son to take to Town games I must say.

Can't wait to take my nephew to his first Town game...his Dad isn't from round here or indeed, that into football so I'll be taking it upon myself! On that note, nephew number two arrived today! Pretty chuffed as I can still have a joint birthday party now :D

I only became a 'full time' supporter through taking my son... As he has no father and his uncle works weekends i thought it my job to take him... Over the years something clearly went a bit wrong, he hates football now and refuses to go :(

Then he will have a great life then!...he wont run the risk of a beating at the hands of rival fans,nor waste thousands of pounds on the expense..he wont get pissed off with the fantasy footy lge when convinced his player got a assist,he wont freeze on plastic seats and drink dodgy beverages,he wont swear at old men wearing black,he wont stay up late at night watching meaningless highlights..he wont get angry at people on forums giving him stick on whether it should be a Smith or Brez......mmmmm maybe it wont be so great Miss Angry!

So bascially what you're saying Leefer is that he'll be deprived a proper education.

It's great taking kids to games, I've taken my nephew a few times but he gets free tickets now because he's in the under 13's. He always loves it and asks to come back, even when he was very young.

He's been quite well trained though, he claims to be a Manchester United fan but the other day I was chatting to him about his football and what he'd think of playing for Swindon and he said to me, "When I went out on the pitch I looked around and I thought, this is my team and where I always want to be. I want to be a legend one day at Swindon". Almost brought a tear to the eye.. Hope he does me proud!

I remember when my boy was young,he was asked to star in a penalty shoot out at maine road,I think from that day on he became an avid town fan,even though we got tonked and had to sit on scaffolding in the open air in december.

He seems like he enjoyed his day out compo.

There'a always the tourny in Leeds, if he wants to be a Swindon legend.  Not sure we have any Cyber Robins legends yet...
