To be fair I think he's alright for a tory, whether it's to win votes or not we could  do with more councillors trying to help the club rather than trying to block everything we plan for the ground.

Interesting reading.

Maybe the TEF tagline should've been 'no-one likes us, we don't care' !  :D

I've just read the first page of that thread and already I hate Gerald.

He slates us for all being students, sponging off the state who have no valid opinions in the real world.  He also claims that we have no ability to debate anything.  I'm willing to bet I've got an IQ about 10-15 points higher than him, and that he couldn't debate his way out of a paper bag.

I'm considering registering to show how a townender can participate in a debate.

Just registered, not sure what my tact should be, do I just wade in and take this Gerry character on immediately, or do I post a few pro-townend posts in order to reel him in.

The former has it's merits, in that he might be taken aback by a 'newbie' taking him on.

The latter, however, also has its merits, I can lure him in and pounce just when he thinks he has the upper hand.

Suggestions?

lure him in. Gerry has a very low threshold for detecting wind ups and irony.

I would be arsed to join in, but the trust site is far too pompus (we're closer to the club than you, even though the board totally ignore us) for my taste.

My first post:

Quote
Well I'm a townender and was registered on Thisis also.

I've made 88 posts on the adver site, but only 2 of those have been in the last 4 months I would guess.

The reason for this is that I was getting seriously fed-up with constant wind-ups from certain forum members regarding roumers they had made up themselves. Many of the posters on thisis are also too far up their own arses to comprehend. One member spends his time forcing people to read posts about match worn shirts he is selling, another is just an arrogant wierdo who has taken it upon himself to try and mould the site into what he wants it to be. Countless others are on there only to put others down.

Thetownend.com was born for members of other forums who maybe just wanted somewhere where they can talk to other Swindon fans about issues in a grown-up manner - yes there may be some young posters on there but generally they are able to participate in disussion using reasoned views.

What is wrong with people getting together in an online community and actually getting along. I live 60 miles from Swindon, and have only ever lived in Swindon for three months of my 25 years (the three months in question being when I was abou 5 years old). This distance does not stop me from being loyal fan, I am a season ticket holder, and attend most away matches, I have in fact been to 43 games this season.

Unfortunately though, where the distance does not affect my ability to attend matches, it does seriously affect my ability to communicate with other Swindon fans as I have never had the chance to get to know any.

As you can imagine none of my mates at home are interested in hearing what I have to say about Swindon, most are Northampton fans, by the way.

So having a place where I can communicate with other Swindon fans in a friendly manner is exactly what I'm after, I see no need to have to disagree on matters to a point where you have to justify what you think.

So just because there may not be great deal of heavy issues discussed at great length does not mean it is not a valid forum. I enjoy the fact that everyone shares mutual respect with one-another, because at the end of the day all I'm looking for is a place where people are empathetic to how life as a Swindon fan makes me feel.

Thats always entertained me a great deal. He's got very stong opinions for someone who attends less games in a season than most on here do in a couple of months

Yeah, well said Tom. I'd much rather be part of a forum where most people get along and have a laugh.

Whilst it can be entertaining at times, constant bickering becomes very tiresome, especially when we all basically want the same thing: A successful STFC.

How can this Gerald Phillips guy say things like:

Quote from: "Gerald Phillips"
To many headings , dead boring . 100% bollocks site

This Town end site is crap, and all the contributers are up each others arse

This Trust site is far better than this Town end site

They created their own site or have joined it so that they can all agree and lick each others bits

The Town end site is not very good , they have learnt nothing from experience

The site obviously reflects some of the yob culture we get in The Town end so its well named

and then say:

Quote from: "Gerald Phillips"
So that I can read and see what happening ive registered

Im interested in whats going on in there

Without looking like an ignorant, narrow-minded, student-hating fool?

Yeah, I'm not so sure wher the 'yob culture' bit has come from.

He slates us for being students, which many are, many are now ex-students( ) and some never were.  I don't get the connection between students and yobs, usually the two don't mix at all, yet he's put us all in one bracket.

Goes to show how limited HIS debating skills are.

Hahahaha classic!

The fact that we were trying to get new members to post a little while back and youth's effort to expand the site shows we don't have a small community that goes round bumming each other (except piemonte    )

The forum is still in its humble beginnings one feels - the potential it has is far greater than a lot of 'homemade' forums.

Good luck to this Gerald fella, he's going to get torn to pieces on here. At least it will create more discussion and debate!

Right, I've just had another look at the corresponding thread on the trust forum and was further wound up by my new friend Gerry's comments, so I followed my first post up with this little number:

Quote
Gerald,

I've been on this forum a day, and I have to say I'm a little confused by you.

You say that we on the townend are all up each other's arses, which you don't like, but it seems to me that you are yourself so far up Justin's arse that you are almost poking out of his nose.

You seem absolutely desperate to back him up, and you are clearly incapable of rational when reading our forum. Yes Justin has registered on our site, and yes the thread he started 'Ask Away...' was interlaced with a few slightly off-topic posts, but what does it matter, Justin didn't mind answering those concerns, so where does the need for you bashing us come into it? Only conclusion I can come up with is that you are desperately seeking his approval, in order achive some sort of self-actualisation.

Aside from this matter you slate us all for being students, and having no real valid opinions, due to our lack of experiencein the real world. I'm sorry if that's the way you see it, but to some of us we see futhering one's education as an excellent means of securing extended employability. By the way, I myself am no longer a student, and prior to being so I was in full-time employment in accounts led departments for three years, I just felt that at the age of 21 it was right for me study. Many members of the forum are not, nor have been students either.

I'm guessing you opted out of education at your first opportunity, so that you could give yourself every chance of putting those who choose to learn more down at every opportunity, again some sort of self-actualisation technique you seem to specialise in, what other way can you validate your existance? Oh, and re. education, who taught you to use punctuation?

I'm coming to the end of my post now, feel free to counter, afterall us townenders are completely incapable debating, so I'm sure you'll scare me off no problem.

I'm a bit obvlibious to any history involving Gerald and you lot, but in the thread someone was going on about pictures being posed and accusation of paedophilia/nazism.

Was that true? TBH that is way over the top...

[/serious mode]

Right enough of that I've posted the lyrics in the trust thread to a well known 80's TV show. If that doesn't end this then nothing will  :soapy tit wank:  :soapy tit wank:
