Title: Booze for the festive period
Post by: michael on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, 18:44:24
I have bought a couple of bottles of each of these to take the edge off of things:

Kwak, a pokey 8.6% beer from Belgium, rich and coppery in colour, with a creamy head.

Peroni Gran Riserva, a prestigious, strong beer, weighing in at 6.6%. FYI, this beer is the result of a careful, scrupulous selection of the most noble qualities of aromatic hops, yeast and a spring variety of distichous barley named "cherie".

Paulaner original Munich lager (4.9%), is a brilliant gold in colour, and medium body, with sweet lemon, tangerine, toast and golden raisin flavours. Finishes with a gentle, sweet citrus and mineral fade.

Coopers Brewery Original Pale Ale, 4.5%, from Australia, this fruity and robust beer is perfect for every occasion.

Orval Trappist Ale (6.2%), a shimmering and clear amber ale with a fluffy white head. Tart, light and delicate to taste, this is a fine beer.

Kronenbourg Premier Cru, a slow-brewed 6% beer created in Strasbourg. Dark golden in colour, velvety in texture, and smooth in flavour.

Viru, produced in Tartu, Estonia, using fresh spring water and the finest malted barley, this crisp 5% lager is packaged in a unique octahedral bottle that encapsulates its character and quality.

Bitburger, the famous 4.8% pale ale from Germany.

Bottoms up.

I have treated myself to a fantastic locally brewed special beer...Thomas Hardy from O'Hanlons.

A deep very strong Oak and bottle aged beer of 11.7% can be kept like a fine wine for up to 40 years.

Not a chance....and not because it costs around £7 a pint from Waitrose...250ml bottles at £3.49p

Yummy.

That sounds very interesting JJ, although I daresay it is not a "session" drink.

Forgot to say, I also have some Young's Christmas Pudding Ale, purchased on Wood Street, Swindon.

I am not yet sure if this beverage is named due to it tasting of Christmas Pud, or as a metaphor for it being a bit of a treat.

I am am rather partial to a fine, single malt scotch myself.

But when I am holiday (which I will be starting Wednesday), then I couldn't give a flying fuck as long as it is alcoholic.

I won't be drinking Christmas Day. Instead, I'll be going on the lash tomorrow night and will hopefully spend Christmas Day in a semi conscious state.

(For anyone who's interested, I'll be starting tomorrow night on Carling, possibly switching to vodka as the evening progresses)

My lovely mum has got rather a large amount of wine even, including a healthy portion of red even though she doesn't drink that much of it. Super nice of her. It's just the two of us about for Christmas, I don't think she's rally worked out the compensating downwards in alcohol purchasing.

Saying that, we'll probably manage to run out by boxing day.

That would only be 10 pints of Stella .... deciding to have nothing at all, better than just wetting your appetite for more.

10 pints of Stella would be a lengthy session for me...in fact an all dayer.

I dont drink Brandy ....
Going back to the Stella, you can't have less than five to seven pints if you're going for just a steady night out, and before Gazza has a go, and leaving the car at home.

I brought across some Piper Heidseick Champers as its so much cheaper in Lux than here. My old man has got me some Cobra beer, some Peroni and some Guinness. Also some nice Vino Collapso will probably be consumed!

Glad he's got some taste and has avoided the cheapo cooking lager like Carling, Tennants or Fosters!
