I always use Best BBQ on Vic Hill....my kid when in Swindon swears by Mamaris in Devizes Road...I point out I was put off when it was closed with a cockroach infestation. He points out, they've got rid of the roaches.

If any of you are stuck down in Exeter then Raj and Paradise up the top end of town are ace. They're takeaway Indian efforts which also do kebabs. Which means you can get a heap of donor meant with the salady bits on a giant naan. Top that with some delicious yoghurty mint sauce and you've got a meal that I used to eat when I was sober. Brilliant stuff.

Caners van round at Rushy Platt.

His name is not Sandy or something is it? The cunting neighbours we had living below us were called Zeynel Caner and they had relatives in Swindon. Fuckers.

I echo was LucienSanchez has said about Kebab Kid in Oxford, top drawer.

Best BBQ for a good Chicken Shish, never bother with Donner although some chef tried to show how bad they were (due to common myth) but in fact it turned out to be quite good cuts of meat they used to produce them.

When I moved to North London in the 70's, I had no idea what a kebab was, they didn't exist outside of the Cypriot ghettos of Haringey.

I'd guess the Vic Hill shop opened in the very early 80's.....so has been there a while, albeit under different management.

A mate who'd had a heart attack, was told to stop smoking, stop drinking, and stop eating kebabs...he could do the first two OK, but has problems with the kebabs.

Correct. I think it was called Kings when it opened. I went there the first day it opened for my one and only kebab ever. It was definitely the first one in Swindon.

You're missing out. In fact in the summer when we have a brief weekend of sunshine, it's quite enjoyable to make your own kebabs and grill them on the barbecue. Of course, leaving them to marinade for 24-48 hours can be a bit of an issue as you're never too sure if the weather will hold out.

Used to be Best Barbeque, but now prefer Swindon Kebabs - Manchester Rd, although if it is
for the best burgers then Sammies.

So you have eaten a kebab then?

Most kebabs are cooked skewered, doner is the elephants foot you're referring to. My mates mrs at uni was Cypriot (although Greek) but told me doner kebab literally means 'rotating kebab'.
