Quote
We went up and scouted their team in their match against Exeter and in my opinion Swindon's Macklin is one of the best players in youth football; he is like Cristiano Ronaldo, wonderfully gifted on the ball, more than capable of taking players on with an array of tricks.

Nice quote for the footballers CV

Mind the travel doesn't effect your testosterone level Gazza...your performance may suffer.

No idea STFC, too young and inexperienced perhaps, maybe the new manager will want to bring him through (whoever that may be).

Macklin is quality. Trouble is he knows it.

Title: Re: Swindon Youth v Crystal Palace

And is that a bad thing?  Surely strong players need to believe in themselves?

Title: Re: Swindon Youth v Crystal Palace
Post by: Tails on Monday, December 1, 2008, 20:32:39
Depends. You can end up like Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal, or you can end up like Leon Knight. Knight was a fucking quality player who had the ability to go far yet his attitude was shocking and he's now playing in the Conference. Ramsey another incredibly talented player who knuckled down and looks like being a Premier League player for years to come.

Well lets hope Swindon look after him well and help him make the best of his talent.

Good luck tomorrow boys.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of arrogance in a player as long as it doesn't turn into an attitude problem. I don't know much about Macklin, I generally presume all our youth players will end up at local non-league clubs at best, until they prove otherwise at first team level.

5-1 flattered them, although 2nd half palace were much better, lloyd kurt and nath thompson were the best by a mile

Title: Re: Swindon Youth v Crystal Palace
Post by: DiV on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 21:22:31
5-1 did flatter Palace. 2nd goal was luck as Evans slipped, 3rd was well offside and Swindon missed some good chances when they game was 1-1.

Palace first goal must have been struck from about 50 yards out!

Macklin should be in the first team.

hopefully people realise why I have been talking macklin up so much, heard a west ham scout at the game say Lloyd is 'one of the brightest prospects in English football', how will he be able to resist chelsea when he hasnt even been given a ressie game here this season

I saw the West Ham scout there.

I thought Morrison might play was surprised he didnt and even more surprised to see Victor Moses starting for Palace

David Byrne says Macklin is knocking on the door though.

I dont think hes quite in the same class as the other two either way if he is any good it does make you wonder why we paid money for a left back in the summer

Don't we want them to eventually sign contract extentions so we sell them for mega bucks?  :bye:

Shame really. Jutkiewicz has disappeared like many of the others that left Swindon as a youngster. Why not start lower on smaller wages?

But if our business model is the policy of youth, why wouldn't the club be desperate to hold on to him?

I'm not having a go at you, nor the club. Just wondering if there are other issues, or what?

Were Morrison, Kennedy and Macklin not amongst the kids given three year deals then?

no one was given a 3 year deal, Lukas got a 3 year deal offered under Iffy then signed it under Dennis Wise, chrissy got a 2 year deal which ends this summer, lloyd kurt sean joycey callum jake etc signed 1 year deals

Title: Re: Swindon Youth v Crystal Palace
Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 22:50:04
So Lukas was given a 3 year deal then ;) Pedantry.

So pretty much everyone at the club's going to be out of contract this summer then by the looks of it. Except Casal :/

we're only in december. i'm sure new contracts will be offered in due course. Besides, if any big clubs want to steal them off us then they'll have to compensate us.

yeah compensation, bostock went for a few hundred grand compensation, yet lukas who was on a decent contract cost £1m

Well it does seem very odd not to protect your assets with a contract extension that's for sure.  I wondered if they weren't rated (seems unlikely) or something else had gone on attitude wise.

When can other clubs start to talk to them (officially). Perhaps the club are waiting until just before then to start negotiations.

Did we not learn that offering contracts at the last minute didnt work when Comminges fucked off last season.

If we'd offered him one in November/December he'd probably still be here.

Maybe Maklin and Morrison are up for sale in January? We'll get more for those 2 combined than we would for any of our first team squad (with the exception of Cox perhaps).

If they are both out of contract in 6 months time they will be worth less than the price their talents should pull in.

Maybe they saw the change in manager coming and decided to get the new man in first and let him have some input ?

Title: Re: Swindon Youth v Crystal Palace
Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 08:30:00
Surely it will be up to the new manager to decide on contract extensions by who he wants in his squad, who he see's for the future, so that would explain why no deal has been put to them.

Whilst I can see and understand your points you have to be a right retarded manager if you didnt think Morrison and Macklin had enough talent to be professional League One players.

we will lose both maclin and morrison to bigger clubs, just a matter of when and for how much.it's easy to spot the outstanding players in the youths and they have shone when i've seen them.macklin was a bit of a hot head at times though.

he is, he still reminds me so much of Christian Roberts. Who we miss this season.

Everything about him apart from being blacker and less Welsh. Might as well make the most of Morrison and Macklin while they are here though.

Its almost criminal they arent on long term deals.
