Title: New Dog
Post by: ronnie21 on Friday, November 21, 2008, 13:09:49
Which very well known businessman in the town, and a TEF member, has just got a new dog - a handbag dog it was decribed to me!!  Complete with pink lead and collar.

Told not to say who it was, but the guy who told me does go round town on a little red scooter shouting at other TEF members and scaring them to shit!

Little dogs are stupid, if you're getting a dog get a proper sized one or buy a gerbil or something.

For the record I have a black lab.

Hmmm that might be a tad harsh. However a dog that isn't big enough to kill scumbag cats is clearly not serving it's proper purpose.

arriba, you'd do well to make sure you can accomodate these things below, they're on there for a reason as we found out! Birdy goes home at lunchtime to let ours out so he's not left to long. I thought your kids were quite young?

Quote
Ideally, should not be left alone for more than 4 hours.
Would be best suited to a home with older children.
Would be best suited to a home with another suitably matched dog but not cat's.
Needs secure garden with 5ft.

OK OK this wasnt meant to get out.  We got a dog as my mrs gave away her last one in January when she bought a flat as was unfair, whe then moved in about April, so she missed her dog.  I said it was her choice and we got a Besian Frieze.  Its a cute little white thing but the collar and lead are not staying.

It goes through the cat flap for a piss and is a pure mummys girl.

I didnt exchange it for the legends night but did make Mex laugh by saying that.

Things chnage but its called growing up, babies will be next

Yes. When I'm sat on the floor he gets in a huff so stands sideways between me and the laptop. I can a) headbutt him in the belly, b) try to push him out of the way, or c) lick his willy and risk prosecution. I usually go for option 'b', but he's a big cunt so it's not easy. (apologies for the language neville).

Don't worry, I don't own a steam roller so your cat is perfectly safe. I do however own a toaster capable of holding 4 slices of bread and a button that when activated allows you to toast bread from frozen.

Aww I hope you get him he's lovely.A friendly warning though a 10  month old SBT is a destructive force unlike any other dog ive ever owned. They'll chew everything skirting boards, doors and more. You might want to invest in a Crate for when you arent at home.

i discussed his behaviour today with the workers at blue cross yeovil.they seem to think he's fine when on his own,he is placid and mellow, doesn't bark-go mental, time will tell.they said he might piss in the house a bit due to nerves at the start of his life with us but that was it.was thinking of buying a cage though.
he wont be left on his own much at all.
he's ours as long as little un is ok with him and our house checks out ok.(both formalities really)

Good luck Arriba, ours had her first jabs last week and after next Mondays second dose she can go out.  Taught her to sit this weekend (ok my mrs did as the little shit dont listen to me), its great seeing them learn.

We paid £350 for ours as a donation (which was set) but its worth it as we now where she has come from etc and had been wormed and looked after.  Weve been using a hot water bottle at night and the only thing she has eat is my work shirts and not the furniture

We adopted a 10 month old yellow Labrador from Blue Cross, Burford, last December. She has been excellent in all ways, except does not like being left alone, so we now use a cage and that's fine for a couple of hours. I'm home all day which is ideal. I soon started her at obedience classes, and now she is training for agility as well. Great fun, hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.

I nearly took home a massive Bull Mastiff from the rescue centre a few months back called Teddy but I don't have the space sadly at the moment.

That's ace arriba!

Be sure to check some pet suppliers for stuff online that deliver before blowing cash in more expensive shops in the high street - we got a dog bed online for £15 that was £35 in the local pet shop (It's a big bed!).
Pets2home/ParcelPets are very good:

(Run by a mate of mine so I should declare an interest but when we still had our dog, we used to bulk order food from them and they were great - good prices and delivery)

Best of luck arriba. If you don't mind me giving some advice, it's a good idea not to be too excited for a while with the dog, calm assertive energy is needed, as the Dog Whisperer says. My rescue dog was very hyper at first, had never played with a toy,  had loose poo until I found the best food to suit her, and hated being left alone. Don't expect too much straight away. I expect you know all this anyway.

In dog related news, Bath cats and dogs home has been shut down. Went yesterday for their annual fundraiser...

Apparently the virus was brought in by some scabbie pups from Chippenscum

Correct, but they were rescued by the RSPCA when it was reported that somebody was going round trying to sell them in the street - from a wheelbarrow! :grrr:
