Title: Fightback (Jan you'll like this)
Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, October 30, 2008, 18:05:29
Watching Spurs amazing 4-4 draw last night brought back memories of Swindon's win at Birmingham (of course) but also the Edinburgh Derby of 2003 when Hearts played Hibs. After 60 minutes the game was poised at 2-2 (Hibs had been 2-0 up). Goals in 89 and 91 minutes put Hibs 4-2 up and seemingly on their way to a great away win. With Hearts fans streaming out, substitute Graham Weir scored in the 94th and final minute of the game.

I can't find any video of this, but here is the commentary of the dying seconds of the match. Clearly the commentator's are big Hearts fans!

But I make that 4-3 to Hibs.

Aside from the Brum game, others which stick in the mind are 3-0 down at PV, comeback to draw 3-3 driven on by Matt Hewlett.  2-0 down at Wigan in PO semi, comeback to win 3-2.  2-0 down at Scumsville inside 10 mins, but still win 4-2....very sweet. 2-0 down at Trashton to Rovers comeback to win 4-3

It was 4-3 to Hibs going into the final seconds. The commentary was of the 4th Hearts goal to make it 4-4. Surely doing this to your local rivals must be the best feeling in the world!

Also the 3-2 at home to Wednesday a few years back. 2-0 down with 11 minutes to go.

Oh right you miss out the third Hearts goal in your account....you can't beat a good comeback for a bit of mentalness.  I guess the last time we had one was v Wendies, about 04?....I was stood in the TE, when Fallon got the third some cunt stood behind, sprang right over the top of me, I kind of lost my balance started to topple and stuck my hand up the coat sleeve a kiddo next to me, this just gave me enough of a brake, to keep on my feet.  Going down on a terrace used to OK, but those seats are leg breakers.

Amazing how you forget stuff, that used to be amazing even in a small terrace like the TE, stand near the top, and if we scored 10 seconds later you'd be squashed against the front. Ace

Remember going to Wigan in the playoffs...2-0 down and getting hammered, somehow comeback to win 3-2.....drew the home leg 0-0 and was lucky in that match as Wigan played well.

When Johnson took over at City and they had an appalling run of form for about 2 months under his reign (added on to Tinnion's rubbish time in charge). Remember the game where we beat them 2-1 (Friday night I think). Couldn't believe how bad they were.

Then they went on a crazy run of form and went up the next year. Madness.

Swiss Cup semi-final a few years ago. Local derby Grasshoppers v FC Zurich. Grasshoppers 2-0 down after 15 minutes thanks to 2 own goals, and 5-2 down with 11 minutes left. Pulled it back to 5-5 at the end of normal time and then won it 6-5 in extra time. Total madness.

Yeah flippin brilliant.  :-(

Best comeback ever I've experience Brum v Town, Easter Monday 1993.

Port Vale were 4-0 up at home to QPR, all goals in the first half. QPR pulled one back, then scored three in the last 5 minutes. Don't know why I remember that, I think us and Port Vale were fighting relegation from the Championship at the time because it was about 1998.

It was 96/97....maybe you recall because it was on TV, back in the day when ITV did regional games. I know I watched it, but had forgotten QPR got 3 in the last 5 mins.

We were on a few times back then....I suppose 6 or 7 years ago now, when I posted on MoS, I did a thing, whereby with the aid of other posters we compiled a list of all the live games, that STFC have been on the box.....

It needs updating....just can't remember what I did with the master copy  :(

Jan, were you at that game, January 2nd 2003? I believe the song sang to the shellshocked Hibs fans was 'Happy New Weir, Happy New Weir!'

I really think that our 4-3 win over Leicester could be classed as a comeback!  From 3-0 up to be pegged back to 3-3 there appeared to be only one winner that afternoon, but up stepped Chalkie and Zippy finished it off with the pen.  I have a mate who is a Foxes fan - he reckons he is still receiving counselling!!

Nor do I, I was stood in there as well. Those stewards moved bloody quickly - away. If it wasn't for a few suicidal Town fans at the front of the Shrivvy it could have been a lot worse. Leicester fans are bastards.

I was there as well, haven't forgotten that day either.

Going back to come-backs. Beating Charlton 4-1 in the League Cup 2nd Rd 2nd Leg at the valley in 94-95 was good after losing the home game 3-1. Fjortoft got a hat-trick in the first half to put us ahead, and although they equalized 5 minutes from time, Beauchamp hit a shot in extra time which hit the post, hit the goalie on the head on the way out and went in. That was a good night.

Get absolutely rat arsed before the game, then you won't know either way and we may just win. Drunken logic.
