Title: CHILDREN IN NEED!
Post by: THE FLASH on Thursday, October 30, 2008, 10:10:13
Does it get on your tits?

My chosen charity is Dorothy House Hospice who looked after my Uncle when he had cancer years ago. I also dip me hand in my pocket now and again for other causes including Children in Need. I just needed to get that out of the way before anybody thinks i am a tight prick who doesnt support charity.

However......

Every fucking year our TV and Radio is assaulted by this charity and it gets on my tits.

You cant watch a BBC programme or listen to a BBC radio station without it popping up somewhere, its like shit in a field.

That Terry Wogan treats his breakfast show as Pudsy FM.

The overpriced and laughable (how many other countries ave one??) TV License fee is IMO for the BBC to entertain, educate and inform , not stick the begging bowl out for weeks for a charity (however worthy a cause).

If the Charity push was being run by an independent channel (ITV, SKY etc) such as the old Telethon, then i would feel easier about it as of course the option is to turn over and/or off but this is the fucking BBC and i am paying for this shit!

It just gets on my nips >:(........and i had to tell someone about it!

Yes it does, but if they didn't give it the hard sell they wouldn't get as much cash. So I put up with it as in my opinion the ends does justify the means.

I gets on my nerves too, but I tend to just go out and ignore the whole thing.  I don't mind Comic Relief as much, at least that's funny!  But Children in Need gets everywhere, works, shops, pubs, tv.

I don't like to feel pressured into giving.  My little Bolivian boy in erm Bolivia reaps the benefits of my contribution and that's good enough for me.

And........looked at a bit strange if you say "Na, i'll give it a miss, thanks" when someone dressed as a chicken asks you for a few quid at work. ???

Not at all........ones man meat is another mans poison.

Katherine Tate is total shite IMO  but others love her to her bits....so BBC cover all tastes.

But a charity whip round is a principle issue! Should a publicly funded corp be doing this??

If a little bit of my license fee goes towards helping someone less fortunate, directly or indirectly, then i dont see the big issue.

I love it! There's nothing I like more than watching washed up former celebrities trying to revive their careers. Also the sight of big companies hijacking proceedings by having their logo emblazoned on oversized cheques representing money raised by their employees, fills me with joy.

My point is, that it's only once a year and money raised goes to the most vunerable members of our society.

For that point alone, irrespective of it being only once a year, it gets my heartfelt support

I have no issues with this, i have 3 chosen charity’s and this is one of them, no different to a tv program if you don’t like it don’t watch it.

If they're in need, they should be made to work.

There must still be jobs suitable for children, chimney sweep assistants and cotton mill workers to name a couple.

But no. All they want to do is sponge of the country. It's an outrage. I'm thinking of complaining to The Daily Mail.

Wogan should be sacked......

Didn't Wogan say on his radio programme once that he only does Children in Need to "have a laugh at english kids in distress".  And yet the BBC still employ him, it's a disgrace, it really is.

SOMETHING IN CAPITALS

BBC are funded to make programmes people want to watch. This is generally judged on viewing figures. I bet children in need draws some of the highest viewing figures of the week. Therefore they are fulfilling their purpose.

My only gripe in a Victor Meldrew way is i feel it really detracts from the poppy appeal as it is more orless at the same period..for me personally charity begins at home so the poppy appeal always get my few pounds...thats not to say red nose day isnt a good idea because it is.
