Title: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, October 27, 2008, 13:41:43 http://members3.boardhost.com/marionsboard/msg/1225046414.html
Quote At the end of last season, I contrasted Aldershot Town's rise through the amatuer ranks with Franchise stealing Wimbledon's place in the football league - and I referred to England's first franchised football team as a 'Mickey Mouse club'. Cue the most sustained barrage of email abuse I've ever received - and an invite from Don's fan Dave Hand to pop along to Stadium MK and experience a match at the nation's most hated football club. On Tuesday night, I took up Dave's offer, and watched the Dons take on Stockport County in an entertaining league one match. I was given a tour around the impressive 20,000 capacity Stadium MK by former Wimbledon employee Reg Davis, who made the controversial move to Buckinhamshire, and I mer several other followers of the former Crazy Gang who had done likewise. Reg, a thoroughly likeable fellow, has had his car overturned and had excrement posted through his door by fans of AFC Wimbledon, yet he still wished them all the best as they progress up the non-league pyramid. Club chairman Pete Winkleman also told me he would welcome an FA cup tie against AFC - though he insisted Franchise have more of the old club's 'genes' and it was he who absorbed their significant debts. It was an enlightening evening. You couldn't help but like these people or be impressed by the way they have established a club with no history of it's own. But when Stockport scored a last-minute winner, and their committed little bunch of long-standing supporters celebrated as if they had won the Champions League, it was all I could do not to punch the air with delight. Because Stockport County are a proper football club and Franchise are not. Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: Chubbs on Monday, October 27, 2008, 13:52:31 love the ending

Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: thepeoplesgame on Monday, October 27, 2008, 14:37:18 I liked this response on the Stockport site in the link:
"He gets a lot of stick, but fair play to Winkleman to have taken on those debts. What a charitable act. "Likewise I stole a car on Tuesday, but it needed a new fan-belt. But, being an honourable man like Winkleman, I had to foot the bill for that myself." Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: Ardiles on Monday, October 27, 2008, 16:38:52 Very good - i must admit i was hoping AFC would draw the dongs in the cup... They even mentioned the possibility before the draw was made on ITV. I've now (with much regret) given up my hopes from earlier this decade that Franchise FC would implode and leave a white elephant stadium as a permanent reminder to the Miltons of their club stealing folly. Instead, I console myself with the thought that AFC Wimbledon appear to be on the rise - as Aldershot were during their wilderness years - and one day they will get a chance to put one over the Franchise. Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, October 27, 2008, 18:43:30 Winkleman's such a cunt.
Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: Spencer_White on Monday, October 27, 2008, 18:49:21 It is a great shame to read that Pete Winklemans car has not been overturned and excrement not shoved through his door.
Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: tans on Monday, October 27, 2008, 18:51:10 Indeed.
I would much rather read about how he was shot dead in an ideal world. I would quite happily shit on the coffin Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: herthab on Monday, October 27, 2008, 18:58:10 Good article by the reporter. After speaking to a few Dons fans before our game against them it is difficult to dislike them personally.
Although, with a little effort I still managed it..... After speaking to a few Dons fans before our game against them it is difficult to dislike them personally. That's how they get you... Be all nice, 'we're just like you', then you warm to them and before you know it you're a card carrying member of the Nazi party. :D Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: thepeoplesgame on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, 12:03:19 Very good - i must admit i was hoping AFC would draw the dongs in the cup... They had AFC's manager on Radio 5 after the win on Saturday and he said they didn't want them. Being of the opinion that anyone who claims to be a MkDonalds fan is beneath contempt, I have never made the mistake of acknowledging the existence of one, let alone talking to it. Title: Re: Franchise review in the Sunday People Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, 12:59:57 Franchise fans are simply armchair fans that got out of their armchair and errmm, now go and sit on padded seats.
