About a month ago. I sold an unworn Lyle and Scott cardigan (labels still attached) on e-bay.
It went for £36 to someone who had just registered on e-bay and the next day I got the payment through paypal.
Sent off the item recorded delivery, along with a couple of other things I sold at the same time.
A few days later I got an e-mail from the buyer asking where it was, and what address I sent it to.
I replied, and he said there was no such address and to check his paypal and e-bay addresses. I did so - they both said the address I sent it to. When I told him, he said that he had made up the address when setting up his account, but that it didn't exist and he didn't even live in the same town as the false address.
After two weeks I filled in a form for Royal Mail as the item had not been returned to me and in the meantime the twat of a buyer had de-registered with e-bay. but filed a complaint and claim with paypal.
To cut a long story short, despite me sending copies of e-mails where he said he made up the address, and the tracking number to paypal they have decided in his favour and given his money back out of my paypal account  which including P+P was over £40
To say I am pissed off is an understatement.
How can that arsehole get away with it?

I'd have a good old rant at PayPal although I suspect you're on a hiding to nothing.

I'm sure you could get that back, you did exactly what was expected of you - not your fault he put a false address (and didn't advise you of it being false, or offer a valid one), which he admitted to.

It's obviously his address but he's sammed you for the cardigan.

Shit in an envelope and post it to him.

Paypal are fucking shits for things like this. I've seen similar complaints before - offer the buyer protection while the seller gets screwed.

I'm not sure how to get any joy out of Paypal, but someone on this forum might?

Try giving them a call and explaining it through.  You may have to battle through all of the automated crap to get to a person though.

Alternatively, for some sweet revenge forward the fucker one of the phishing emails but change the transaction details to your auction so he gets his account emptiedby Bill from Ghana.

ebay is shit and full of scams,fake gear,etc,etc,etc.

Agreed I used to make a mint importing genuine US/Jap labels back in the day that were hard or difficult to get hold of in the UK but it’s just swamped with so much hooky gear now it’s a waste of time and effort. 

Plus I started to notice the manufacturers started pulling all the auctions down under the fucking Vero program, which gives them the power to basically whip any auction legit or not down without any recompense to you for the fees or any appeal system.

I sell i a lot of stuff on e-bay, haven't had that problem yet. But basically, as soon as my pay-pal account is over £50 i withdraw the money straight away so pay-pal can't take it back.

Keep hassling them, that is totally crap how they have come to that decision.

A mate of mine sold an X-Box and withdrew the money straight away from his PayPal account, however as the buyer used a stolen credit card Paypal took the 200 quid from his account and paid the guy whos card it was. His PayPal account was therefore -200 quid and they pushed for the money back until they sent the baliffs around. He is now going through the FSA to see what he can do.

Presumably the item is signed for and you can get a copy of this detail online too? Might be worth sending that on to paypal.

Ebay is turning into a joke  - My boyfriend brought something a couple of weeks ago and paid straight away - It took ages to arrive - He Emailed the guy several times but got no response - when the item finally did turn up my boyfriend left neutral feedback - to which we recieved a message on our home phone from the seller calling us C U next Tuesdays and threatening us with court action etc!! My Boyfriend reported them to Ebay and played them the message they asked us to report it to the police which we did but they have done NOTHING about it and the guy is still trading

Actually if I may be so course to crash this thread I have agreed to help my lady friend to evolve her eBay business (high volume/low mark-up) onto a "proper-job" fully fledged eCommerce site.

Does anyone have any recommended end-to-end solutions that are fairly simple to use with a full integrated back office?

I’ve had a tiddles at a few of the complete solutions and to be honest a lot of them are clunky and not much more than shitty looking clunky HTML templates that I could rustle up myself.

Paypal have today e-mailed me a survey to complete on my perception of the case against me and how I thought they handled it.
