What actually happened the wembley crowd booed one of their own players?  Hardly news, more like olds, you lot have been doing that at Wembley for years.  Can't see it changing in the foreseeable future.

Still a day out at hampden is a far greater experience than going to Wembley, even my most staunch England fan mates agree there, although they do say England away is a pretty good craic thesedays.

UEFA got it the wrong way round, the tournaments were fine. The problem is the qualifiers. Abolish friendlies and have groups of 12 teams is what I would have done. That would have improved it no end. Its all too expensive, and too much hard work with all the England+ caps bollocks.

As it is, Im usually just glad that were 3rd tier and we dont have to stop for international weekends.

Fair enough Spence.  I can see why some people have lost interest in england, i do think sky have turned it into a bit of a soap opera these days.  ou boys can't just play, win draw or lose and move on.  There always has to be some "breaking news" shit that goes on and on.

Its so rare that you meet real football fans at England.

In between tournaments you get 4 big games in 2 years. Its not on.

I saw the England friendly against Hungry at Old Trafford before the last World Cup and vowed to never go again... I may change my mind one day, although I do support England it doesn't come close to the Swindon feeling.

I met a good few real English football fans yesterday. Some from Swindon at the station and others from Arsenal, West Brom etc at Wembley. The ones I met follow their team first and their country second. Most were knowledgeable, knew Swindon were crap and reminded me of games they'd seen against us when we weren't. Also commented on how good our supporters are / were. Basically good, honest lads.
The Cole incident was a bit unusual. He made a real cock up but Ferdinnad and Brown just watched when if they weren't so complacent could have stopped it. James did a Brez / Smith impression. The fans around me booed Cole not because of this incident but because as a person they find him a loathesome piece of shit and this was a good chance to get at him. One or two were shouting "that's for Cheryl" and the Arsenal fans were just bearing a grudge he went to Chelsea.
Some players really should question why they are booed and others aren't. Rio's comments were plain stupid. I don't think for one minute the fans booing Cole will feel embarrassed. Personally, i don't see why they should either. It was nothing to do with football, a bit of feedback as to what they thuoght of him as a person.
It was the first trip to Wembley for my 13 year old daughter and she loved it.
Oh and if any Swindon fans were on the 8:45 from Paddington in between coaches E and D, I hope you feel well this morning. You provided great entertainment for us on the way home and my daughter increased her vocabulary quite considerably.

On the subject of booing whether its england or swindon someone made the following point on another site and to be honest it is spot on.

football teams (club and national) nowadays treating fans as customers, fans have started to behave as customers. Rather than going along to support the team, they go along expecting entertainment and will show their displeasure if they don't get the entertainment they paid for

I was appalled at the booing Saturday even if he does kind of deserve it - he didnt deserve it for his performances this season for England  - the best left back we have - just a loss of concentration - it happens to every player at some stage in a career

But his overall game on Saturday was crap as well. It was like he was sleep walking through the game as this was not an siolated lapse in concentration - just the worst example. I agree he's the best left back we've got but he under performed badly Saturday and I don't actually think he's progressed as a player since leaving the Arse.

It just shows what a poor defence we have at international standard when Ashley Cole is quoted the best left back available in the country. I doubt he would be in the top 10 in the premiership.

I disagree Dell.  The blokes a cunt but its obvious he's a good left back.  The fact that his 2 clubs (at which he has been undoubtedly 1st choice) have been 2 of the top 4 is isnt just luck.  He's been mcuh better this season as scolari encourages him to join the attack.

He has played for two of the top clubs, you mention Clichy he is a better player than Cole imo and Wayne Bridge when fully fit is a much better player than Cole imo.
Cole going forward links very well with midfield and attack, I think his defending which is meant to be his main asset, is very poor imo

But it would seem that Mourinho, Ericson & Capello all think he is better than bridge and I know who's jugement I trust more. ;)

He has not been available for Capello, Ericson picked his side mainly from the star ratings in The Sun Newspaper and Mourinho did give him many opportunities until injuries kept him out of the side.
How much longer would you like this go on .... for my 8 other selections perm any left back from any of the other 18 sides, that's how low I rate Ashley Cole.

End of the day, the revulsion of the state of out national game is getting close to the surface. It doesnt take a lot to bring it out.
