So what you're saying DRS is your mate should be having a much worse time of it. Are you passing these sentiments onto him via his presumably illegally obtained moby/however he's accessing facebook?

Like smoking or non smoking at restaurants.. Or how they used to be anyway.

More importantly did you go in the drug free wing?

Seems to me that the worst thing about being sent down these days is the fact that you can't do your job, go on holidays, watch the town lose, spend time with the family etc. The actual experience in it self isn't too bad.
So for someone who doesn't have a job, home, etc it is not too much of a deterent. My younger brother did 7 weeks of a 7 month sentence, ie a quarter of the time, for sharing some weed with his mates. His biggest problem was staying off the stuff for a month inside, so he'd pass the test before being released ! (His release was delayed a week because he wasn't clear after 6 weeks inside)

Your example just shows how daft the system is Phil S.

Get sent down for sharing a bit of weed, beat the shit out of someone in town on a friday night for no real reason and you'll get community service ::)

I'm on a prison visit last night to the last Victorian built prison, which has just ceased use.

Went to a prison on a college trip (did public services). Absolute disgrace how they get so much good things like tv's, computers, ps2's etc..
They do wrong, and live in luxury. Something really wrong with it.

I find it hard to believe someone would get 7 months for "sharing a bit of weed with his mates"

Ok, it might have been "generously sharing weighed amounts of weed in exchange for currency" but its still better than giving someone a unprovoked kicking in my view

One of the guys at work has a mate currently enjoying a stay at her majesty's pleasure. And I mean enjoy. He's got a nice cushti cell to himself, Sky+ and a PSP. Prison's a joke.

What's cushty about a cell?

The other things are creature comforts and you could argue strongly that they shouldn't be allowed them.

If your homeless Sie a cell is very cushty....alot of unfortunates would love a bed and be dry and safe for the night.....prison is cushty...end of.

Johnny Cash is to blame for all this. Played a few prison gigs in the 50s and 60s and next thing you know the inmates are getting Sky + boxes in their cells (apparently).

Not as stupid as a cell not being cushty?

Not as stupid as a cell not being cushty?

So you think sleeping in a confined space without natural light is cushty. If you do that's fair enough. I don't.

However, I'm not going to strat making claims that stale bread is nice just because a starving person would eat it, whereas I'd chuck it out.

Fair enough mate,i see your point...but i disagree,i lived rough when i was young for a year and many a time a cell wouldve been welcome...light and all!!

If you just punish people they end up hating authority and the system. If done right prison can help people. Best thing that ever happened to me and not scary
