Post by: herthab on Friday, October 3, 2008, 03:37:56
Don't think we'll lose this.

Hartlepool 2 - Swindon 2 (Or 3).

Hartlepool 1-1 Swindon

... Looking forward to this, I don't get to see many games... Tis very cold up here so I'll be wearing my overkill Swindon coat that's for sure.

C'mon Town.

Now Aljofree is missing we look even weaker,Not a big fan of him but who we gonna put there now,Morrison and Ifil dont look good especially with Ifil low on confidence,Amankwah seems better going forward,Kanyuka not sure if he's injured if he aint is he match fit.

Cant see us getting anything here 2-0 to hartlepool.

Sorry to be negative but I can see our defence being ripped apart tonight a dismal 3 - 0 defeat, I hope I am wrong for the hundred or so fans who will make the long trip.

I see they signed Kevin Kyle on loan.  bit of a big lump but could be a threat.

I think we'll get beat 2-1

even if we tonight I still think the atmosphere will be nasty against Huddersfield.

I cant help but feeling any win will just be 'putting it off' in some peoples mind.

If we lose tonight - remember the current accounts - WE HAVE NO MONEY.
All the Malpas out brigade - you will not get an all star (expensive) manager - the Debts are £13m+ - get real !
Remember Oxford, we could be them - although I hate them and they are now no more than a pub team - look at the attendances - would we get 4,500 to 5,000 in their position - I think not.
Rant over - glad I can't get to games !

Me too, accounts published recently are 05-07 are they not?  Also Fitton et al cleared all the debts, no?

Anyway as for tonight I think we should make the very most of Morrison's long throw - a tough away game like this we should be looking cause as much havoc in their box as possible - I can't believe it took us so long to give him the ball on Sunday...

I'd be happy with a game on a Saturday afternoon....I like Friday night and don't want it spoiled by football.....we've only had 9 games and 33% have been ruined by not being played on a Saturday...FFS if we were in the Prem and getting a shed load of money for the inconvenience then fair enough.

Best go for a draw - 1-1 though I'd like to see us keep a clean sheet for once, don't think it's going to happen tonight.

We're gonna be very slow in the middle I fear. the two boys who finished last season so well as a centre pairing still haven't played together in the middle yet.
I still would give Nalis a 'rest' for a game.

His fault for playing the second string keeper in the first place.

Bollocks, you can't keep dropping someone every time they make a mistake fella, that ain't gonna do anyone any favours.

From the radio, will have to wait a while for a 'proper' report from someone who was there!:

They scored straight after our third. Seemed to be comfortably playing it out. Phil Smith did what he did against Leeds and let a very soft one is. Jack Smith off injured. We have backs to the wall from then on pretty much.

Smith is a good non-league keeper, end of, who I thank profoundly for having one inspired season to get us out of that shitty division. But when you keep making the same mistakes...

What the hell, Malpas picks the teams, the team plays to Malpas's tactics, 3-0 up with just over 35 minutes to go away from home, Leeds showed us how to defend with 10 men for 80 minutes and hit on the brake - there is only one man you can blame for losing a 3-lead away from home. Time to fall on your sword you useless twat and fuck off.

I wish that were true Spencer, but I suspect that following that some sections of our support are going to get straight on the managers and players backs as soon as we kick off even if the players are fighting for the team on Tuesday night.

Shame, cos I think there are the seeds of a good side in their, but we are now in self reinforcing cycle of defeats and poor confidence with a hostile fanbase. The only thing that I think can change it is a change of manager.

And Cox will be off like a shot, to a team that is an effective unit.

This is what Fitton will soon understand, if you have one part of the team that consistently lets you down, then you dont get the time to sort it out. The bad players stay and the good ones leave. It just becomes a total waste of some good players.

Well thats what it sounded like on the radio? They said Peacock was everywhere and all the players looked commited, geeing each other up.

We lost the 1st goal straight after scoring, we lost the second to a goalkeeping howler.

Our defence is crap OST. I think that is their best.

For the sake of his own career it is the only thing he can do, you could not blame the bloke, yes this has always been a stepping stone for him, but he gives 100% every game.

Im not sure I like this inside information stuff. We know its true, just dont want to hear it.

You rekon Cox gives 100% every game? What about Cheltenham?

What Swindon player has given 100% every game this season? None of them! Except maybe Lee Peacock, whos only played twice.

Only a personal opinion but  i think jpc and others  of that ilk are at best peripheral staff who hear half stories, i dont believe 95% of what they say unless its something that is easily corraborated elsewhere.

Yeah, but he missed two sitters at Cheltenham.

Everytime we look like getting some momentum up, someone fucks up or certain players dont put the effort it. Its not always the same players. Wrecked our chances of getting off to a good start.

Good player definately - but he isnt blameless.

Also thought he showed a bad attitude after Cheltenham, giving that Liverpool interview. If the players had taken that defeat seriously (they were shit, worst team in the league, lost 4-0 the next 2 games) we might not be in this mess now.

I'm struggling to get my head round why you're laying into someone whose banged 3 in for us tonight and come away with 1 cunting point. Fair enough if his attitude stinks, those around can't hack it... I'd be shitty too.

Just seen the goals on SSN, my God we defended like cock knockers.  And Smith's mistake was worse than Leeds, this free kick had no pace on it whatsoever.  That goalkeeping coach should be embarrassed to pick up his wages this week.  Smith has to be dropped now, and Brez should be given a fair go.

I'm glad I'm missing the Hudders match as I don't think I could take another home game at the moment, don't think it's gonna be that enjoyable.

Bullshit, come Monday morning I don't think our confidence will be that low, I think it'll be quite easy to focus on those first 60 mins.  Hopefully MM has an idea how we can get decent results, in terms of personal etc.  I have confidence that our impressive away form will continue far from the negative shits at the CG.

And can I just say fair play to LP, I have been his biggest critic in recent weeks/months but he's bided his time and shown that he really does have the passion for the club.

I agree janaage. I jokingly said after the Leeds game that Smith had the sun in his eyes (which he did!) but last night... wow.

By dropping Brez after the Forest away game (where he got beat at his front post) and Malpas has now got two goalkeepers who are either scared of making a mistake, or just totally fucked off. Not good.

Title: Re: Swindon V Hartlepool Matchday Thread.

I've always thought Brez is a better keeper, but was happy that MM stuck with Smith after Leeds, I think it's time for Brez to be back in the first team now though, as I'm not sure the defence will have that much confidence in Smith at the moment, and we need all the confidence we can get at the moment.

after seeing the goals on sky i have to say smith needs to be dropped.i like him and he's done well for us overall.but 2 errors in recent games, the fact we are at home and some cretins will abuse him next week i reckon,so brez needs to come back in.cox got lucky with his second too, but the lad did all the work for all his goals from the footage so well done to him.
throwing away a match like that happens but is the last thing the team and malpas needs right now.it wont calm the situation and i'm dreading next saturday.the vultures will be waiting for the slightest reason to start barracking individuals.

Sat in Newcastle airport, waiting for our flight back to Brizzle. Can't really comment on the game, as I was pissed (And a twat) Obviously disapointed to throw away a 3 goal lead.

Went with Luci to Sunderland V Arsenal yesterday. What a contrast. I know they're (Sunderland) in the Premiership, so have loads more fans than us, but the passion they show for their team is different class.

It depends how big the opposition is... range from £20-£33ish depending on who you're watching and where you're sitting - Stadium of Light has good views for the neutral throughout.

I didn't realise that Hartlepool was so close to Durham... I usually travel east or north thus far on my northern travels... Only took about 15 minutes from Durham.

Hartlepool was a bleak place, nothing like being welcomed to rows of boarded up houses et al. I enjoyed it despite the conclusion.

I will never forget my first trip to Hartlepool.

We were on that train from Newcastle to Hartlepool. Loads of white water on the sea, and the trees (those few that could take the battering) were bending over sideways. Put about 4 layers on to get off the train and went in the first pub. Bar man had 2 black eyes and a broken nose. Kronenbergs were £1 a bottle. We got set upon on the way to the ground and they were nasty afterwards as well.

A very very hard place.

Fucks' sake, give the bloke some credit. He must have been gut-wrenched inside, he knows he's cost us 3 points and that everyone's blaming him for it, he could (and most would) have fucked off down the tunnel and hid. But he shows some respect for those who've travelled all that way (which he knows damn well is going to make them all the more angry with him) and fronts it out. Doesn't make up for the mistake but shows guts, respect and class. A lot of so-called pros could learn from that.
