Title: Singing area Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:18:49 Anyone think the club should have somewhere for this now. Atmosphere has been shit this year and i cant help feel people just sat there bored are getting irate easier(myself included) oh and whats happening with the loud and proud thing gazza
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: DiV on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:23:11 Again something that has crossed my mind
If only we had a happy clappy supporters group or something, oh wait we do....I dont like taking digs at people (ok real digs if you will) but if ever there was a need for some happy clappers to get of their arse and do something now would be the time. My main gripe with a signing area would be, where would it be....my seat I like the view and up untill this season I liked the fact no one sat by me.... Sad but I like the view and wouldnt want to move.....where as most people would probably want the signing area in the Town End.... Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:25:00 Next year perhaps we should all be proper cliquey and sit around the same areas.
Also, we could get loads of the brilliant songs we make up on here going - and the shit ones. Not a bad idea though DRS. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:29:20 Tis a good idea, what is there 800 odd members? A quarter of that would make a big racket.
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: yeo on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:34:55 I always think clubs with "singing areas" are a bit plastic and bent.
Its a bit Franchise isnt it? Though i agree something needs to be done, though Ive only been to 1 home game so probably shouldnt really comment ;D Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:36:02 Dancin' Yeovil would gee up us plastics.
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:36:20 The whole Town End sat in one group would be hilarious. I bet we'd start better songs though.
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Luci on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:37:04 Tres amusing! Lets do it!
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:38:07 I think we should hold hands and sway when we do it as well.
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:38:07 You'd have to do it at a cup game where we don't all get our ST seats.
Would be fun looking at people and guessing which poster they were though. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: yeo on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:40:08 I'm going in the away end for this game and abusing you cunts all match 8)
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Tails on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:41:51 I think all of us as town enders as decent Swindon supporters should encourage every player when we get the chance. Even if it's JPM and he's playing shit. The players need all the encouragement they can get at the moment.
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Luci on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:43:54 Buy out a block in bulk!
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:45:35 I always think clubs with "singing areas" are a bit plastic and bent. You're right "official" is gay, but coordinated meet ups in an agreed empty area i.e. Arkells near the town end would be good. Its a bit Franchise isnt it? Though i agree something needs to be done, though Ive only been to 1 home game so probably shouldnt really comment ;D Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:45:51 Lads in the CGH garden said that the cheer when Millwall scored saturday was a lot louder than when we scored.
I do think weve got serious problems on and off the field. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: donkey on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 20:09:51 I think all of us as town enders as decent Swindon supporters should encourage every player when we get the chance. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: STFC Village on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 20:13:07 We should follow the example of the Italians and have a guy with a megaphone down at the front get the crowd going. If we're playing crap, we can just shout at him instead
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: LucienSanchez on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 21:03:41 Wembley has a singing section for England games. That made me sad. And is part of the reason i no longer go.

Title: Re: Singing area Post by: flammableBen on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 21:51:38 Get new people Gaz!
You know like in Save by the Bell, when they did a new class but Screech and Mr. Belding were still in it? Like that. But obviously within the framework of a supporters group. Not a 20 year old high school teen comedy. Although I'm sure the two have plenty in common. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: JPC82 on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 21:52:26 screech got too daft in the newer ones, even more over the top fucking daft face pulling

Title: Re: Singing area Post by: sharper on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 22:05:57 The problem was pricing the season tickets for Townend/Nationwide/Arkells at the same rate. This has lead to a half full TE at best for some games. Thats were the atmosphere at the CG comes from.
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 22:15:08 It's part of the reason, but it's been a challenge sustaining any kind of atmosphere since McMahon's final days I think.

They can hold their heads up high today, shame we cant say the same thing. Better off sticking to the full philharmonic orchestra. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: BANGKOK RED on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 11:43:08 What about kettle drums, they is ace and they could play a samba beat to match MM's sexy sexy samba style.

Its also about expecatation levels as well though, Alborg knew full well they had no chance in hell of beating Manchester United so just enjoyed it. Our fans expect us to beat teams like Millwall at home. If we were playing Manchester United and only losing 3-0 we'd still be enjoying it I reckon Title: Re: Singing area Post by: BANGKOK RED on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 11:47:52 What about kettle drums, they is ace and they could play a samba beat to match MM's sexy sexy samba style. DRS has got a recorder. He can only play 'Three Blind Mice' at the moment, but give him time, he's only had it 15 years. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: herthab on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 11:53:00 Whether people think it's gay or not, a singing area (Other than the Townend) is, imo, a great idea.
I think it should be Block N of the DRS, then I won't have to move...... Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Rustle on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 12:33:36 Its also about expecatation levels as well though, Alborg knew full well they had no chance in hell of beating Manchester United so just enjoyed it. Our fans expect us to beat teams like Millwall at home. If we were playing Manchester United and only losing 3-0 we'd still be enjoying it I reckon Im not sure about that DV i wouldt be happy getting beat 3-0 by united,my point really is our ground is like a home game for the opposition, what happened to the days when we used to sing were going to win 3-2 when we are 2-0 down,It's like everybody is sat there waiting for the worst to happen,Im sure some of you can remember the division 4 games with about 3,000 crowd singing their hearts out. Most embarrassing was last season being outsung by about 50 vale fan's,If it takes happy clappers or ticker tape or whatever to create an atmosphere then im all for it,not keen on drums tho its a bit to wendyish. Don Rogers is pretty full every week now. Might not be next season though. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: janaage on Sunday, October 5, 2008, 10:13:29 Think it's going to take a few "singers" to bite the bullet and move back to the TE, the cup would be a good idea to trial it out I suppose.
Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, October 5, 2008, 10:53:36 It was inevitable that once moved to the DRS the (then) townenders would become quiet clappy types.
Still, I am one to talk. It's an effort to drag myself to games let alone join in with any chants. Saying that, I think the only ones I didn't join in with against Millwall were the anti-Malpas ones. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: ChalkyWhiteIsGod on Sunday, October 5, 2008, 12:37:04 Fuck drums, fuck designated singing sections. It's all so plastic fantastic Franchise. All you can do is get a decent set of you to all sit/stand together and start some songs off.
We did it against Tramnere but unfortunately everyone behind us either wasnt interested or was one of the kids at the back of the DRS who seem to have had a few too many red bulls and sing far too fast. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Tails on Sunday, October 5, 2008, 16:17:51 Well Franchise have a better atmosphere than us. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, October 5, 2008, 16:50:24 Il tell you how it happened though. All our youngsters constantly speed up chants until they collapse.
The new generation of supporters dont know how to support their team. Theres no way I would join in with any chant by the young supporters because they just embaress us. And yet the Town End was very good just a few years ago. Where did they go so wrong? The moment of realisation for me was Barnet FA Cup last season. Their support was 90 percent teenage lads, but they supported their team absolutely fantastic. Great support, chants that went on and on, louder and louder, you could see it raising the players, we never got a chant in edgways. Maybe we should start a campaign to save our support? Sing up, slow down? Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Reg Smeeton on Sunday, October 5, 2008, 18:11:04 Could we not have a Whingeing area....where all the moaners can gather and really let rip. Title: Re: Singing area Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, October 5, 2008, 18:17:02 Ive just remmembered the most embaressing moment of all time them all regarding our teenage supporters.
At Aldershot, having sped up every Swindon chant, and used them all up in the first 5 minutes, they realised that Aldershot were not playing to the same rules, and getting behind their side with some sustained, in time chanting. So what did they do? Ten German Bombers. Bring back the young lads of the 1980's. You were a class apart.
