Title: This weekend and Ireland
Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 17:23:42
Back over to Anglaterre this weekend, the plan was originally to go to the Millwall game but this has now been moved! Stupid police! Instead I am off to Ascot Races with the old man. There is some kind of beer festival there with 130 different types of beers and ciders. My uncle's syndicate horse, Furnace may be running, my stupid dad never told me the last time it ran and it won at 16/1!

Then on Sunday we are driving over to Dublin for 3 nights and then up to stay in Belfast for 3 nights. Can anyone recommend things to do or see over in the emerald isle? As we have a car, some nice drives recommended are appreciated as well.

The journey between Dublin and Belfast isn't the most interesting if going direct.

My experiences of Ireland have usually been on a bike , which I consider the best method of seeing the country.  Unfortunately the best bits are out on the edges..Ireland is a bit like a basin, mountains on the edges, drain to bogs in the middle.

AS you go north though from Dublin,  there is some awesome megalithic stuff in County Meath....not everybody's cup and ring mark...but a passion of mine.

  New Grange is the dog's....

Crossing the border, The Mountains of Mourne ar worth a look...as is the Ards peninsula. Once in Belfast, Antrim to the north is quite spectacular.
