Title: Coate .... again Post by: Bushey Boy on Friday, September 19, 2008, 18:54:03 OK so we have many debates on this, but can you blame the developers going to the government. SBC have sat on the plans etc for nearly a year and not given any idea of a solution. Why not use the area as a countrypark/marine boilogy type wildlife university? You could place the students accomodation where the old police station and post offices were and they can use the bus route to teh hospital as transport.
To protect Coate issue a one mile ring around it that will never be developed. Just seems this town is full of short sighted people who are scared of change. Your views? Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Friday, September 19, 2008, 18:56:45 Agree, perfect location for a stadium aswell. Bet alans busy.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: leefer on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:10:22 Personally Bushey i dont think Coate should be developed, but if it is the people of Swindon should be balloted on it....why should a few councillors get the say on what happens to a part of Swindon that belongs to us....the people who live here should decide on what happens there IMO.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:18:56 Dont think it should be developed.Hasnt the raping of the front garden stalled due to the credit crunch why should this be different? They've dug the front gardenl up and now stopped building, walk up the Old Town Railway Path you'll see what a mess they've made.Coate isnt a big area, why must every inch of the green space this town be developed? a balance has to be struck and developing coate is a step over the mark.
If the Goverment give them the go ahead im doing a Swampy. Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:20:35 Personally Bushey i dont think Coate should be developed, but if it is the people of Swindon should be balloted on it....why should a few councillors get the say on what happens to a part of Swindon that belongs to us....the people who live here should decide on what happens there IMO. well the people of Swindon vote for the Councillers to make these decisions dont they? Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bushey Boy on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:21:25 Yeovil, the infrastructure is in, bricks have been stopped being manufactured and the problems have been sorted before it goes worse!
I agree what your saying but Swindon Council and the government need the money. Might as well get a solution sorted IMHO Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: leefer on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:25:16 No they dont Yeovil...thats the point, less than 30% do so 70% have no intention of voting for councilors who constantly take the piss...have you seen the mechanics institute, its a fukin disgrace, yet they can find millions for a new shopping centre...like we havnt got enough shopping centres in the west.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:29:44 Whats that thing they are building on fleming way, were the ford dealership used to be?
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:33:05 hmmm but can you blame the Council because people cant motivate themselves to exercise thier democratic right to vote? Its just another example of the average Swindoner not giving a fuck about the Town.
As I understand it Coate is to be 1500 houses a Primary School and a University Campus but the developers wont say what uni they have interested since Bath bailed making it sound like they are making it up? Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:33:59 Whats that thing they are building on fleming way, were the ford dealership used to be? A Giant house of Cheese for the Mice Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:35:38 What a waste of the tax payers money. They should build more houses instead
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:37:04 Pfft the Mice pay there way! except the Albanian ones that is...
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bushey Boy on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:39:24 Ford garage is flats - look good at teh mo.
Um mechanics and brunel are now private companies - not council as they SOLD them. Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:40:25 Yeovil, the infrastructure is in, bricks have been stopped being manufactured and the problems have been sorted before it goes worse! I agree what your saying but Swindon Council and the government need the money. Might as well get a solution sorted IMHO theyve stopped making bricks? that sounds like a builder excuse for "weve run out of money" Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:44:38 These bloody immigrant mice. Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: leefer on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:46:32 Its my democratic right along with others if i dont want to vote, councilors are an easy target of course yeovil...but they dont help themselfs do they.
Got to say Yeovil but i dont agree with that hogwash about if you dont vote dont moan, lets face it half the country didnt vote labour last election but weve all had to suffer the consequences of the mess this country finds itself in....i would love to vote, but not for the sake of it Red. In your part of the world you had Paddy Ashdown who did shed loads for Yeovil and its area, cant think of anyone down here whos done that down here. Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:55:06 I lived in Swindon since voting age.
Politicians and Councillers are ultimatly self serving idiots, this thread is about a single issue though isnt it? So if someone was to run for election on a "Save Coate" card would they get elected and would the turn out be higher? I doubt it personally because to many people see Swindon as somewhere they live rather than their home. As for the Labour thing, the Country is in a state because of World Events in my opinion no one could have avoided our current problems. Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, September 19, 2008, 19:56:40 In your part of the world you had Paddy Ashdown who did shed loads for Yeovil and its area, cant think of anyone down here whos done that down here. Can't recall Ashdown doing much for Rodbourne...I know he single handedly helped Bosnia establish itself as a credible force in European football...Bosnia 7 Estonia 0 in the recent WC qualifiers. Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bushey Boy on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:00:42 The bricks are cooked ina earn type thing (too late to rememebr name) and it takes 6 - 8 weeks to close downa nd re open, they have closed it in the UK due to hosuing crisis so bricks will become short soon. The infrastructure had to be doen due to the planning being taken away, it camt now. Opposit the Beehive there are two proeprties foundations done, this is standard developers practice.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:01:52 and it stinks, as do you !
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:02:45 Haha, are you saying we all have to start stockpiling bricks soon?

Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:06:08 Haha, i'll go on brickwatch
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: leefer on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:09:49 Maybe yeovil...but the reason alot of lib democrats get in at local level is because they do alot for the local areas they serve....anyway if they building houses at coate isnt progress....theres about 2000 in the new north swindon estates that they cant even sell even in a buyers climate....lets leave coate as it is is my opinion for what its worth.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:10:31 A stinking sewage filled pool?
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Arriba on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:28:05 is it really needed to build at coate?
surely there are other areas that could be suitable.i think swindon is too big already Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: axs on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:37:17 are they going to start a brick hotline? Is cone hotline still running - the idea of that still makes me smile.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: ronnie21 on Friday, September 19, 2008, 20:49:30 Whats that thing they are building on fleming way, were the ford dealership used to be? It's actually going to be a hotel. Dear little Bushey is getting muddled up with the Ford garage in Old Town, that was demolished and residential development put on there.Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Miss Angry on Friday, September 19, 2008, 22:43:27 make sure you wear PJs Dave you make wake up with your bedrrom wall stolen by the brick theives! That gave me a giggle fit :D Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: RobertT on Friday, September 19, 2008, 23:00:21 It's actually going to be a hotel. Dear little Bushey is getting muddled up with the Ford garage in Old Town, that was demolished and residential development put on there. Jury's Inn isn't it? During a brick shortage, do people begin pinching bricks from other peoples houses? Didn't we have a fence panel shortage recently?, or was that some weird dream that ended up with a pink dragon breathing air freshner at me? Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Friday, September 19, 2008, 23:19:53 I don't think there is any need to build at Coate. Would be the last big bit of green space gone in Swindon if they did. Not only that the council now have plans for a Uni in the Town Centre although quite where and how i don't know. Can't see this going ahead anyway because even if the developer goes straight to the government the council still gets a say.

I think I remember it too, although we might be having some spooky joint dreams. Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: Gazza's Fat Mate on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 17:03:51 I live in mk surrounded by green space. I love it because I use it ie go to park walk the missus etc. All you fuckers moaning about "greeb space" do you use it? course you don't so want the fuck are you moaning about. You all sound like NIMBYS moaning for monaing sake, i bet your the same people who used to moan about house prices being to highe well one solution is to build more so all your scummy left twats can rent a house and keep bushey in business!

Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: yeo on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 17:20:46 Coates always really busy on a Sunny Day its a well used area.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: pauld on Sunday, September 21, 2008, 13:37:08 okay you can moan but you are the expection not the rule How would you know, you live in MK? There's bloody loads of people use the whole area around Coate, not just the country park - horse riders, ramblers, dog walkers, or just families out for a stroll. And if the developers get their way, it will destroy the park as a country park - which is the whole attraction, the semi-rural setting - not to mention as a wildlife area which makes it a SSSI. It'll just be a big pond overshadowed by yet another faceless housing estate/business park.Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, September 21, 2008, 13:42:57 Let's be fair. Horse riders, ramblers and dog walkers are all scum. Don't get me started on families.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, September 21, 2008, 13:47:50 They should build a giant ewok village, but with electricity and running water and offices and stuff. Everybody wins.

Everybody wins. would you have to be an ewok to live there though? Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, September 21, 2008, 14:07:56 No. That would be silly.
Title: Re: Coate .... again Post by: RobertT on Monday, September 22, 2008, 23:41:39 You'd have to give about 30% of the ewok development over to social housing to comply within the building laws, which would somewhat ruin the atmosphere I would imagine. Far better to replace Coate with and actual Concrete Jungle with concrete trees, swamps, aligators, the lot.

Not a problem, ewoks are definitely a deprived minority within the scope of the legislation. |
