Title: Slaves to the system....
Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, September 13, 2008, 18:23:17
...that album by Elbow, The Seldom Kid.

It's been out since March - it's sales at work were mediocre at best but since they won the Mercury Prize we've been selling a ridiculous amount a day... over 50 today (which is alot for us), we didn't sell that many for months on end prior to the other night.

I don't care if it's good or not, people are such SHEEP  ;D

Exactly the sort of reaction I'd expect from a "oooh look it at me,im such a musical elitist" record shop worker.

Yeah, fair play to them in that respect, my point wasn't as snobby as it seemed but it wasn't as if Elbow were an obsure name.

Either way, they're now up there with M People as legends of the Mercury Prize (what were they thinking that year!?!)

Say what you like about the tenets of music awards, but at least Mercury Prize gives an opportunity to artists who perhaps need more exposure. Unlike, say, the Brit Awards, which is just one big backslapping ceremony.
