I've never liked the Chilis all that much, but they do have some songs I think are great, Under The Bridge is probably my favourite of theirs, I think John Frusciante is an amazing guitarist.

I was also going to remind Dave of their non-Britishness, but it seems I've been beaten to it.

the 90s was probably the worst decade for music all round. except maybe the fifties.

The 80's were worse, unless you are into yer hair metal.

The 90's were massively eclectic, more so than any other, and perhaps the last decade of true innovation.

music was better in the US during the 90s...

the 80s had some of the greatest stuff of all time - the jam, minor threat, early r.e.m., the smiths...

it's impossible to define decades as musical eras after the 60s really. there's plenty of new and innovative music around still.

You're right Youth, I couldn't imagine music history without Status Quo and Bananarama.

Although Status Quo were more successful in the 70s weren't they?

Stuff they had out in the 70s was largely brilliant, then the 80s came around and they became shite.

Must have been something in the water in that decade.

Actually I am basing my Genesis example on hearsay.

I am not at all familiar with their output.

The music you remember the most and love is normally in the era when you were a 'youth' or when you went out a lot 'dancing or whatever you call it these days', not in every case of course because some older classics never die.
So the music I will always love will be late 60s, 70s especially and early 80s.
