Title: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Miss Angry on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 12:40:31 My brothers 360 has died, its not that ring of death thing it's "To play this disc, please put it in an xbox 360 console". After searching on google i think its possibly a dead dvd drive. He's had it since they first came out so i dont think i can send it back to anyone.
So... I was debating with myself as to whether to buy my son one for xmas anyway, but dont want him to have too many consoles in one house so im thinking i will just replace my brothers (my son plays on it more than him). Do i buy a brand new one or can i get an arcade one £50 cheaper and put the hard drive from the old one into it? Someone at work says i can do the above but i dont really understand it and my brother is useless.... Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 12:46:06 If it's just the DVD drive then you can buy a second hand one on eBay. They're pretty simple to replace, if the machines old as you say then there's no worry about voiding the warranty by opening it up.
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: jonbd on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 12:54:03 If you can get the exact same model of xbox DVD drive then you can swap them over, but you will need to take the circuit board off the dodgy drive and put it on the new drive as each drive has a unique key tied to each xbox. If you can't find an exact replacement then you would have to bugger about with getting it flashed/modded to accept another drive
Or you can just buy the arcade pack and stick the hard drive from the old one in it, jobs a good un! Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Miss Angry on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 13:07:02 I think i'll give the DVD drive thing a miss then! ???
Is the hard drive pretty simple to get in and out? Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: tans on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 13:17:41 its just clips on and off
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Miss Angry on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 13:37:43 Cheers guys, im gonna try it Sunday.
Whilst im here though... the live thing... My brother has a profile and so does Gianluca on the same machine. I have just set one of them up on a free months trial and then he will pay whatever it is a year. But do i have to pay a second time for them to use thier own tags or can i just have one subscription? The wii is soooo much easier than this bloody thing! Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: tans on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 13:41:16 each xbox live tag is a seperate subscription miss a

We should get on the mario kart agian, i only joined in once but it was fun! Then im gonna go on the xbox n kill everyone on call of duty 4 which im strangely wanting to play rather than just watch my boyfriend play the whole time! Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: tans on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 15:15:02 they have numerous hardware problems arriba, mines gone back twice with the red ring of death!
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: jonbd on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 15:21:59 It's only 3 years for the "red ring of death" fault that seems to happen to everyone! Otherwise it's just one year. I'm already on my 7th 360 after the previous 6 died (under warranty thank fuck)!
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Arriba on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 15:23:24 glad i got a ps3
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: tans on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 15:25:38 are u on xbox live jonbd?
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Miss Angry on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 15:26:21 ill kick your arse! He tried to teach me once, he never offered agian... im better at spotting people and telling him "he's over there" giving no paticular direction then when he gets shot telling him "i told you he was there" If i was left to do it on my own im sure id be good even without the 10000000 hours play that all men seem to have Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: tans on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 15:27:20 if your on xbox live pm your gamertag!

It would be far cheaper for me and we might actually be able to leave the house on a weekend :D Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 16:14:03 Meh Xbox's always seem to die. Bloody MS. Shame it wasn't the RROD because you can get that fixed with MS for free. The only thing i will say is don't get the arcade one. It's cheap for a reason. They are the ones the fail the most. The elite (black one) is supposed to be the one that doesn't fail. That said if it's a faulty DVD drive it's easier to just get the Arcade one anyway. And it makes practical sense. I don't play my 360 much anymore. I don't play my PS3 much either. Kinda bored of them at the moment as there are no decent games out for another few weeks yet.
I have 2 Xbox Live Gamertags by the way. So if anyone fancies a game of COD4 you can add my "IffysOnionBhaji" one to your friends list as i normally use that for COD now. Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: jonbd on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 16:37:00 the arcade and the elite ones have exactly the same hardware for the actual unit now so i wouldn't worry about that anymore. I imagine if you swapped it with Raveys he would be a suicide risk without his COD fix so best not hehe!
I'm getting loads of play out of Rock Band at the mo, it's a right laugh! I need to get back into some cod4 action at some point though! gamertag=jonbeedee Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 17:16:36 I am starting to get back into COD. That game can get really addictive if you are not careful.
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 20:03:29 If it was me I wouldn't buy another one. If it goes wrong so often is it worth the risk again?
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Miss Angry on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 20:59:24 Im replacing my brothers, so its the first one i would have purchased :P
In doing so i will keep both him and Gianni happy AND i know Gianluca would really, really like Rockband for xmas But i couldnt justify buying him both an xbox and the whole rockband thing for xmas cos in my opinion that is way too much to give a 10 yr old. This way he will still think it's his uncles 360 but have a big main rockband present to play on it Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 21:03:20 You didn't have to explain yourself, ha ha.
I'd make sure you pre-buy Rock Band 2. That's going to be a big seller before Christmas. Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Miss Angry on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 21:07:47 Haha
Im not explaining myself so much as reminding myself, as a girl its been playing on my mind all day Im glad you have said pre buy that would have been my next question..! I kinda figured its gonna be one of the top 10 xmas list. Luckly i was checking prices today and realised the stuff doesnt come with the game... which once agian is stupid. Who wants a game with no drums or vice versa!? Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 21:44:45 The drums are the best bit. Guitar Hero 4 is the game to look out for. Rock Band is good but there is a new and improved drum kit controller for GH4 and the track listing looks pretty damn good. And of course you can do vocals and guitar as well.
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 22:08:12 Regarding rockband, most high street shops did it as a bundle, drums, guitar and mic with game for £150. Not sure if this is still the case or true online however, worth looking tho.
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 22:57:21 Guitar Hero 4 will also be out around the same time I'd expect. That'll have drums as well.
Title: Re: Xbox 360 help... Post by: jonbd on Friday, September 5, 2008, 07:43:15 Both sets of drums/guitars etc will work with both games too which is a bonus! There will be a new drum kit for rock band 2 whenever they decide to release it over here as well!!
