Title: Bye Bye Brezovan?
Post by: herthab on Monday, August 4, 2008, 06:35:56

Hungarian trialists arrive at the Club today, one of which is a goalkeeper.

I know I'm putting two and two together, but why would we be looking at another goalkeeper?

Looking at a #3? Lets not forget we had a keeper on trial last summer too.

Brez or Smith will move on sooner or later, but I doubt it's linked to the trialist.

Aren't they both 20, this is just the scouting network kicking in, and looking towards the future methinks.

Good points.

Apologies for my knee jerk reaction (I blame the early morning)

If so, good to see the scouts kick off. Seems they have been conspicuous by the absence of any recommendations so far ...

That's mainly because no one has been playing.

How do you know that?  Do they have to publically declare them?

Brez won't be going anywhere on the back of his pre-season form... looks dodgy as hell. He appears to have improved his kicking at the expense of catching practise.

Stupid bald man

Harsh.

But fair...

This will start the usual bumming session again, but Brezovan is far from being assured of being the best keeper at STFC unlike some of the drivel that gets written about him i.e. best keeper in league 1, best keeper outside the premiership.  NO. HE. ISNT. I dont think he's shit by any means, but he has never recaptured his constanty pre-injury excellent form

If Brez was that good why has no one come in for him yet and tried to tempt him away ?

Because it's a secret.

shhhhhhh.

A secret that someone is trying to buy him or a secret that he's over rated?

Wolves came in for him in January, I believe.

He's a very good keeper, but I agree that people get carried away.
Sounds like he's been dodgy recently so it wil be interesting to see how he plays tonight, presuming this will be his last chance to claim a spot in the side against Tranmere.
Back to the point, I don't think he's going anywhere

I agree with that he has looked quite shaky and wouldn't be surprised to see Smith in goal saturday.

It was interesting that Brez was given 90 mins against Hungerford, I wonder if Smith will be given 90 mins tonight ?

Both Smith and Brezovan could be 1st choice - either could leave to be honest.

Rest assured, Ken Ryder is one of the busiest scouts in the country. We will really start to see the benefits of the network in the medium to long term but it's interesting to see we're looking at Hungarian players, as Sturrock has cottoned on to the fact that very good players can be picked up for low prices.

Has it not become easier to bring the Hungarians in since they joined the EU aswell?

In that case, my apologies to scouts everywhere and KR in particular.

You can never have too many keepers. Remember 97-98 when we played QPR at home? Digby was injured, Talia was injured and Mildenhall was still recovering from his horrendous kick in the bollocks in the previous game against Pompey. We were struggling to get yet another keeper in on loan and there was serious talk of Alan McDonald going in goal. As it was, Fraser, clearly not fit (I think he was recovering from a dislocated shoulder or something) went between the sticks. Amazingly, we won 3-1.

We got through a fair few keepers in the Prem as well I seem to recall. Digby, Hammond, Heald and Sheffield all spring immediately to mind.

That, my friends, is why you can never ever have too many keepers.
