  Handling nicked phones?

To get by in this business you've simply got to look up to your fellow professionals and think "what would a first team player do?"

Looks very much like a second team playing tonight then, of the starting 11 only Aljofree has a chance of getting a starting spot for the Tranmere game IMO.

Tear icon, really? Does it really matter? It just proves what we already know

1) about how some players on the pitch are not good enough/ready for League football.
2) that we need a couple new faces to strengthen.

and and

3) Malpas OUT!

Title: Re: Salisbury City V Swindon Town
Post by: lambourn red on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 20:45:25
I reckon out of the team that played tonight only Jack Smith and maybe Aljofree have any chance of starting against Tranmere(injuries permitting) so not to bothered about the result.
Once the cock and corr comeback I am pretty sure they will be back amongst the goals with crosses from Mcnamee

Title: Re: Salisbury City V Swindon Town
Post by: glos_robin on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 20:48:40
Don't think tonight is much to worry about to be honest, Salisbury are a professional outfit so there starting line-up is bound to be able to match our stiffs.
Lets face it we had our second string keeper, 4th or 5th choice strikers and 4th or 5th choice midfielders...........and Pook. None of the players on that pitch bar Aljofree (who I still don't really rate) is good enough to start regularly and probably won't start more than a handful of games next season.

In a word..............no.

Had a laugh with JJ though, so not all bad.

Tbh, with the team we had out it wasn't a surprise we lost. Some of our build up play was ok, but a combination of shit final balls and woeful shooting meant we were never gonna score.

Morrison gifted them their second, he was last man and was easily dispossessed.

Never mind, Nam on Saturday!!

The lone ranger up front was a good athlete but a poor footballer, John Hills completed 90 mins and looked quite good, Ben Joyce stood out in the first half. Other than that there was very little to report apart from not being allowed into the clubhouse for a beer on police advice!

I think if he got himself fit he would certainly put Vincent under alot of pressure. He seemed good defensively and better on the ball than Vincent. He also seemed quicker and sharper than I imagines, although he wasn't particularly good in the air. It's a very low risk signing so yeah, I wouldn't haven't any issues with signing him on a 1 year deal.

In other news, If Hasney carries on like that he won't get anywhere near Kanyuka and Ifil.

To be honest fellas this result tells us nothing, even the "we have little strength in depth" calls are wrong imo.

Since when in a normal season do you have to rely on 8 or 9 reserve team players?  Okay one or two may come in at a time but it's unusual to have that many playing at once.  Our reserve players are more than capable of playing with the first team.

2-0's not a bad result at all.

Well as Steve stated so eloquently the game was shit, we were lacking in the final ball, poor defending for the first goal, bad slip up by Morrison for the second goal where he fell over the ball.

Smith did ok at right back, Hills looked very unfit but some nice touches at left back, Aljofree was at fault for the first goal not marking his man.

Sturrock played wide left for the first half ran around a lot but couldnt get the ball, Joyce and Ranger had no service at all, Macklin had the beating of the ugly left back but chose not to take him on despite his pace.

Pook looked ok in the middle, was playing at about his level TBH, Morris never kicked the ball that I can remember.

Nile Ranger has not been signed by us JPC, he is still on trial we know this because me and Hertha had a quick chat to Budgie before the game, he is going to be our surprise make us several million player, when we do sign him....yeah right Mr Byrne!

Ranger is for me the spitting image of Kanu, lean - probably about 11 stone, tall - about 6 foot 3, has a good jump on him, not bad control but poor distribution and couldnt judge his shooting or attacking because he had no service whatsoever all game and was chasing balls.

He might be one for the future but hes nowhere near first team standard yet.

Overall....A good laugh with Steve but the game was shit....next game please.

He does but he isn't all that. My understanding Salisbury made a few changes at half time and were probably stronger in the second half.

Interesting story for you: In the Wiltshire Shield final at the end of last season, Mick Harford was at the game as Chris Blackburn had been suggested as a potential signing for Luton Town. Blackburn came on to replace Adie Williams who went off injured (shock) and Blackburn himself was replaced later on in the game. When asked of his thoughts on Chris Blackburn, big Mick replied with "Tony Blackburn more like".

Chris Blackburn now plays for Aldershot. Luton start next season on -30points.

I cant say Salisbury looked stronger in the second half IMO. They were the better more eager side all through the game, they created more scoring chances in the first half.

Do they still have that lightning-quick left winger? Not sure of his name but he looked good to me last term.

If they do he wasnt very speedy! no on on their team looked particularly quick at all to me, Macklin was the only player on the pitch who even wanted to run at people yesterday.

I have read on some Saints forums that Nile Ranger has been a bit of a naughty boy which is why he left Southampton, similar sort of offences as Mr Dyer and Mr Wright-Phillips, they didnt state what exactly but apparently his "breach of club discipline" has something to do with him visiting the house of many bars for a period.

Hopefully he has put this behind him and has wiped the slate clean, a fresh start.

Dave Byrne seems to really rate the lad as he told me and Hertha yesterday he hopes he will cash on his little gem for a few million quid in the future........wishful thinking methinks!
